Membrane Degassing Process of Sweep Gas-vacuum Combination Type for Ammonia Removal (스윕 가스-진공 혼합식 탈기막 시스템을 활용한 암모니아 제거)

  • In this study, the membrane degassing process of the sweep gas - vacuum combination type was proposed for ammonia wastewater treatment. The effect of pH, initial ammonia concentration and scale-up on ammonia degassing performance was investigated. As a result, as the pH and the initial ammonia concentration increased, the degassing permeate flux was improved. On the other hand, the ammonia mass transfer coefficient increased as the initial ammonia reduced, which seems to be due to the driving force of the sweep gas-vacuum combination type membrane degassing system proposed in this study. In addition, 80 mg NH3/min of the ammonia degassing rate was achieved using a 6×28 inch size module. Better degassing performance is expected if consideration for maintaining vacuum pressure is involved in the scale-up design.

  • The vibration characteristics of a hammer press are important parameters for machine design and production control. In this study, a counterblow hammer press was mathematically modelled as a mass-spring-damper system in order to analyze its vibration characteristics. The forging efficiency was theoretically derived as a function of the mass ratio, momentum ratio, and the coefficient of restitution And the effects of the mass ratio, momentum ratio and the restitution coefficient on the forging efficiency were also investigated for two particular cases of the unit mass ratio and unit momentum ratio. Additionally, the vibration responses of the counterblow hammer press due to the ram colliding impact were analyzed, and the force transmitted to the foundation through the mounting unit was determined.

  • This study proposed a method of testing the stability when selecting gears to reduce the weight of a 3-DOF wrist mechanism for a pick-and-place 3-DOF parallel robot with an increased workspace by using an additional straight axis at its top. We performed SolidWorks® modeling- and ANSYS®-based structural analysis of a pinion gear, which is most vulnerable to the force from a 3-DOF wrist mechanism, to lighten the robot weight for performing various tasks. When the initial analysis results considerably differed from the theoretical values calculated in advance, we checked and identified the errors in the contact conditions or input values. Ultimately, it is believed that the methodology presented in this paper will help in mitigating errors during analysis and determine the accurate values for a lightweight 3-DOF wrist mechanism for a parallel robot with an expanded workspace.

  • This study was carried out in an L2 writing class using machine translation. The aim of this study was to explore what types of errors are identified the most frequently in the Korean-to-English machine translation output and what causes those errors. The participants were seven EFL university students who completed three writing tasks throughout the semester. The findings of data analysis indicated that the most common errors were seen in sentence structure and mechanics, and those errors in the translated texts were caused by the errors in the Korean source texts.

  • In an attempt to apply hybrid rocket to the RATO (Rocket-Assisted Take Off) system, combustion characteristics of the non-circular grain were figured out in this study. Having larger combustion area, it was reconfirmed that the non-circular grain has advantages over regression rate, characteristic velocity and chamber pressure in which all gave higher values. Experiments were performed to understand the effect of the non-circular grain geometry over time where local regression rates depending on grain location were analyzed. It was found that the regression rate of five distinct locations were different. Partial conclusion driven was that these differences are due to the heat transfer caused by dissimilar distances from the flame layer. Besides, as combustion duration increased, the fuel port became circular, and the regression rate converged to a single value over the whole grain.

  • Miniature Joule-Thomson refrigerators have been widely used for rapid cooling of infrared detectors, probes of cryosurgery, thermal cameras, missile homing head and guidance system, due to their special features of simple configuration, compact structure and rapid cool-down characteristics. The thermodynamic performance of J-T refrigerator highly depends on the hydraulic and heat transfer characteristics of the recuperative heat exchanger. The typical recuperative heat exchanger of the J-T refrigerator has the double helical tube and fin configuration. In this study, effectiveness-NTU approach was adopted to predict the thermodynamic behaviors of the heat exchanger for the J-T refrigerator. The thermodynamic properties from the REFPROP were used to account the real gas effects of the gas. The results show the effect of the operating conditions on the performance of the heat exchanger and refrigerator for the given heat exchanger. The influences of mass flow rate and the supply pressure on the effectiveness of heat exchanger and the ideal cooling capacity are discussed in details.

  • Optimal design of shell and tube heat exchanger system with the working fluids which may condense outside the tubes has been carried out under specified inlet and outlet conditions. Independent variables such as number of parallel series, tube diameter, distribution pitch, tube side pressure loss, baffle cut and shell side pressure loss as well as dependent variables such as shell diameter, number of tubes, number of serial series and number of baffles were all characterized according to the standard. Exhaustive search method was used to construct a computer program together with the calculation of heat transfer rate by LMTD method. stress analysis of maj or parts was made to examine their dimensions satisfying heat transfer and pressure loss requirements. Cost estimation based on the installation, operation and maintenance was also made, A few representative variables, heat transfer area, shell diameter and pressure loss, were used to express cost function, finally giving the optimal selection of all tentative solutions.

  • This paper presents an efficient method for the identification of motion error sources in NC machine tools by making use of the circular interpolation test, which is often used in estimating the motion accuracy of NC machine tools. Mathematical formulae are described for motion errors due to various kinds of error sources. Two identification formulae are proposed: one is based on the frequency analysis and the other is formulated with the weithted residual method. Motion error signal is classified into two patterns, mean errors(mean of CW and CCW test signals from mean errors). The sources of the mean errors are identified by using the frequency analysis technique and the sources of the deviation errors by the weighted residual formulaltion. A menu driven, user oriented, computer program is written to realize the full steps of the proposed identificationprocedure. Then, the identification method is applied to two NC machine tools.

  • 기계요약의 사실 불일치는 생성된 요약이 원문과 다른 사실 정보를 전달하는 현상이며, 특히 개체명이 잘못 사용되었을 때 기계요약의 신뢰성을 크게 훼손한다. 개체명의 수정을 위해서는 두 가지 작업을 수행해야한다. 먼저 요약 내 각 개체명이 올바르게 쓰였는지 판별을 해야하며, 이후 잘못된 개체명을 맞게 고치는 작업이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 두 가지 작업 모두 각 개체명을 문맥적으로 이해함으로써 해결할 수 있다고 가정하고, 이에 따라 두 작업에 대한 다중 작업 학습 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법을 통해 학습한 모델은 생성된 기계요약에 대한 후처리 교정을 수행할 수 있다. 제안 모델을 평가하기 위해 강제적으로 개체명을 훼손시킨 요약데이터와 기계 요약 데이터에 대해서 성능을 평가 하였으며, 다른 개체명 수정 모델과 비교하였다. 제안모델은 개체명 수준에서 92.9%의 교정 정확도를 달성했으며, KoBART 요약모델이 만든 기계요약의 사실 정확도 4.88% 포인트 향상시켰다.

  • A deformation behavior of commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is highly dependent on material and processing parameters, such as deformation temperature, deformation direction, and strain rate. This study aims to predict the multivariable and nonlinear tensile behavior of CP-Ti using machine learning based on three algorithms: artificial neural network (ANN), light gradient boosting machine (LGBM), and long short-term memory (LSTM). The predictivity for tensile behaviors at the cryogenic temperature was lower than those in the room temperature due to the larger data scattering in the train dataset used in the machine learning. Although LGBM showed the lowest value of root mean squared error, it was not the best strategy owing to the overfitting and step-function morphology different from the actual data. LSTM performed the best as it effectively learned the continuous characteristics of a flow curve as well as it spent the reduced time for machine learning, even without sufficient database and hyperparameter tuning.
