  • Twin-fluid atomization has been widely used in combustors and process industries because of its high performance and simple structure. Flow visualization and pressure measurements were conducted to investigate the effects of gas flow in twin-fluid atomization. Schlieren photographs showed that changes in atomizing gas pressure, altered the wave patterns, and the lengths of both recitrculating toroid (impinging stangnation point) nad supersonic flow region in the jet. A longer supersonic wave pattern like net-shape wqas observed as atomizing gas pressure increased. The disintegration phenomenon of liquid delivery tube. The variation of spray angles with gas pressures were obtained by visualization using laser sheet beam. Suction pressuresat the nozzle orifice exit and recirculating region are shown to be used to estimate the stable atomization condition of a twin-fluid atomizer.

  • The effect of molar substitution (MS, 0.030-0.118) on the dynamic rheological properties of hydroxypropylated rice starch pastes (5%, w/w) was investigated by small-deformation oscillatory measurements during aging. The magnitudes of storage (G#) and loss (G") moduli measured at $4^{\circ}C$ before aging increased with an increase in MS in the range of 0.030-0.118, while those of tan ${\delta}$ (the ratio of G"/G#) decreased. The G# values of hydroxypropylated rice starches, as a function of aging time (10 hr) at $4^{\circ}C$, increased rapidly at the initial stage, and then reached a plateau region at shorter aging times. However, for the native starch, the plateau values were not observed for G# after a long aging time. Increasing the MS resulted in a decrease in plateau values. The rate constant (K) for structure development during aging was described by first-order kinetics. The K values of hydroxypropylated rice starches at 0.086 and 0.118 MS were much lower than the K value at 0.030 MS.

  • Two dimensional numerical model of high-order accuracy is developed to analyze complex flow including transition flow, discontinuous flow, and wave propagation to dry bed emerging at natural river flow. The bed slope term of two dimensional shallow water equation consisting of integral conservation law is treated efficiently by applying quasi-steady wave propagation scheme. In order to apply Finite Volume Method using Fractional Step Method, MUSCL scheme is applied based on HLL Riemann solver, which is second-order accurate in time and space. The TVD method is applied to prevent numerical oscillations in the second-order accurate scheme. The developed model is verified by comparing observed data of two dimenstional levee breach experiment and dam breach experiment containing structure at lower section of channel. Also effect of the source term is verified by applying to dam breach experiment considering the adverse slope channel.

  • This paper has realized a control system of a vibrator using PM excited Transverse Flux Linear Motor(TFLM). Proposed vibrator can supply a vibration force up to 700[N] at rated current, wide operation range of vibration displacement and high frequency for a tested structure. Also, volume of a vibrator system can be decreased because of a high trust force rato(a thrust force per weight=N/Kg). A proposed vibrator instead of a hydraulic vibrator can improve efficiency and have may advantages of maintenance and management. A desired value command is a vibration frequency and displacement in a controller for a vibrator system and a controlled values we a instant position and velocity of a mover Output value of the controller is phase current controlled by PWM converter. In this research, Dynamic simulation has been executed for analysis of a control algorithm and dvnauuc characteristics and is compared with experimental result.

  • Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are smart materials. The unique characteristics of SMAs enable the production of large force and displacement. Hence, SMAs can be used in many applications such as in actuators and active structural acoustic controllers; the SMAs can also be used for dynamic tuning and shape control. A SMA torque tube actuator consisting of SMA tubes and superelastic springs is proposed, and the behaviors of the actuator are investigated. From the results of heat transfer analysis, it is proved that the SMA torque tube actuator with both resistive heating of SMA itself and a separate conventional heating rod in the tube core has good performance. The behavior of an actuator system was analyzed by performing a contact analysis, and the twisting motion was noticed when checking the actuation. 3D SMA nonlinear constitutive equations were formulated numerically and implemented by performing a nonlinear analysis by using Abaqus UMAT.

  • Recently, big data is rapidly emerging as a core technology in the 4th industrial revolution. Further, the utilization and the demand of drones are continuously increasing with the development of the 4th industrial revolution. However, as the drones usage increases, the risk of drones falling increases. Drones always have a risk of being able to fall easily even with small problems due to its simple structure. In this paper, in order to predict the risk of drone fall and to prevent the fall, ESC (Electronic Speed Control) is attached integrally with the drone's driving motor and the acceleration sensor is stored to collect the vibration data in real time. By processing and monitoring the data in real time and analyzing the data through big data obtained in such a situation using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm, we proposed a prediction system that minimizes the risk of drone fall by analyzing big data collected from drones.

  • The prediction of combustion instability is important to avoid an obvious threat to the structural safety and the motor performance because it affects the apparent response function of the propellant, the burning rate, and a mean flow Mach number at the local surface. The combustion instability occurs in case acoustic waves were coupled with the combustion/flow dynamic frequency. In this paper, an acoustic instability model is derived from the nonlinear wave equation for analysing acoustic dynamics in solid rocket motors. The chamber pressure and burning rate effects on combustion instability have been investigated.

  • A robust, accurate, broad-band, alternating current sensor using fiber-optics is being developed as a part of optical over current protection relay system. The sensor uses the Faraday effect in optical fiber and polarimetric measurements tc sense electrical current. The current sensing coil consists of a length of twisted optical fiber and Faraday rotator mirror to suppress the linear birefringence effect. Due to its single-ended closed path structure, it can not only be easily installed to the target with great isolation from other fields in the vicinity, but the sensitivity can be increased by using multiple turns. This paper reports on the theoretical backgrounds of the sensor design and the preliminary experimental results.

  • FTIR spectroscopic study was undertaken on dickite and pyrophyllite with Si and Al cations in the far-infrared(Far-IR) and mid-infrared (Mid-IR) regions, respectively. Attempts were made to present bonding information and make assignments on the absorption bands of dickite in the Far-IR region. Dickites contain a small proportions or kaolinite or nacrite layers. FTIR can be used as a potential tool for characterizing the presence of mixed-layer with different polytypes of the kaolin minerals. There is no clear relationship between Hinckley index and crystallinity of dickite. Although pyrophyllite shows a strong OH stretching band at 3673-3676 $cm^{-1}$ / corresponding to an inner hydroxyl group, the weak band at $3645-3648 cm^{-1}$ seems to be due to the symmetric vibration if the symmetry of the structure is not ideal, probably due to the presence of trace Fe or mixture phases of 1Tc and 2M polytypes.

  • Pulverization characteristics of H-kenyaite in vibration mill and exfoliation property in epoxy of pulverized H-kenyaite was investigated by using XRD, SEM, TEM. and particle size analyzer. Pulverization was conducted for 0.5~5 h. The particle morphology of sample pulverized for 1 h preserved plate-shape. However, this plate-shape disappeared in the sample pulverized for 3 h. The XRD pattern of sample pulverized for 1 h showed the characteristic peak of H-kenyaite. However, the peak disappeared in samples pulverized above 3 h, indicating severe destruction of H-kenyaite structure. TEM analysis for the kenyaite/epoxy nanocomposites exhibited only gallery expansion of 3~5 nm in non-pulverized sample, but dramatical large expansion of 5~10 nm in the samples pulverized during 1 h. This results confirm that the pulverization of wide plates composed of H-kenyaite particle have largely affect on the formation of an exfoliated kenyaite-polymer nanocomposite.
