  • In computing the optical flow, Horn and Schunck's method which is a representative algorithm is based on differentiation. Therefore it is difficult to estimate the velocity for a large displacement by this algorithm. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating nonuniform motion from sequential images which is based on integral brightness constancy constraints. The equations which transform a source image to a target image are expressed as a function of the displacement field. If marginal effects can be neglected, the form of the transformation integral transform or orthogonal expansion can be determined from the expansion coefficients of the two images. The apparent displacement field is then computed iteratively by a projection method which utilities the functional derivatives of the linearized moment equations. We demonstrate that the performance of the orthogonal function transform on the data set of large motion.

  • For a signal such as speech showing piece-wise linear shape in a very short time period, a nonuniform sampling method based on the inflection point detection (IPD) is proposed to reduce data rate. The method exploits the geometrical characteristics of signal further than the existing local maxima/minima detection (MMD) based sampling method. As results, the reconstructed signal by the interpolation of the IPD based sampled data resembles the original speech more. Computer simulation shows that the proposed IPD based method produces about 9~23 dB improvement over the existing MMD method. To show the usefulness of the IPD technique, it is applied to speech coding, and compared to the continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSD). The nonuniformly sampled data is binary coded with one bit flag set "1". Noninflection samples are not sent, but only flag bits set 0 are sent. The method shows 0.3 ~ 9 dB SNR and 0.5 ~ 1.3 mean opinion score (MOS) improvements over the CVSD.

  • A panorama image is constructed by merging several overlapped images to a big one. There are two kinds of methods, feature based and direct method, in the construction. Feature based one has a merit of processing speed faster than direct one. But, it is difficult to be implemented under slower processing environments such as mobile device. This paper proposed high speed construction method of a panorama image. The algorithm extremely improved matching speed by reducing the number of matching parameters using scene shot guider, and additionally adapted local matching technique to reduce matching error caused by the fewer matching parameters. In the experiments, it was shown that the proposed method required about 0.078 second in processing time, about 17 times shorter than the feature based one, for 24-bit color images of $320{\times}240$ size.

  • The objectives of this study are to analyse the thermal response behavior occurring in the charring ablative material more realistically by considering ablation and char phenomena occurring in several material layers, and to increase the reliability of thermal analysis by being able to get stable solutions through using the finite analytic method. A program has been developed to predict the temperature distribution, ablation thickness, char thickness, ablation velocity and char velocity by solving non-linear one-dimensional heat conduction equation. Results of calculation were compared with results of published papers. From this compariosn this program was proved to be a very good tool for thermal design and analysis of charring ablative materials used in the rocket propulsion system.

  • The displacement field (Optical flow) has been calculated by bottom-up approaches based on local processing. In contrast with them, in this paper, a top-down approach based on expanding in turn from the lowest order mode the whole motion in an image pair of sequential images is proposed. The intensity of medical images usually represents a quantity which is conserved during the motion. Hence sequential images are ideally related by a coordinate transformation. The displacement field can be determined from the generalized moments of the two images. The equations which transform arbitrary generalized moments from a source image to a target image are expressed as a function of the displacement field. The appareent displacement field is then computed iteratively by a projection method which utilizes the functional derivatives of the linearized moment equations. This method is demonstrated using a pair of sequential heart images. For comparative evaluation, we applied Horn and Schunck's method, a standard multigrid method, and our proposed algorithm to sequential image.

  • Purpose: The deformation characteristics induced by non-destructive stresses using piezoelectric transducer(PZT) were analyzed for 3-unit fixed partial dentures manufactured PFM, Everest(CAD/CAM) and Zirkonzahn(copy milling, MAD/MAM) by electron speckle pattern interferometery(ESPI). Methods: The ESPI analysis after loading the restoration with PZT by applying electric voltage of 900mV at the points of 10 mm above the base of the prostheses. Results: PFM and All-Ceramic Everest prostheses showed about 0.1 ${\mu}m$ while that of All- Ceramic Zirkonzahn prostheses showed 0.085 ${\mu}m$, demonstrating that Zirkonzahn displaced less. For PFM and All-Ceramic Zirkonzahn prostheses, the displacements were large at just below the loading point, while generalize displacement was shown over the loading point and weak connector areas for All-Ceramic Everest prostheses. Conclusion: We could find that the deformation characteristics induced by non-destructive stresses using PZT analyzed by ESPI were similar to the fracture strengths evaluated using universal testing machine.

  • The LWR (Locally Weighted Regression) model, which is traditionally a lazy learning model, is designed to obtain the solution of the prediction according to the input variable, the query point, and it is a kind of the regression equation in the short interval obtained as a result of the learning that gives a higher weight value closer to the query point. We study on an incremental ensemble learning approach for LWR, a form of lazy learning and memory-based learning. The proposed incremental ensemble learning method of LWR is to sequentially generate and integrate LWR models over time using a genetic algorithm to obtain a solution of a specific query point. The weaknesses of existing LWR models are that multiple LWR models can be generated based on the indicator function and data sample selection, and the quality of the predictions can also vary depending on this model. However, no research has been conducted to solve the problem of selection or combination of multiple LWR models. In this study, after generating the initial LWR model according to the indicator function and the sample data set, we iterate evolution learning process to obtain the proper indicator function and assess the LWR models applied to the other sample data sets to overcome the data set bias. We adopt Eager learning method to generate and store LWR model gradually when data is generated for all sections. In order to obtain a prediction solution at a specific point in time, an LWR model is generated based on newly generated data within a predetermined interval and then combined with existing LWR models in a section using a genetic algorithm. The proposed method shows better results than the method of selecting multiple LWR models using the simple average method. The results of this study are compared with the predicted results using multiple regression analysis by applying the real data such as the amount of traffic per hour in a specific area and hourly sales of a resting place of the highway, etc.

  • The boundary has been one of the most important information in radiographic images and the degrees of difficulty involved varies greatly with the quality of the picture. These Buantifications are the means to diagnoses. The purpose of this paper is to quantify intensity variation and the threshold decision which is based on statistical principles and is developed to detect limits in liver scintigrams the entire picture is devide4 into 64 small regions. The kurtosis and variances for each smal region are used as indications to select the histograms the thresholds are computed according to the method o(maximum likelihood which minimizes the probability o( misclassification. Therefore Ive have demonstrated the applicability of the boundary detection and proved good agreement with human recognition, and we can use it for the diagnosis data of liver disease.

  • Multi-channel images of 11-MUA(11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid) and 11-MUOH(11-Mercaptoundecanol) self-assembled monolayers were obtained by using two-dimensional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption. The patterning process was simplified by exploiting direct photo-oxidation of thiol bonding (photolysis) instead of conventional photolithography. Sharper images were resolved by using a white light source in combination with a narrow bandpass filter in the visible region, minimizing the diffraction patterns on the images. The line profile calibration of the image contrast caused by different resonance conditions at each point on the sensor surface (at a fixed incident angle) enables us to discriminate the monolayer thickness in nanometer scale. Furthermore, there is no signal degradation such as photo bleaching or quenching, which are common in the detection methods based on fluorescence.
