Comparison of Yield and Forage Quality of Silage Corns at Different Planting Dates (파종시기에 따른 국내 육성 사일리지용 옥수수의 수량 및 사료가치의 품종간 비교)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate yield and forage quality of domestic silage corn hybrids at different planting dates. Days to silking of Suwon169 and P3394 were 62 days, respectively, the shortest among corn hybrids and Gangdaok was the longest. Cheonganok was more resistant to lodging than other hybrids. Kwangpyeongok and Gangdaok were more excellent to stay-green than other hybrids. Ear ratios to total dry matter of other domestic hybrids except Gangdaok were similar with those of DK697 and P3394. Ear ratios to total dry matter were similar in planting dates, May 3 and May 21 with 46% and 45% but June 11, low with 41%. Fresh yield of Gangdaok was the highest of all hybrids and other hybrids except Gangdaok were similar. Dry matter (DM) yields of domestic hybrids except Cheonganok were similar to those of DK697 and P3394. Total digestible nutrients (TDN) yields of domestic hybrids were no significant difference compared with those of DK697 and P3394. Fresh yield, DM yield and TDN yield of all hybrids were similar in planting dates, May 3 and May 21 but those of all hybrids were reduced in planting date, June 11 compared with May 3 and May 21. All hybrids were no significant difference in acid detergent fiber (ADF) which had values ranging from $44.2{\sim}46.2%$. All hybrids were no significant difference in neutral detergent fiber (NDF) which had values ranging from $58.1{\sim}59.9%$. There were no significant differences in ADF and NDF according to planting dates. Relative feed value (RFV) of P3394 was the lowest of all hybrids. Other hybrids except P3394 had values ranging from $84.1{\sim}85.0$ and was no significant difference in RFV. It is concluded that domestic hybrids tested in this study have high forage quality as well as high production similar to those of imported corn hybrids.

  • Seven Korean milled rice samples (5 Japonica, 1 Indica, 1 Commercial) were used to compare the quality of brewing adjunct with that of U.S. IR36(Indica) sample was classified as having higher amylose and protein content and lower starch content than Japonica samples. IR36 sample did not differ from Japonica samples in wort color, wort viscosity, soluble protein, percent extract and sugar composition when it was used as brewing adjunct. Korean milled rice samples did not differ from U.S. sample in soluble protein, wort pH, wort viscosity, but lower in percent extract.

Physicochemical Characteristics and Cookie Potentialities of Korean Wheat Cultivars (국내산 밀의 품종별 이화학적 특성과 쿠키 제조 적성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the differences on physicochemical properties and cookie potentialities of Korean wheat cultivars. The protein contents of the wheat cultivars ranged from 8.80$\pm$0.76% to 11.19$\pm$0.25%. Korean wheat cultivars had sedimentation values of 19.82 mL to 35.54 mL. Their peak viscosity range measured by Amylograph was from 60 BU to 640 BU. Diameter of cookies for soft wheat was 8.28 cm and Korean wheat cultivars ranged from 7.63 cm to 8.55 cm. Olgeunmil resulted in a higher cookie diameter and top grain score than the soft wheat. Protein content had significantly negative correlations with the coefficient of cookie diameter(r=-0.838$^*$) and with the top grain score(r=-0.751$^*$). There was a significant correlation between protein content and sedimentation value(r=0.762$^*$).

The Selection of Domestically Bred Cultivars for Spray-type Chrysanthemum Transformation (스프레이 국화 형질전환을 위한 국내 육성 품종 선발)

  • To select suitable spray chrysanthemum cultivars for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, thirty-nine (39) spray cultivars bred in the National Institutes of Korea and a standard cultivar Jinba from Japan were collected and tested for regeneration rate and Agrobacterium infection assays. MS medium with $0.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ IAA and $1.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BAP was used for shoot regeneration from leaf disks and internodes. The shoot regeneration rate in leaf disks was the highest in cultivar BRM, followed by cultivars VS, WW and YTM. The cultivar JB (Jinba) used as a transformation material in previous reports ranked similarly to cultivars PK and SPP. In shoot regeneration from internodes, the shoot regeneration rate was the highest for cultivar PA, followed by cultivar WW. The infection rate of leaves and internodes of 40 chrysanthemum cultivars with agrobacterium was investigated. Cultivars WPP, YNW, VS, PP, WW, FA, PA and YMN showed the highest infection levels in leaves, whereas cultivars WPP, PA, PK and YNW had the highest infection levels in internodes. Considering all of these results, cultivars VS and WW were the most appropriate for gene transformation of chrysanthemum using leaves, while cultivar PA was for internodes.

  • It was conducted to select the resistant potato cultivars to common scab, to replace the existing susceptible cv Dejima in Jeju island conditions both 1997 and 2001. Among cultivars, cvs Jemchip, Alpa, Atlantic and Jopung were more resistant than others in the field with both low and high incidence of the disease. Also among the existing cultivars grown in Korea, cvs Superior, Jopung and Chubaek were resistant, expecially in terms of production of marketable potatoes.

농업기술 - 복숭아 '미백도' 변이종 선발 육종

  • 국내에 재배되는 복숭아의 품종은 다양하다. 경기도 이전지역에서만 보면, 7월 중순부터 조생종인 '용궁백도', '미백조생'이 출하되기 시작하여 본격적으로 8월 중순에 중생종인 '미백도', 8월 하순부터 만생종인 '천중도백도', 9월 초 중순부터 극만생종인 '장호원황도'가 수확된다. 그러나 본격적 복숭아 수확기인 8월 중순부터 미백도~천중도백도 사이의 단경기를 극복할 수 있는 우량품종이 절실히 요구됐다. 또한 대부분의 복숭아 품종들이 보구력이 약해서 수확, 운반 및 저장에 많은 어려움을 느끼고 있었다. 이에 따라 이재권씨는 미백도 나무에서 접목변이지로 미백도와 다른 모양의 복숭아를 발견하고 기술개발에 참여하게 되었다.

신품종소개 - 토마토황화잎말림바이러스(TYLCV) 저항성 품종 '티와이썬'

  • 최근 국내에 발생해 큰 문제를 일으키는 토마토황화잎말림바이러스(TYLCV)는 매개충인 담배가루이와 함께 토마토의 안정생산을 위협하는 치명적인 바이러스다. 병이 발생하면 악제나 다른 방법으로 방제가 어려우므로 내병성 풍종, 특히 TYLCV 저항성 유전자 Ty-1,2,3(부분우성)의 한 개체 내 집적을 통해 저항성을 높인 품종의 육성이 시급하다. 이런 목적으로 국립원예특작과학원에서는 TYLCV에 저항성 품종인 '티와이썬'을 개발하였다.

  • 2000~2010년 사이에 국내에 출시된 황색과육 참다래 품종들은 품질 면에서는 수입산과 대등한 수준에 이르고 있다. 하지만 꽃의 유전적인 특징으로 한 개의 꽃송이의 중심 꽃 양 측면에 작은 곁꽃이 2~6개 맺히는 특징을 가지고 있다. 때문에 생산농가는 꽃피기 전에 생산성을 떨어뜨리는 이들 작은 꽃봉오리를 제거하는 작업에 많은 시간과 노력을 투여하고 있다. 최근에 육성된 참다래 품종 가운데 생산 노동력을 좀 더 줄일 수 있는 '골드원'에 대해 소개한다.

Quality Characteristics of Rice Varieties Suitable for Sushi (초밥에 적합한 품종의 품질특성)

  • This study was carried out to find optimal rice varieties and selection index for sushi. The suitability tests about appearance and palatability were conducted by 31 professional sushi chefs and the physicochemical and pasting properties of the selected 7 rice varieties (Koshihikari, Dami, Deuraechan, Boramchan, Juanbyeo, Sindongjin and Hopum) of milled and cooked rice were evaluated. According to the adaptability for sushi shape and taste of rice, Hopum and Sindongjin showed more suitable appearance and taste than others. Also, they showed remarkable pasting properties similar to Koshihikari which is widely known as a suitable for sushi. In the relationship between suitability and pasting properties for sushi, peak viscosity and breakdown viscosity showed highly positive correlation, and setback viscosity showed negative correlation. These results suggest that pasting properties can be applied to select the suitable varieties for sushi.
