  • Crown fractures are the most frequent traumatic injuries to permanent teeth and mainly involve the maxillary incisors due to their exposed position in the dental arch. One option for managing crown fractures, when the tooth fragment is present and in good condition, is reattachment of the fragment to its original position. This paper reports on three crown fracture cases in which successful esthetic and functional results were achieved by reattachment of the tooth fragment.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the development process and describe the diagnosis methods, theories and treatments of Mongolian traditional medicine and Korean traditional medicine through literature records and prior studies. Methods Literature records and previous studies on traditional medicine of both countries were collected through various sites in Mongolia (Esan, Mongoliajol, Kok, Yumpu, Scribd, Science and Technology Foundation [STF]) and Korea (Koreanstudies Information Service System [KISS], Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information [KISTI], National Digital Science Library [NDSL], Research Information Sharing Service [RISS], Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System [OASIS]). Also the English database was searched through PubMed. In the case of Mongolian traditional medicine, medical books published in Mongolia were mainly referenced and used for research. Results Studying the development process, basic concepts and the system of diagnosis and treatment of the two traditional medicine, several commonalities and differences were revealed. Conclusions This study showed that the scope of diagnosis methods between Mongolian and Korean traditional medicine were slightly different, and that the medical terminology for the diagnosis method had slightly different contents from each other. Although there were many similarities in treatments of Mongolian and Korean traditional medicine, the Chuna therapy is found in Korean traditional medicine only. The basic theories constituting traditional medicine were the same, but the five-element theory used by the two countries differs in the following two factors. Mongolia uses elements of air and space as the theory of five elements, while Korea uses elements of wood and iron.

  • Objectives Hwanggeumjakyak-tang (HJT) has traditionally been used to treat gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases; however, its protective effects against neuronal inflammation are still undiscovered. Methods We investigated the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of HJT water extract on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV2 mouse microglia cells. BV2 cells were treated with LPS (1 ㎍/mL) 1 hour prior to the addition of HJT. We measured cell viability using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and nitrite production using the Griess assay. We performed a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assay to measure messenger RNA expression of inflammatory cytokines including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. Western blot analysis was performed to determine protein expression of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB)α. Results HJT inhibited excessive nitrite release in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells and also significantly inhibited inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells. Moreover, HJT significantly suppressed LPS-induced MAPK and NF-κB activation and inhibited the elevation of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in the brain of LPS-injected mice. Conclusions Our study highlights the anti-neuroinflammatory effects of HJT via MAPK and NF-κB deactivation.

Methods: From November 1, 2020 to June 19, 2021, 36 cases of data of 33 respondents of the CaPSPI were analyzed. For the use of the basic data of the clinical menopausal disorder, we investigated frequency of menopausal symptoms and the difference between them depending on the period of menopause, and the presentation of usage prescriptions. And the diagnostic results for three kinds' diagnosis [for examination (D1), for treatment (D2), by doctors (D3)] were compared. The diagnostic consistency of D1 and D3 and the statistical significance between DT and disease elements (證素) was investigated. Results: 1. Hot flush was the highest in the symptom survey of the menopause that the subjects complained of, followed by insomnia. There was no significant difference in symptom expression according to menopausal period. 2. The diagnostic consistency of D1 and D2 showed significant diagnostic consistency only in liver depression, and the diagnostic consistency of D1 and D3 showed significant consistency in liver depression and Dual Deficiency of Heart and Spleen. 3. D3' diagnosis and disease elements had statistical significance for cases of P<0.1 was found to be related to the theory of oriental medicine. Conclusions: It is needed to continue to accumulate diagnosis and treatment results through CaPSPI in the future to strengthen the basis for patten identification and treatment of menopause disorders.

  • The purpose of this article was to investigate the current state of studies on clinical trials of acupuncture treatment for Alzheimer's disease using neuroimaging method. We searched for clinical trials of acupuncture treatment for Alzheimer's disease(AD) and mild cognitive impairment(MCI) using neuroimaging method in the MEDLINE (Pubmed) database on March 18, 2020. Once the online search was finished, studies were selected manually by the inclusion criteria. Finally, we analyzed the characteristics of selected articles and reviewed the neural substrates of acupuncture treatment in AD. Total ten studies were included in this study. The most frequently applied modality for AD was functional MRI. The most frequently selected acupoints for AD were KI3, LR3 and LI4. One of studies showed that acupuncture treatment could improve the symptoms of MCI. Through the analysis, we demonstrated that neuroimaging method could capture the neural substrates associated with AD. Moreover, acupuncture may induce differential response according to the disease status. Finally, real acupuncture could produce more extensive activation/deactivation than sham acupuncture. We hope that neuroimaging method can contribute to the clinical research of acupuncture treatment for AD through large-scale RCT and diverse imaging modality.

Methods: The studies were searched from psychotherapy to general consultation, directly or indirectly related to counseling and Four Pillars of Destiny. Twenty-one published research studies were selected for analysis. The studies were categorized into 7 groups, meta-analysis, comparison with other personality tests, user's trend analysis, utilization in job counseling, disease prediction study, utilization in treatment counseling, and use in Korean medicine. Results: The selected studies attempted to expand Four Pillars of Destiny's usage through combination with other fields such as artificial intelligence, Korean medicine, and personality test. Furthermore by analyzing Four Pillars of Destiny itself to extract its key elements in counseling, such as therapeutic counseling factors and occupational counseling factors. Conclusions: At present, there are no standard use of Four Pillars of Destiny in counseling scene, for no large-scale research has been conducted or completed on this subject. This current status quo leads this paper to end up just understanding the counseling factors and possibilities of Four Pillars of Destiny rather than its psychological theory and clinical effect. However, this research trend analysis will be helpful in preparing future studies investigating Four Pillars of Destiny's counseling effect, application in the counseling scene and its psychological theory. Also, further studies, including confirmation of the theory through the operational definition, prospective research, control study, statistical technique are required in order to evaluate Four Pillars of Destiny's psychological theory and its effects to verify its use in clinical scenes.
