  • In this study we grasp what contents in the mathematics curriculum the students of multicultural and North Korean migrant families are vulnerable to and we would like to provide the bases to devise the appropriate teaching and learning methods for them. In order to this work we used the results of 2011 National Assessment Educational Achievement. We categorized students from multicultural and North Korean migrant families into children from international marriage family (born in country or immigrated), foreign family, and North Korean migrant family and compared each category with the whole students. First, for each school class we analyzed characteristics of academic achievement by ratio of achievement level, means of calibrated score, and percentages of correct answers in NAEA, mean percentages of correct answers by content domains, and percentages of correct answers by items. In addition to these we analysed items qualitatively and investigated study conditions in which the students of multicultural and North Korean migrant families have difficult times. In every subgroup the more ratio of advanced level decreases and ratio of below basic level increases the more school classes go up. Also these phenomena appear differently by each group and by content domain. For this reason by group, the supporting on learning will be needed.

  • International comparative studies of students' performance in mathematics have shown that Korean students possess very negative attitudes toward mathematics, while they are ranked as one of the highest in the cognitive achievement of mathematics. This has prompted mathematics educators to seek for a way to improve the quality of mathematics education. In this context, this research has been conducted to investigate the learning style of Korean middle school students under the assumption that it is of essence to understand the characteristics of our students as mathematics learners. For the purpose, in-depth interview had been conducted and sixteen middle students participated in the interview. The students were chosen to represent the average group of their age-cohorts based on their performance in mathematics and their SES. The interview was designed as a semi-structured clinical interview. In the interview, the students were given mathematical tasks dealing with central themes in the domain of function. Each student was given about 30 to 50 minutes to solve the tasks. After an interviewee finished the tasks, s/he was asked to explained how s/he solved the tasks. The researchers asked additional questions to clarify the students' understanding of the mathematical themes in the tasks and to identify their strategies for learning mathematics. The analysis of the in-depth interview has primarily identified the characteristics of the students' understanding of the main themes in function and then has been extended to investigate their characteristic styles for learning mathematics. The analysis of the interview identified the learning styles of the students as 'inductive learning based on prototypical cases', 'repeated practice of exemplar mathematics problems', 'disengaged learning', and 'double standards in learning mathematics'. Based on the results of the analysis, this research presents the implications for the improvement of mathematics education.

  • In this paper, we did not observe only the actual condition of accounting education, but also proposed the improvements for better education in commercial high schools in Jeju. We expect that those enable the high school students to be interested in accounting. These days, crisis of the accounting education is not only caused by poor educational system, but also is caused in large part by lack of efforts for improving the accounting education. In order to improve the quality of the accounting education and enable the students to be interested in accounting, it is necessary to understand why the students feel difficult about accounting. Learning the reasons enables teachers to educate by much more personalized curriculum, so that those will provide the opportunities to enable the students to pay more attention to accounting. we analyzed the realities in educating accounting by conducting a survey for the students. We also proposed the improvements based on the results of analyzing the realities of the accounting educations. The improvements are followings. First, the accounting education should be educated through various ways. Second, curriculum fitted to the high school students level should be developed. Third, subjects related with accounting should be improved by considering efficiency.

  • This study is a basic study to prepare policies related to selecting media to be included in textbooks. Researchers looked at previous studies focusing on how media affect children's and adolescent's emotions according to their developmental stages. Researchers also wanted to identify how the media is related to student emotions, health, and educational effectiveness. The researchers then examined a wide range of domestic media review and rating criteria, and argued that it is necessary to institutionalize the rating system of media at national level policy level. Based on the previous discussion, the researchers made seven suggestions. First, it is necessary to specify media selection criteria in the guidelines for issuing textbooks at the national level. Second, guidelines are needed to help review the political neutrality and human rights aspects of the media for inclusion in textbooks. Third, media selection guidelines in textbooks should be detailed with reference to categories and age based criteria of domestic and foreign media rating system. Fourth, the media rating system should be applied flexibly if there is a clear educational purpose. Fifth, institutional support is needed for setting guidelines for media collection of textbooks. Sixth, media experts should participate in the whole process of textbook development. Seventh, educational programs should be implemented to support teachers to use self directed learning by using educational media in classroom instruction.

  • Stop-motion animation is highly valued for realistic imagery and its ability to captivate the five senses of the audience. Despite this, practical research in this area is limited to date. The long hours required to produce stop-motion animation and turn these into profits can be attributed for the lack of knowledge in this area. In production research, the matter is made worse as it is difficult to protect the intellectual property made through the collaborated efforts of students and teaching staff through each laborious stage of planning, broadcasting and making 2D models. Meanwhile as the animation industry finds the investigation of new production processes taxing, it has maintained its focus on pre-existing processes such as the use of pipeline. This paper aims to shed light on new production methods that can be used to improve the effectiveness of existing stop-motion production. In addition, by working with Taktoon Enterprises on its T.V series Galaxy Kids the paper will revise real world production methods including the traditional use of hand made models. Thus by investigating the use of graphic technology such as 3D printing the paper will be able to extend current business models. Research conducted in this paper is a necessary part of overcoming various contents production obstacles. Furthermore, it may help publicize issues faced in production leading to the discussion and sharing of new innovations.

  • As the existing edutainment contents for children are mostly comprised of educational tools which unilaterally induce educatees to passively respond to them, the content-creating methodologies in terms of which active and voluntary learning is made possible is urgently needed. In this paper, we present the implementation of the tangible 'electronic dice' interface as an interactive tool for behavior-based edutainment contents, and propose a methodology for developing edutainment contents for children by utilizing the recognition technique of hand movement based on depth-image information. Also proposed in the paper are an authoring and management tool of learning quizzes that allows educators to set up and manage their learning courseware, and a log analysis system of learning achievement for real-time monitoring of educational progress. The behavior-based tangible interface and edutainment contents that we propose provide the easy-to-operate interaction with a real object, which augments educatees' interest in learning, thus leading to their active and voluntary attitude toward learning. Furthermore, The authoring and management tool and log analysis system allow us to construct learning programs by children's achievement level and to monitor in real-time the learning development of children educatees by understanding the situation and behavior of their learning development from the analytic results obtained by observing the processes of educatees' solving problems for themselves, and utilizing them for evaluation materials for lesson plans.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends in international development and cooperation on education and to suggest directions for the Korean teachers and teacher education to achieve 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).' The examination of 8 databases resulted in the identification of 2,945 studies, and 6 of these references met the inclusion criteria for systemic review. Major findings revealed that pre- and in-service teachers recognized the necessity of international development education but had a low degree of teacher efficacy. The teachers who participated in ODA education programs have experienced difficulties due to insufficient understanding of local sites and role performance. Then, a couple of studies of mathematics and early childhood education compared the Korean national curriculum and education system with developing countries'. Lastly, it is important to have a sustainable system which promotes all teachers, including retired ones, in global development and cooperation on education. For the successful achievement of SDGs, Korean teachers should develop their expertise, a deep understanding of partner countries, and stable quality education for the underprivileged.

  • Sijo is the essence of Korean literature and the most ideal poetic form through which we can express our images gracefully in three lines. Hence it deserves special emphasis either in creative writing and appreciating it from elementary school to middle school. In this paper observes how Sijo is taught in the schools and suggests the direction of educating Sijo. There may be three kinds of Sijo performance, namely, recitation, reading, and singing. In this paper. it is claimed that the performance of Sijo in the twenty first century should be recitation. Sijo education may be effective when it focuses on a way of recitation in which, with natural and long breath, a piece of Sijo is recited at length. Nevertheless, it is not practiced as the way of recitation because of following two reasons. Firstly. the analysis on rhythm, which is on the base of its recitation, is extremely difficult. Secondly, the theoretical ways, which is obsolete and lacks vividness, are ineffective in education. By these reasons. 1 studied how to give a recitation following my preceding studies on rhythm and rhythmical reading of Sijo. As a result, this paper suggests a reading method as a solution to the problems. In fact, we Korean can discipline our mind and body through reciting Sijo to the rhythm which is transcendental to Korean and at the same time, Sijo education helps to enhance our pride as koreans in the process of studying Sijo.

  • This study suggested a process of redesigning and implementing problem based learning to enhance students' active and collaborative learning activities and learning outcomes. The results of this study are as follows. First, the ef ect of class participation, academic self-regulated learning, and academic self-efficacy were examined. As a result, first, the average of learning activity, class extension, and participation in class was high in the difference between before and after class. Second, the post average scores of all the factors except the 'evaluation' were higher than before. Third, academic self-efficacy showed a significant difference only in 'task preference'. Finally, students' satisfaction with the class was also high. The professor was also able to grasp the characteristics of individual students by designing and operating the classes using PBL, and it was confirmed that the interaction with students increased. Based on the results of this study, we discussed the limitations and educational implications of the problem based learning class and propose successful problem based learning design and operation of the classroom.
