  • In recent research on the fuzzy controller, the crisp type fuzzy controller model, in which the consequent part of the fuzzy control rules are crisp real numbers instead of fuzzy sets, due to its simplicity in calculation, has been widely used in various applications. In this paper we try to analyze the dynamical behavior of the crisp type fuzzy controller with both inference methods of min-max compositional rule and product-sum inference. The analysis reveals that a crisp type fuzzy controller behaves approximately like a PD controller.

  • In this paper, it is shown how the performance of the monopulse algorithm in the presence of an additive noise can be obtained analytically. In the previous study, analytic performance analysis based on the first-order Taylor series and the second-order Taylor series has been conducted. By adopting the third-order Taylor series, it is shown that the analytic performance based on the third-order Taylor series can be made closer to the performance of the original monopulse algorithm than the analytic performance based on the first-order Taylor series and the second-order Taylor series. The analytic MSE based on the third-order Taylor approximation reduces the analytic MSE error based on the second-order Taylor approximation by 89.5%. It also shows faster results in all cases than the Monte Carlo-based MSE. Through this study, it is possible to explicitly analyze the angle estimation ability of monopulse radar in an environment where noise jamming is applied.

  • The integral equations used in electromagnetic fields theory can be used for scattering problems. We can obtain various characteristics of scatterer. Ie, power pattern, scattered field, by finding current distribution on the scatterer. In this paper, current distribution on polygonal cylinder is obtained using integral equations in 2 dimension. For numerical aualysis, the moment method is used with pulse function as a basis function and integral equation is used with extrapolation method, which saves cpu time.

  • The solution of anisotropic plate via the classical methods is limited to relatively load and boundary conditions. If these conditions are more complex, the analysis becomes increasingly tedious and even impossible. For many plate problems of considerable practical interest, analytic solutions to the governing differential equations cannot be found. Among the numerical techniques presently available, the finite difference method and the finite element method are powerful numerical methods. The objective of this paper is to compare with each numerical methods for the buckling load and modes of anisotropic composite laminated plates considering shear deformation. In applying numerical methods to solve differential equations of anisotropic plates, this study uses the finite difference method and the finite element method. In determining the eigenvalue by Finite Difference Method, this paper represent good convergence compared with Finite Element Method. Several numerical examples and buckling modes show the effectiveness of various numerical methods and they will give a guides in deciding minimum buckling load and various mode shapes.

  • In this paper, wave resistance for a submerged body is calculated by a higher order panel method. The Neumann-Kelvin problem is solved by the source or normal dipole distribution method. The body surface is represented by a bicubic B-spline and the singularity strengths are approximated by a bilinear form. The results calculated by the higher order panel method are compared with those by the lowest order panel method developed by Hess & Smith. The convergence rate of the higher order panel method is much better than the lowest order panel method. But the wave resistance calculated by the higher order panel method still shows discrepancy with an analytic solution at low Froude number like that by the lowest order panel method.

  • Probabilistic nonlinear first ply failure loads of flat composite panels and nonlinear buckling loads of curved composite panels with cutouts are estimated to provide the more reliable main load carrying structure in the renewable energy industry and offshore structures. The response surface method approximates limit state surface to a second order polynomial form of random variables with the results of deterministic finite element analyses at given sampling design points. Furthermore, the iterative linear interpolation scheme is used to obtain a more accurate approximation of the limit state surface near the most probable failure point (MPFP). The advanced first order second moment method and the Monte Carlo method are performed on an approximated limit state surface to evaluate the probability of failure. Finally, the sensitivity of the reliability index with respect to transformed random variables is investigated to figure out the main random variables that have an effect on failures.

  • In this paper, radar cross section (RCS) analysis program, RACSAN has been developed to predict RCS of complex structures. RACSAN is based on the high frequency range analysis method of Kirchhoff approximation in physical optics (PO). This program can present RCS including multi-bounce effect in complex structures by combination of geometric optics (GO) and PO method. GO method has a concern in the evaluation of the effective area, and PO method is involved in the calculation of RCS for the final effective area that is evaluated by GO method. Comparisons of the predicted results and analytical solutions showed that the developed program could be an effective tool for predicting RCS in complex structures.

  • This study aims to find the optimal skirt dimensions for a composite pressure vessel with a separated dome part. The size optimization for the skirt structure of the composite pressure vessel was conducted using a sub-problem approximation method and batch processing codes programmed using ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL). The thickness and length of the skirt part were selected as design variables for the optimum analysis. The objective function and constraints were chosen as the weight and the displacement of the skirt part, respectively. The numerical results showed that the weight of the skirt of a composite pressure vessel with a separated dome part could be reduced by a maximum of 4.38% through size optimization analysis of the skirt structure.
