  • The study uses a qualitative research method for an in-depth study on child care practice for preliminary child care teachers. The study shows firstly that prior to practice, a preliminary child care teacher expects to perform a dual role. The preliminary child care teacher conceives an unequal, vertical relationship with a practice guidance teacher and serves as someone between a teacher and a friend to children, while perceiving the facility head as a mediator and practice colleagues as companions. Secondly, the preliminary child care teacher performed a triple role, while the practice guidance teacher played the role of a preliminary child care teacher. A preliminary child care teacher has mutually supportive interaction with a practice guidance teacher and serves as someone between a teacher and a friend, while acting as an important supporter to the facility head and as an uncomfortable competitor to a practice colleague. Thirdly, when a practice is completed, a preliminary child care teacher feels satisfied and sorry, while emphasizing a balance between theory and practice in a curriculum. The purpose of the current study lies in figuring out the needs for child care practice for a preliminary child care teacher who is the subject in child care practice to suggest improvements for a qualitative enhancement of child care practice.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine what kinds of educational activities were carried out during the practice teaching based on CoRe and to identify the role of CoRe and its influence on the development of expertise of student teachers. This study was performed as qualitative case study. The subjects of this study were one practice supervisor teacher and two student teachers. Data were collected through recording CoRe discussion process, student teachers' instructional scene, and semi-constructed interview, and analyzed by an inductive method. Student teachers noticed their own misconceptions, and clarified the concepts based on CoRe during the discussion with supervisor teacher. They also supplemented their lack of knowledge and made up new strategies through the process of sharing their ideas. During the discussion, the supervisor teacher conveyed his teaching experience based on his own orientations toward science teaching. In this course, CoRe plays roles as follows. Firstly, CoRe played a role as guiding supervisor teacher's coaching process. Secondly, CoRe helped for the supervisor teacher to recognize their own PCK. Thirdly, CoRe served as a tool of helping their communication. In turn CoRe proved to be a useful frame for teaching student teachers during practice teaching. Student teachers were provided with a useful framework for preparing lessons by developing CoRe for the topic they teach. Developing CoRe with supervisor teacher at the planning stage of lessons enhenced student-teachers' subject matter knowledge and their PCK including knowledge of science curricula and knowledge of student's understanding of science. Also student teachers understood the components of PCK and experienced the positive understanding toward students, teaching activities, and themselves as a science teacher.

  • The goal of the study was to examine pre-service teachers' emotional experiences, especially during student teaching. The following questions guided this study. First, during student teaching, what are the characteristics of emotional experiences of pre-service science teachers? Second, what are used as the emotional rules and strategies by student teacher? In this study, we tracked nine pre-service science teachers over a four-week period of the student teaching. The data sources were lesson observations, interviews, emotional journals, and video-recorded classroom lessons. Results showed that student teachers experienced various 25 different types of emotions which were reported as the primary emotions of Koreans. The main subjects for interaction for positive emotions were students. For negative emotions, students, teachers and student teachers themselves all resulted in such negative emotional experiences. When the student teachers experienced negative emotions, they followed the emotional rule that their emotions should not be expressed in front of the students. Because of this, they tried various strategies for controlling emotions, such as 'understanding students', 'finding the positive side', 'seeing good students', 'ignoring', 'holding back', 'evading', and 'giving up'. Finally, suggestions for teacher education were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to get implications on teacher education curriculum according by analyzing pre-service secondary teachers' difficulties during student-teacher practice. Fifty-six pre-service secondary teachers were requested to write anecdotes about their student-teacher practice. Pre-service secondary teachers revealed that they had experienced the most difficulties relating to instruction teaching. They answered that they had especially comprehended inducing interest in diffcult learners, attention, appropriate composition of questions, and learners' understanding levels. Pre-service secondary teachers showed that they had tried to control students in experiment instruction. Also, they demonstrated that time for guidance counseling had been insufficient. They were dissatisfied with the content and level of counseling. Therefore, we need to improve teachers' college curriculum by performing student-teacher practice and feedback. We especially need to systematize teachers' college curriculum on the basis of developing standards of science teachers' expertise.

  • This study included eleven elementary pre-service teachers who participated in the first and second teaching practices held by J Education College in 2015. After the pre-service teachers were encouraged to self-reflect on their mathematics teaching using a reflective survey sheet of mathematics teaching expertise, their uses of mathematics teaching expertise were analyzed according to the times of their mathematics practice instructions. The results are as follows: First, as the frequency of their mathematics teaching increased, the pre-service teachers' uses of mathematics teaching expertise increased, especially greatly with seven of them. However, the number of subcategories where the teachers' uses of mathematics teaching expertise increased was different from at least two to seven depending on the teachers. Second, the pre-service teachers who performed mathematics teaching practices four times used more of mathematics teaching expertise than those who did two times or three times. Third, some pre-service teachers who taught two or three times never reached 90% of the total score of any subcategory, even in the subcategory where they showed increase in their uses of mathematics teaching expertise. Fourth, the subcategory of 'reflection before class - teaching perspective - understanding of mathematics subject knowledge' was analyzed as the most difficult one for the study participants, and the reason is, they think, that there are not enough materials on the historical back grounds of mathematical concepts.

  • In this study, we investigated pre-service teachers' reflection of questions during science instruction in teaching practicum from the perspective of productive reflection. The productive reflection used in this analysis has four aspects of learners and learning, subject matter knowledge, instruction, and assessment. Five pre-service teachers participated in this study. They reflected on their questions with one class video by using think-aloud method. Semi-constructed interviews were also conducted. The analyses of the results reveal that the aspect of 'instruction' and the 'learners and learning' were frequently included in their reflections. 'subject matter knowledge' was often included in their reflection while 'assessment' was hardly included. The integrations of the two aspects appear most often, those of three aspects appear only sometimes. However, four aspects appear very rarely. The integrations of 'learners and learning' and 'instruction' with the other aspects were most frequent, and the integrations of 'content knowledge' with the other aspects were often. However, the integration of 'assessment' was very few. There were more productive reflections from pre-service teachers who reflect on several questions in context than who reflected on questions one by one. In addition, they exhibited some difficulties in suggesting alternatives to improve their questions. They tried to modify the teaching method related to the questions rather than revise the form of questions. Based on the results, practical implications to improve expertise related to the questions of pre-service teachers were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the effect of mathematics teaching experience during the teaching practicum on pre-service elementary teachers' beliefs about mathematics. The conclusions drawn from the entire research were, as follow: First, it can be said that mathematics teaching experience during the teaching practicum has a significant effect on the change of pre-service elementary teachers' beliefs about mathematics. Specifically, the teaching experience during the teaching practicum has statistically significantly negative effects(p=.05) on pre-service elementary teachers' beliefs about the teaching mathematics. Second, the factors which help pre-service elementary teachers the most in preparing for mathematics classes are collaborating teachers in charge of supervising them, the teacher's guidebook and materials acquired from the Internet. Third, pre-service elementary teachers are well aware of the importance of understanding students and emphasize concrete manipulative activities, but experience lots of failures due to difficulty of drawing students' attention. Fourth, collaborating teachers do not play a significant role in helping pre-service elementary teachers develop and change their beliefs about mathematics positively. The advise given by collaborating teachers to pre-service elementary teachers is mostly about simple techniques of managing the classroom. So, collaborating teachers do not affect significantly and positively on the change of pre-service elementary teachers' beliefs. Fifth, regardless of their belief tendency, pre-service elementary teachers teach more confidently and feel more satisfactory when they prepared for classes more thoughtfully and understanded students more deeply.

  • In this study, we analyzed the current status and limitations of software education in A education universities. In order to solve these problems, technical support assistant teachers were employed and operated. During the course of the course, we conducted interviews with the instructor and the technical support teacher. The satisfaction of the teacher in the training school was high and I wanted to be supported continuously. It also called for the capacity building of assistant teachers and the establishment of a pool of staff. On the other hand, the assistant teachers suggested that the role assignment of team teaching should be clarified and a guide of activities should be presented. The technical assistance assistant teacher input system discussed in this study may be different from the practice system of each university, and generalization may be limited. Therefore, it is expected that the effective implementation method will be shared and the software education will be activated.

  • The purpose of the study is to explore the types and coping methods of dilemmas that pre-service science teachers experience during student teaching. For this, we collected 131 dilemma journals that 34 pre-service science teachers wrote during a four-week period of student teaching. Results show that first, there are five categories of dilemmas, they are, 'Which science teacher should I be?', 'What is good science teaching?', 'How should I build relationships with the people around me at school?', and 'Who am I as a student teacher?'. Second, pre-service science teachers' status as a students-teachers made them cope with dilemmas passively. Third, when they cope with the dilemmas, student-teachers considered the dilemmas as conflicts of irreconcilable alternatives rather than opportunities of conciliation and compromise, therefore, most pre-service science teachers choose just one alternative and only 20% of dilemmas are resolved by compromise choice. Finally, dilemmas which showed the features of science teaching are the dilemmas related to scientific inquiry teaching and science teaching-learning model. Based on the results, we discussed the implications for teacher education.
