There are many bioethical issues in line with the rapid advance of biology. In this situation, it is important for students to make a rational decision on value problem. In this study 'value inquiry in biology education' is defined as 'the process of rational value judgement and wise decision-making in the biology-related value problem' and the model was developed. To develop the model, value inquiry models were reviewed. Value clarification model is helpful for the formation of the personal value as the process of individual value inquiry, but it isn't helpful for clarifying the value conflicts. Value analysis model focuses on the rational solution of value problem through the logical procedure. But it has the limitations that overemphasizing the logical and systematic aspects results in devaluating students' affective aspects. So it is necessary to coordinate psychological and logical aspects of value inquiry. In this regard, the model was developed, including identifying and clarifying value problem, understanding biological knowledge related to conflict situation, considering on the related persons, searching for alternatives, predicting the consequences of each alternative, selecting the alternative, evaluating the alternative, and final value judgement and affirming it. The educational objectives of value inquiry were selected in consideration of the ability to carry out the steps of the developed model. And the selected contents were animal duplication, test-tube baby, genetic engineering, growth hormone injection problem, brain death, organ transplant, animal to be experimented and were organized on the basis of the 6th and the 7th science curriculum. And the suitable instructional models for the value inquiry education were selected: bioethical value clarification decision-making model, group presentation according to the value analysis model, role play and debate, and discussion through web forum. And the interview was considered to be suitable to evaluate the students' value inquiry ability and the rubric was made to evaluate the attainment of the educational objectives for value inquiry.

In this study, mathematics education program was developed for the foreign students who entered the science and engineering college of Korea in order to improve their basic competency and to prevent dropouts. It is applied to 5 Chinese students, 4 male students and 1 female student. Three students are majoring in engineering college and two students are majoring in natural science college. Before applying the mathematics education program to foreign students, most students did not draw a graph of the 'irrational function' and the 'exponential function' and did not understand the concept of the 'limit' at all. However, after applying the mathematics program, all foreign students were able to draw graphs of the various function and the limit values were calculated accurately. Through the results of this study, the researcher proposes some of the following. When developing mathematics education programs for foreign students, it is very important to develop teaching materials suitable for their level. Textbook developers need to select and organize contents that are essential for learning in university mathematics and to present mathematical concepts and examples considering the Korean language level of foreign students. Moreover, it will be necessary to try to present mathematical terms commonly used in Korea in their native language or English.

Developing pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) has been emphasized as one of the requirements for science teacher's professionalism, and it should be done from systematic teacher training courses. In this study, we investigated the components considered in planning instruction and the difficulties encountered in implementing it in PCK held by secondary pre-service teachers. Twenty-seven juniors at a college of education in Seoul were asked to perform teaching demonstrations using scientific instruction models. They were also requested to write reflective journals and interview. Analyses of the results revealed that teaching strategies and learners' cognitive affective aspects were considered by most secondary pre-service teachers, whereas curriculum and assessment were regarded by few of them. For examples, choosing instruction models and organizing instructions were concerned in teaching strategies. They also considered learners' cognitive affective aspects for selecting experiments as main activities. Only few considered learners' prior-knowledge. Most difficulties encountered in planning instruction and implementing it appeared in teaching strategies. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
Recently, a variety of programs for elementary school students that utilize play in their curricula are supported. In this study, we are trying to draw up ways to activate play education based on the elements necessary for the play education to be effectively provided on the field and the current operational status. In order to achieve the research goal, nine participants of play experts and parents were selected for the focus group interview (FGI). The FGI consist of five questions: (1) opinions on the establishment and joint operation of the organization to support play and parents' education; (2) opinions based on experience in participating in existing training programs; (3) activation plan of play & education program; (4) competencies required by members of the organization; (5) evaluation of program for quality improvement. Through the FGI survey, we drew ideas for the operation of play & education programs to promote positive growth and support systemic programs of both preschoolers and elementary students. In order for play & education to be active in the field of education, a center where play & education and parents' education can be conducted at the same time should be established and operated so that the education can be integrated with play. Based on these findings, we proposed follow-up research in the direction of achieving specific goals and enhancing the quality of play education.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and specific elements of successful science classes that pre-service elementary school teachers think. For the study, 61 pre-service elementary school teachers (47 females, 14 males) were recruited as research participants. The data used in the study are mutual evaluation papers prepared during class performances by group and individual. The amount of data was a vast amount of qualitative data with a total of 150 pages, and the research results were derived by inductively categorizing this data through qualitative analysis. The summary of the research results is as follows. First, the factors constituting a successful science class were analyzed into 7 categories (14 sub-categories, 33 sub-elements). The elements that make up a successful science class in detail were analyzed as science subject contents, class management, selection of teaching and learning methods and organization of class contents, teaching and learning materials, understanding of students, understanding of teaching situations, and class-related efforts. Second, it was possible to describe the practical classes of pre-service teachers by collecting the details of the elements that make up a successful science class recognized by pre-service teachers. As seen in the above research results, the characteristics and specific elements of successful science classes recognized by pre-service teachers were identified, and based on this, pre-service teachers will be able to develop support for effective science class operation, and continuous analysis should be conducted.

This study examined the position and the characteristics of Korean writing textbooks in the rationales for writing education. Also, it explored the activities of writing knowledge formation based on the rationales in order to further propose some suggestions for the development of writing textbooks afterward. For this, it chose four Korean writing textbooks and presented the analyzed results through the processes consisting of material gathering, open coding, deep coding, expression and presentation as ones for the text qualitative analysis. First, it researched how the rationales such as formalism, cognitivism, and social constructivism were applied to and manifested in those textbooks. Furthermore, it examined how the language activities in the textbooks were shown from the four dimensions such as the knowledge of language structure, the process knowledge, the context knowledge, and the content knowledge; in particular, it focused on the content knowledge. It found out the results as follows. The rationales in structuring the chapters were not consistent with inner structures and contents. All the four writing knowledges were applied to each textbook; however, the emphasis and the proportion were different in each textbook. Also, it pointed out the textbook which contains diverse activities to be able to help the learners form the content knowledge and this sort of textbook is more effective from the perspective of social constructivism. Based on those results, it discussed several points which can be considered in the development and the selection of Korean writing textbooks later.
It has been realized that the flavor of coffee depends on the coffee-producing region and the growing condition. It has also been realized that the species of coffee beans influence the taste of coffee. However, coffee education is currently underway mainly for the simple job training of baristas such as roasting, extracting and customer service, and very little education on green coffee is being done. Therefore, this study is to contribute to the basic research material for the curriculum development of green coffee education. Through surveys to coffee instructors and students to investigate the current situation of green coffee education and awareness level of green coffee, the requirements of green coffee education has been analyzed. Further, the teaching direction and learning factors of green coffee have also been analyzed through Interview Analysis to coffee professionals. Based on the result thereof, this study is to suggest systematic lecturing-learning standards by presenting an education goal of green coffee, selection of education contents, determination of subject name, and composition and listing of education units to be learned. This study will be one of the basic research materials to plan and design the curriculum for green coffee education.
