This article investigates and reviews the general current status of cooperative cataloging systems for books in Korea, including UNICAT of KERIS, KOLIS-NET of The National Library of Korea, UNION DB of KISTI, and analyzes some particular problems using specific examples from those systems.

This study was to build a collaborative digital library model between KSTI and JST for sharing science and technology information created in Korea and Japan. For this study, digital library framework, it's main concepts and widely-used digital library technologies were investigated. And also, best practices of collaborative digital library were surveyed to characterize collaborative digital library trends. Collaborative Sci-Tech digital library model proposed in this study can be applied in real environment and expanded into other institutions and/or subject areas.

도서관에 대한 올바른 이용과 이해는 초등학교에서부터 출발해야 한다. 도서관 이용 교육은 국가 수준의 교육과정에서 인정받는 것이 중요할 뿐만 아니라 정규 교과서에 반영하여 교과 수업 시간에 지도할 수 있도록 하여야 한다. 일본은 문부과학성에서 고시한 ‘학습지도요령’에 의거 국어 교과서에 다각적인 도서관 이용 교육을 실시하고 있다. 본 연구는 일본의 소학교 국어 교과서에 반영된 도서관 이용 교육을 분석하여 앞으로 우리 나라 초등학교 국어 교과서 개발에 참고 자료가 되고자 한다.

This paper outlines recent conditions after the collapse of former Soviet Union and presents activities in eight major information-related organizations including International Center for Scientific and Technical Information, Russian State Central Scientific Medical Library. Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology, All-Russian Institute for Science and Technical Information, Natural Sciences Library of Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific and Technical Information Center of Russia, Russian State Library and All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute of State Patent Examination. All of these organizations face economic difficulties brought about by financial crisis and inflation as well as shortage of the state budget. In addition, the domestic information processing technology using computers and computer networks is generally inferior to that of developed western countries due to lack of growth of information infrastructure in Russia.

All publications of a country is a cultural heritage with the spirit of humanity, each National Library has to collect and preserve all publications produced in each country. Acquisition activity(Collection development) of each National Library is supported by a powerful legal deposit system. Therefore, this study has analyzed the legal deposit systems of the world countries, especially focussed whether or not the compensation for legal deposit, whether or not any sanction against not-depositing, Fine collection procedures against not-depositing, and the specific process for legal deposit. Based on these investigations, this study was to seek ways to contribute the legal deposit rates of National Library. It has proposed the following suggestions; Performing of legal deposit duty by itself, developing the system for supporting the legal deposit, establishing newly of legal deposit department, and improving the compensation for the legal depositor.

1950년대까지 DDC는 전체 분류표 가운데 10분의 1이 종교였고 종교가운데에서도 기독교가 10분의 9를 차지하였다. 더욱이 DDC 편집자들은 과학기술발전에 보조를 맞추지 못했고 이러한 태만으로 하여 이들 과학기술 분야을 국제십진분류법에 넘겨주게 되었다. (이 국제십진분류법에서는 과학기술분야가 전체의 4/5를 차지하는데 반하여 DDC는 겨우 2/10를 차지한다.) DDC가 미국 이외의 국가, 종교, 실습, 언어에 이용되는 것을 Dewey 자신이나 그의 초기계승자들이 추구한 것은 아니다.

The standard of library is to provide the mission and goals, user services, and operations management of the library. Also, it is can be used as a tool that evaluate a various services and programs of the library. However, library standard of domestic does not reflect a realistic situation of special libraries, therefore it should be revised immediately. In this study, I analyzed the international trend of special library standards in major countries, and compared the legal and recommended standards, and evaluation indicators in Korea. As a result, revised directions of new standard have been proposed. Proposed directions will contribute in revising the special library standard of Korea.

With the perspective of information management, on-going monitoring of the specified service function is one of the major activities and even critical process. The research consisted of three empirical research questions such as, the current usage and overall user-satisfaction, the quality of the R&D information content and the service, and the problems which have been observed by the actual user group of National Digital Science Library (NDSL). The results of the investigation provided several guidelines that can be utilized for the improvements of the R&D information user service as well as some recommendations for overall optimal administration.

In this paper, typical types of digital format were defined and digital format selection guidelines of US's NISO(National Information Standards Organization) and LC(Library of Congress) and Denmark's The State and University Library and the Royal Library were introduced. Five sustainability factors and quality and functionality factors were raised through analysing the three sample guidelines. The sustainability factors include descriptive, independency, consistency, widely adopted, and quality. Thus, digital format selection strategies for a library were developed.
