  • Owing to the abnormal weather conditions due to global warming, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology has attracted global attention as a countermeasure to reduce CO2 emissions. In the Pohang CCS demonstration project in South Korea, 100 tons of CO2 were successfully injected into the subsurface CO2 storage in early 2017. However, after the 2017 Pohang earthquake, the Pohang CCS demonstration project was suspended due to an increase in social concerns about the safety of the CCS project. In this study, to reconfirm the structural suitability of the CO2 storage site in the Pohang Basin, we employed seismic imaging based on reverse-time migration (RTM) to analyze small-scale ocean-bottom seismic data, which have not been utilized in previous studies. Compared with seismic images using marine streamer data, the continuity of subsurface layers in the RTM image using the ocean-bottom seismic data is improved. Based on the obtained subsurface image, we discuss the structural suitability of the Pohang CO2 storage site.

  • Using the projected 2-dimensional tilted images obtained from the transmission electron microscopy, we can reconstruct the 3-dimensional structures of objects, such as cells. As a preprocessing procedure, the tilted images should be registered and compensated in terms of the spatial position and the intensity difference, respectively. In this paper, we employ the fiducial marker-based approach to perform a registration, and introduce a simple intensity compensation scheme. Based on the transmissivity image formation model, we propose an algorithm that can compensate the components of the illumination and transmissivity of each image according to the tilted angle. Numerical analysis using real images obtained from the transmission electron microscopy are shown in this paper to show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this study the support deflection effects in beam-girder slabs which are broadly being adopted in building structures are studied for both distributed loads and concentrated vehicle loads. Taking the finite element analysis of slabs supported with one or two cross beams, the member forces of slabs including the support stiffness have been calculated. Based on the obtained numerical results and regression analysis of those, correction factors of member forces for slabs supported with girders and cross beams have been proposed. Finally, the validity of the proposed correction factors are demonstrated through a typical design example.

  • The proposed simplified MDOF model is applied to a half-scale single-story reinforced masonry test building with a single diagonally-sheathed diaphragm. Comparisons of analytical studies to experimental tests can be valuable for understanding the seismic response of these types of buildings and for determining the qualities and limitations of the simplified models. A model calibration process is performed in this paper to determine the required structural properties based on the elastic and inelastic test responses for test building. This approach is necessary since established methods to determine the in-plane and out-of-plane stiffness, strength, and hysteresis do not exist.

  • Currently, the response correction factor is calculated by comparing the response measured by the load test on a bridge with the response analyzed in the initial analytical model. Then the load rating and the load carrying capacity are evaluated. However, the response correction factor gives a value that fluctuates depending on the measurement location and load condition. In particular, when the initial analytical model is not suitable for representing the behavior of a bridge, the range of variation is large and the analysis response by the calibrated model may give a result that is different from the measured response. In this study, a pseudo-static load test was applied to obtain static response with dynamic components removed under various load conditions of a vehicle moving at a low speed. Static response was measured on two similar PSC-I girder bridges, and the response correction factors for displacement and strain were calculated for each of the two bridges. When the initial analysis model was not properly set up, it is verified that the response of the analytical model corrected by the average response correction factor does not fall within the margin of error with the measured response.

  • Water content of sub-layer in pavement systems has a large effect on pavement performance. Many researchers lately make use of time-domain reflectometry(TDR) probes to measure the soil water content of sub-layer from field monitoring. The laboratory calibration test of TDR probe should be performed with soil field, because TDR probe can cause an error by type, gradation, density, and temperature of soil. This study performed the laboratory calibration test of TDR probe(CS616) with subgrade and subbase material in long term pavement performance(LTPP) sections. And the calibration equations of TDR probe(CS616) were then proposed. It was confirmed from the study that the data of TDR probe monitored in field could be used to estimate the freezing, unfrozen water content, and matric suction of soil.

  • In this paper, we propose a new digital hearing aid circuit that compensates the impaired threshold level changing nonlinearly using a multi-band compensation technique. In the algorithm the hearing frequency range 8kHz is divided into 64 bands which is 125Hz resolution. Each band is controlled finely to compensate the hearing impaired proportional to personal ROM table. The multi-band is introduced using a FFT/IFFT Processor which makes to control in frequency domain. As a result, the proposed circuit is more efficient $15\%$ than a conventional ones such as FIR filter architecture in terms of the compensation gun and accuracy. The hardware size was reduced $65\%$ than a general FFT by pre-handling of the input data.

  • This paper presents a low-complexity barrel distortion correction processor for wide-angle cameras. The proposed processor performs the barrel distortion correction jointly with the color demosaicking, so that the hardware complexity can be reduced significantly. In addition, to reduce the required memory bandwidth, an efficient memory interface is proposed by utilizing the spatial locality of the memory access in the correction process. The proposed processor is implemented with 35K logic gates in a $0.11-{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its correction speed is 150 Mpixels/s at the operating frequency of 606MHz, where the supported frame size is $2048{\times}2048$ and the required memory bandwidth is 1 read/cycle.
