  • The main cause of oral disease is the formation of tooth surface bacteria, and a chemical mouthwash is used as a suppression method. However, chemical preparations have side effects, so we tried to verify the antibacterial effect of bamboo extract against oral microbes. Subjects were 15 college students as a control group and an experimental group, and the changes in oral microbes before and after the use of distilled water and bamboo extract were compared. Analysis of SPSS Windows ver. 20.0 was used (p<0.05). Results The total number of pathogenic microorganisms further decreased after using bamboo extract solution after using gargling solution between groups.

  • Prevotella denticola is Gram-negative, obligately anaerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming, and rod-shaped bacterium. P. denticola is associated with periodontal disease and is a risk indicator of periodontal disease. P. denticola KCOM 1525 (= ChDC B698) was isolated from human periapical abscess. Herein, we present the complete genome sequence of P. denticola KCOM 1525.

  • This study aims to analyze the relationship with oral health status through oral examinations, microorganism tests, and surveys of college students and present basic data necessary for the development of oral health education programs to prevent. Results of students who did not receive brushing education showed high motile activities of microorganism, and there was a significant relationship in which students with a large amount of microorganism subjectively felt more tooth pain. Symptoms of halitosis were greater in the DT, there were differences in the type of bacteria and the amount of bacteria in the MT, and oral health was worse if oral aids were not used in the DMFT index. Therefore, it was confirmed that oral health behavior, subjective oral health awareness, and the amount of microorganism had a significant relationship with oral health status. It will be necessary to develop and share and spread customized oral health education media for each life cycle.

  • Cutibacterium acnes is a member of normal flora of human skin, conjunctiva, intestinal tract, the external auditory canal as well as oral cavity. It has been identified as an opportunistic pathogen related to acne vulagris, endocarditis infections, sarcoidosis, brain abscess, periodontitis, and osteomyelitis of the humerus. C. acnes KCOM 1315 (= ChDC KB81) was isolated from a human jaw osteomyelitis lesion. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of C. acnes KCOM 1315.

  • Purpose. The present study aimed to investigate the effective cleaning of healing abutment (HA) using Healing abutment case (HA case) by observing oral microorganisms with phase contrast microscope. Materials and methods. 32 patients with two or more implants placed in the same jaw, a total of 64 HAs (experimental group 32, control group 32) were selected and the control was cleaned with an alcohol swab. At the first and second visits, each group was observed before cleaning, and the experimental group was additionally observed after cleaning at the first visit. A 400× phase contrast microscope was used for the observation of oral microorganisms for its amounts. Results. There was no significant difference in the amount of oral microorganisms was found between the groups at the first visit, no significant difference according to gender, maxilla or mandible, and buccal or lingual surface. There was a statistically significant difference in the amount of oral microorganisms according to supra-gingival and sub-gingival (P<.05), There was also a significant difference in the comparison before and after cleaning in the experimental group (P<.05). There was a significant difference in the amount of oral microorganisms in each group at second visit (P<.05). Conclusion. Healing abutment cleaning using healing abutment case solution is more effective than simple cleaning with alcohol swab.
