Study on deodorizing polyethylene film made from waste shell powder (패각 폐자원을 재활용한 악취제거기능을 갖는 폴리에틸렌 필름에 대한 연구)

  • Odor-removing polyethylene film utilizing waste shell powder (annual production: 250,000 ton) was prepared. Odor removal was designed to work by cation or cationic surfactant adsorbed onto the shell surface by ion-exchange: cationic surfactants (DTAB (n-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide), CTAB (n-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) and DHAB (n-dihexade-cyldimethylammonium bromide), and cations $Ce^{3+}$ , $Mg^{2+}$ and $Al^{3+}$) were used. Surface-modified waste shell powder was com-pounded with LDPE to produce 20 wt% shell masterbatch (MB), and the MB was again blended with LDPE to get shell-containing LDPE films with 3,5, 10 wt% of shell (width: 40 cm, thickness: 40 $\mu\textrm{m}$). Mechanical properties of the various shell-LDPE films maintained more than 80 % of that of pure LDPE film. Both shell film modified with cationic surfactant and one without shell surface-modification showed excellent odor-removing ability.

항만개발에 의한 조석조류 및 수질변화 예측을 위한 시뮬레이션 모델 연구

  • 항만개발 사업은 매립이나 준설과 같은 해안선과 해저지형을 변화시키는 공사가 이루어지며 이는 조석조류 현상의 변화를 유발하게 된다. 특히 해안지형이 복잡한 항만이나 하구에서는 변화정도가 크게 나타나며 방파제나 선박접안 시설과 같은 항내 구조물을 축조 할 경우에도 조석조류 변화가 야기된다. 조석조류 현상의 변화는 해양 수질과 생물상에 영 향을 줄뿐만 아니라 인접한 육지에 이르기까지 크다란 피해를 유발할 수가 있다. 창조시 해 수를 육지로 범람하게 하거나 퇴적이나 침식조건을 변화시킬 수도 있으며 오염물질이 외해 로 확산되는 과정을 방해하고 해양생물의 서식조건을 악화시켜 부근 해역의 어업에 피해를 유발할 수도 있다. 또한 해안 공사 과정에 해수로 유입되는 토사나 항만 이용시에 배출되는 폐수 등이 항내 수질과 생태계를 변화시킬 수 있다. 따라서 조석조류와 수질변화를 사전에 예측하고 이를 최소화하는 방안이 강구되어야 한다. 조석조류와 수질 변화를 사전에 예측하 는 방법으로 축소모형 실험과 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션이 사용된다. 축소모형 실험은 현장을 재현 하는데 많은 경비와 시간이 소모되며 예측에 한계가 있다. 반면에 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션은 대 상해역의 지형과 조류 그리고 수질특성에 적합하게 모델을 개발할 경우 예측력이 매우 높기 때문에 현재 가장 널리 이용되고 있다. 본 연구는 유한 요소법에 기초하여 미국 공병단 (United States Army Corps of Engineers)에서 개발한 TABS-2 모델을 이용하여 온산항에 서 시행되는 부두건설에 따른 조석조류 및 수질변화를 시뮬레이션하였다. 측정된 자료로 모 델 계수를 보정하고 검증하였으며 항내 매립과 준설이 이루어질 때 나타나는 조위와 조속변 화를 예측하였다. 매립과 준설공사시 유출되는 토사가 조석조류현상에 따라 이동 확산되는 범위와 농도분포를 예측하였다.ophobic components)은 75~80%, 친수성 물질(hydrophilic components)은 30~33%정도의 분포를 보였고, 전염소 및 전오존 공정을 거친 처리수에서는 각각 62.2-62.8%, 43.9~49.0% 및 50~ 55%, 40~57% 정도의 분포를 보였다. 그리고 웅집-침전을 거친 처리수에서는 그 분포가 77~82%, 24-48%였다. 전주리 공정을 통하여 소수성 물질(byoghobic components)의 분포가 감 소하는 것을 볼 때 전염소 및 전오존 처리가 용존유기물의 응집에는 오히려 역 효과를 나타내는 것으로 판단된다. 것으로 판단된다.여 황토 2g에 대하여 Hieltijes and Lijklema 방법에 의해 Adsorbed-p, Nonapatite inorganic-P(NAI-P), Apatite-p, Organic-P로 구분하여 분석하고, 총인(Total Phosphorus)을 Standard Methods에 따라 Persulfate digestion후 0.45 m membrane 여지 여과하여 여액에 대해 PO3-4-P의 농도를 Ascorbic Acid 법으로 측정한 결과, NAI-P가 가장 큰 비율을 차지하였고, 부원료로 첨가된 금속 양이온 중 Fe3-이온이 흡착에 기여하는 정도가 가장 큰 것으로 평가되었다.다당류 T-AS의 보체 활성화 기작은 classical과 alternative complement pathway의 양 경로를 통해 활성화 되었다. T-AS 분획은 mouse내의 특정 혈청단백을 증가시켰으며, 항체 생성능의 증가가 관찰되어 effect T 세포의 활성화가 나타나고 있음을 알 수 있었다. T-AS는 생체내 투여시에 대식세포의 탐식능이 증진되었으며, 대식세포 기능 저해제에 의한 대식세포의 기능 저해 현상이 회복되었다. 이와 같은 결과들로부터, T-AS의 항암 활성은 활성

Physicochemical Property and Antioxidant Activity of Wild Grape(Vitis coignetiea) Juice (머루 주스의 이화학적 특성 및 황산화 활성)

  • This study examines the physicochemical property and antioxidant activity of wild grape juice, and the result is as follows. Total anthocyanin and color intensity contents of wild grape juice were $17.0{\pm}0.1%$ and $33.9{\pm}1.4%$, respectively. The contents of total phenols and flavonoid in wild grape juice were $25.4{\pm}3.1$ mg/100g, $4.4{\pm}1.4$ mg/100 g, respectively. Total mineral content in wild grape juice was $28.5{\pm}8.4$ mg/l00 g and the potassium content($11.3{\pm}0.3$ mg/100 g) was the highest Electron donating abilities of wild grape juice at concentration of $1,000\;{\mu}L$/mL were $94.8{\pm}1.2%$ Reducing power of wild grape juice at concentration of $1,000\;{\mu}L$/mL was 1.134. The electron donating abilities and reducing power were increased significantly with the sample concentration in the reaction mixture increased The nitrite scavenging ability was dependent on pH of the reaction mixture and sample concentration. The nitrite scavenging ability of wild grape juice was $77.1{\pm}1.1%$ at concentration of $1,000\;{\mu}L$/mL under pH 1.2.

Sensitivity Analysis and Estimation of the Depth of Investigation in Small-Loop EM Surveys (소형루프 전자탐사의 감도분석 및 가탐심도 추정)

  • We have derived an analytical expression for the sensitivity of the frequency domain small-loop electromagnetic (EM) surveys over a two-layer earth in order to estimate the depth of investigation with an instrument having the source-receiver separation of about 2 m. We analyzed the sensitivities to the lower layer normalized by those to the upper half-space and estimated the depth of investigation from the sensitivity analyses and the mutual impedance ratio. The computational results showed that the in-phase components of the sensitivity to the lower layer dominates those to the upper layer when the thickness of the upper layer is less than 20 m, while the quadrature components are not sensitive to the lower layer over the entire frequency range. Hence we confirmed that the accurate measurement of the in-phase component is essential to increase the depth of investigation in the multi-frequency small-loop EM survey. When conductive basement of 10 ohm-m underlies the upper layer of 100 ohm-m, an accurate measurement of the in-phase components ensures the depth of the investigation more than 10 m even accounting a noise effect, from which we conclude that the small-loop EM survey is quite effective in imaging the conductive plume down to a considerable depth. On the other hand, in the presence of the resistive basement of 1,000 ohm-m, the depth of investigation may not exceed 5 m considering the instrumental accuracy, which implies that the application of the small-loop EM survey is not recommended over the resistive environment other than detecting the buried conductor.

Axial Pressing Method Using Pulse Magnetizing Field for the Preparation of Nd-Ee-B Sintered Magnets (펄스자장을 이용한 고이방화 Nd-Fe-B자석의 종축자장성형방법)

  • A new axial pressing method using pulse magnetizing field was studied to improve the remanence of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. In order to make near-net shape green compacts of butterfly, disk, or coin magnets, conventional axial-type pressing has been normally used. However, compared to the transverse-type pressing, it is not possible to obtain higher remanence by this method because the magnetic alignment of powder begins to deteriorate when the density of green compacts increases over a critical value. On the other hand, we found that an axial pressing under pulse magnetizing field was very effective to increase the degree of magnetic alignment of powder, yielding remanences even higher than those obtained by the transverse pressing. In this study, it was revealed that appropriate tapping density and how to apply pulse magnetic held were important to improve the grain alignment and thus remanence of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet.

Preparation of Nanostructures Using Layer-by-Layer Assembly and Applications (층상자기조립법을 이용한 나노구조체의 제조와 응용)

  • We introduce a novel and versatile approach for preparing self-assembled nanoporous multilayered films with antireflective properties. Protonated polystyrene-block-poly (4-vinylpyrine) (PS-b-P4VP) and anionic polystyrene-block-poly (acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA) block copolymer micelles (BCM) were used as building blocks for the layer-by-layer assembly of BCM multilayer films. BCM film growth is governed by electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding interactions between the oppositely BCMs. Both film porosity and film thickness are dependent upon the charge density of the micelles, with the porosity of the film controlled by the solution pH and the molecular weight (Mw) of the constituents. PS7K-b-P4VP28K/PS2K-b-PAA8K films prepared at pH 4 (for PS7K-b-P4VP28K) and pH 6 (for PS2K-b-PAA8K) are highly nanoporous and antireflective. In contrast, PS7K-b-P4VP28K/PS2K-b-PAA8K films assembled at pH 4/4 show a relatively dense surface morphology due to the decreased charge density of PS2K-b-PAA8K. Films formed from BCMs with increased PS block and decreased hydrophilic block (P4VP or PAA) size (e.g., PS36K-b-P4VP12K/PS16K-b-PAA4K at pH 4/4) were also nanoporous. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the nanostructured electrochemical sensors based on patterning methods show the electrochemical activities. Anionic poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) layers were selectively and uniformly deposited onto the catalase (CAT)-coated surface using the micro-contact printing method. The pH-induced charge reversal of catalase can provide the selective deposition of consecutive PE multilayers onto patterned PSS layers by causing the electrostatic repulsion between next PE layer and catalase. Based on this patterning method, the hybrid patterned multilayers composed of platinum nanoparticles (PtNP) and catalase were prepared and then their electrochemical properties were investigated from sensing $H_2O_2$ and NO gas. Target Proteins Involved in Aging Mechanism as an Aging Molecular Marker (노화 분자마커로서 노화기전에 관여하는 타켓 단백질)

  • All cells composing of our body undergo their destiny such as proliferation, differentiation, necrosis, apoptosis and senescence depending on their circumstance with time. The errors occurring in these processes develop several aberrations in phenotypes including cancer, inflammation, aging and diseases. New strategy and approach are required to screen anti-aging compounds derived from natural products. Therefore, here we explain the target proteins to play a key role in aging mechanism. In the first place, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in metastasis, chronic inflammation and skin aging as an aging marker. In particular, histone deacetylases (HDACs) give a great attention to aging researchers who try to extend the life span of animal model. In addition, we describe the signaling pathway related to senescence which p53, IGF-1 and SIRT1 play an important role in. Furthermore, autophagy is involved in the signaling pathway associated with aging. Several new compounds modulating the signaling pathway of senescence are introduced in this review. Here, we try to provide a new insight in the molecular basis for the aging mechanism and development of aging marker. In addition, the compounds introduced here could be available for pharmaceutical applications for the prevention and the treatment of diseases related to aging.

Mineralogical Characteristics and Designation of Key Beds for the Effective Surveys of the Jeonnam Pyrophyllite Deposits (전남일원 납석광상의 광물학적 특성과 효과적 탐사를 위한 Key Beds의 선정)

  • Ores of the Jeonnam pyrophyllite province mainly consist of not only pyrophyllite but also kaolinite, and they usually contain minor amounts of muscovite and quartz. We usually call them as porcelaneous stones which usually show lower grade characteristics in the viewpoint of Korean nonmetallic industries. Mineralogical studies for the ores and their intimate formations revealed that another kind of clay minerals could have been produced from the volcanic sediments with similar ages and compositions. Corundum is commoner than the diaspore in the pyrophyllite deposits, and so diaspore can be regarded as one of temporary minerals from which corundum would be finally formed. Kaolinite deposits contain neither diaspore nor corundum, but alunites produced by an advanced argillic alteration are often observed in the upper portions of the kaolin ores. The lowest formation interbedded with pyrophyllite and/or kaolinite ores usually contain purple tuff bed on the uppermost part, and in ascending order, siliceous formation, fine ash tuff and lapillistone are found in the study areas. As ages are becoming younger, amounts of pyrophyllite and kaolinite are radically decreased, or disappeared completely. On the other hand, content of muscovite is slightly increased, and those of plagioclase feldspars and quartz are found to have been preserved from the original rocks during alteration process. Most of ore bodies show rather well bedded formations which are easily discernable in the outcrops, but more effective discremination is desirable where rather massive ores exist. Siliceous beds and purple tuff ones on the upper part of ore bodies would be useful as marker horizons or key beds which have distinct lithologies and extensions.

Scientific Analysis and Conservation Treatment of the Kettle Excavated from Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju (경주(慶州) 황남동(皇南洞) 출토(出土) 철부(鐵釜)의 보존처리(保存處理) 및 과학적분석(科學的分析))

  • As the kettle excavated from a site in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju was presumed to have been used as a melting crucible in a glass production workplace, we decided to prove its usage by scientific analysis. First, we performed conservation treatment to find the original status of the kettle, and then SEM-EDS and XRD analysis of the five corrosions created on the surface of the kettle. The fragment of the spout, which played a crucial role for the kettle to be considered as a melting crucible, was discovered during the conservation treatment. So the mouth rim of the kettle was restored to perfection. When we observed the microstructure of the metal sample, it was proved to be cast iron gradually cooled without heat treatment. In the corrosion products, the main components were Fe and O and other components such as P, Si, Ca, and S were found. The main compounds were quartz, vivianite, goetheite, akaganite, lepidocrocite, hematite, etc. Although these components were used as raw materials for making glass, these were found not in the melting status but mere raw materials. This can be an evidence to show these site where the kettle was excavated had been a glass production workplace. However, it is not sure that the kettle was used as a melting crucible. Moreover, if we consider the organic mold and sand clay accumulated in the well site when the kettle was excavated at first, we can see this as a formative factor of the corrosions of the kettle. Therefore, we concluded that the kettle is a typical cast iron and was not used as a melting crucible of glass.

  • As the internal combustion engine vehicles of high fuel efficiency and low emission are demanded, it becomes important to procure technologies for improving low-temperature performance of automotive catalyst systems. In this study, we showed that the combustion rate of diesel particulate matter is greatly enhanced at low temperature by applying fuel-borne catalyst and perovskite catalyst concurrently. It was tried to examine the correlation between elemental composition of perovskite catalyst and combustion activity of mixed catalyst system. To achieve this goal, we applied temperature-programmed oxidation technique in testing the combustion behavior of perovskite-mixed particulate matter bed which contained the element of fuel-borne catalyst or not. We tried to explain the synergetic action of two catalyst components by comparing the trends of concentrations of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide in temperature-programmed oxidation results.
