  • The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between metacognition and math creative problem solving ability. Specific research questions set up according to the purpose of this study are as follows. First, what relation does metacognition has with creative math problem-solving ability of mathematically gifted elementary students? Second, how does each component of metacognition (i.e. metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive regulation, metacognitive experiences) influences the math creative problem solving ability of mathematically gifted elementary students? The present study was conducted with a total of 80 fifth grade mathematically gifted elementary students. For assessment tools, the study used the Math Creative Problem Solving Ability Test and the Metacognition Test. Analyses of collected data involved descriptive statistics, computation of Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis by using the SPSS Statistics 20. The findings from the study were as follows. First, a great deal of variability between individuals was found in math creative problem solving ability and metacognition even within the group of mathematically gifted elementary students. Second, significant correlation was found between math creative problem solving ability and metacognition. Third, according to multiple regression analysis of math creative problem solving ability by component of metacognition, it was found that metacognitive knowledge is the metacognitive component that relatively has the greatest effect on overall math creative problem-solving ability. Fourth, results indicated that metacognitive knowledge has the greatest effect on fluency and originality among subelements of math creative problem solving ability, while metacognitive regulation has the greatest effect on flexibility. It was found that metacognitive experiences relatively has little effect on math creative problem solving ability. This findings suggests the possibility of metacognitive approach in math gifted curricula and programs for cultivating mathematically gifted students' math creative problem-solving ability.

  • This paper explores students' question generation process and their study in small group discussion. The research is based on Anthropological Theory of the Didactic developed by Chevallard. He argues that the savior (knowledge) we are dealing with at school is based on a paradigm that we prevail over whether we 'learn' or 'study' socially. In other words, we haven't provided students with autonomous research and learning opportunities under 'the dominant paradigm of visiting works'. As an alternative, he suggests that we should move on to a new didactic paradigm for 'questioning the world a question', and proposes the Study and Research Courses (SRC) as its pedagogical structure. This study explores the SRC structure of small group activities in solving ill-structured problems. In order to explore the SRC structure generated in the small group discussion, one middle school teacher and 7 middle school students participated in this study. The students were divided into two groups with 4 students and 3 students. The teacher conducted the lesson with ill-structured problems provided by researchers. We collected students' presentation materials and classroom video records, and then analyzed based on SRC structure. As a result, we have identified that students were able to focus on the valuable information they needed to explore. We found that the nature of the questions generated by students focused on details more than the whole of the problem. In the SRC course, we also found pattern of a small group discussion. In other words, they generated questions relatively personally, but sought answer cooperatively. This study identified the possibility of SRC as a tool to provide a holistic learning mode of small group discussions in small class, which bring about future mathematics classrooms. This study is meaningful to investigate how students develop their own mathematical inquiry process through self-directed learning, learner-specific curriculum are emphasized and the paradigm shift is required.

  • This study has been established with two purposes. The first one is to development the learning-teaching model for enhancing students' creative proof capacities in the domain of demonstrative geometry as subject content. The second one is to aim at experimentally testing its effectiveness. First, we develop the learning-teaching model for enhancing students' proof capacities. This model is named the generative-convergent model based instruction. It consists of the following components: warming-up activities, generative activities, convergent activities, reflective discussion, other high quality resources etc. Second, to investigate the effects of the generative-convergent model based instruction, 160 8th-grade students are selected and are assigned to experimental and control groups. We focused that the generative-convergent model based instruction would be more effective than the traditional teaching method for improving middle school students' proof-writing capacities and error remediation. In conclusion, the generative-convergent model based instruction would be useful for improving middle grade students' proof-writing capacities. We suggest the following: first, it is required to refine the generative-convergent model for enhancing proof-problem solving capacities; second, it is also required to develop teaching materials in the generative-convergent model based instruction.

  • Currently practical examination can't function as a practical technique ability evaluation', so there is a contradiction which even though a radiologist passed an examination for license, he has to complete a training course. To improve this problem, this study tried to deduce the most reasonable plan from the analysis of propriety of currently practical examination and what improvement points are. This conduct study was compared and analyzed the performance or practical examination of radiology from leading advanced countries within the samples of 634 radiologists, 56 professors of radiology. From the result of this study, it showed that radiology practical examination was difficult to be substituted by radiology clinical training since there were some critical differences between conditions of domestic and advanced countries. Therefore, the introduction of the radiology practical examination is inevitable and necessary. However the currently practical examination can't evaluate actual practical ability, so we could conclude that converting it into OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) form is essential. From now on, we should consider more about an in-depth study on types of advanced practical examination and how to suggest and present them in order to become an one of the advanced countries for radiologic technologist.

  • This study examined the effectiveness of maternity nursing simulations using a high-fidelity simulator for undergraduate nursing students. One-group pretest-posttest design was used. The simulation-based education program consisted of three sessions, including the clinical scenarios about prenatal, childbearing and postpartum care. The program provided for 3 weeks in November 2014. Data was collected before and after the simulation education using self-reported questionnaires, which included simulation effectiveness, problem solving ability, communication skills and self-confidence in maternity nursing. The data of 83 participants were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.0 program. After simulation education, the overall score of the simulation effectiveness was 17.4 out of 26.0. Communication skill (t=4.58, p=<.001) and self-confidence in maternity nursing (t=9.70, p=<.001) increased significantly in the posttest. On the other hand, there was no significant change in the problem solving ability. The simulation effectiveness correlated significantly with the problem solving ability (r=.494, p<.001), communication skill (r=.361, p<.001), and self-confidence in maternity nursing (r=.497, p<.001) after simulation-based education. These findings suggest that the high-fidelity simulation in maternity nursing education could be used not only to enhance the nursing competency, but also to deal with the limitations of the clinical practicum in the current situation.

  • In proportion to the increase of public security demand, the private companies advanced continuously every year. However the size of the industry expanded in its quantity, the quality remains the same as before. So it's important to training of the security officers. This study suggest the improvements of training system through the analysis and the review of problems of training and education security officers. To develop our private security industry, we suggest as follows. First, In spite of the training is important, the recognition against security officers training is low, so the improvement is demanded. Second, When selecting the educational institution, it does not reflect the demand and situation of education enough. So there is necessary that selecting the educational institution again, after finishing a demonstration duration. Third, The education contents is general, so there is a necessity of the education which is professionalized. Fourth, In order to improve the ability of the lecturer, we must strengthen the qualification of the lecturer. Fifth, For the development of securities industry, we must found the professional training institution.

  • Previous research has recently shown that non-cognitive factors such as attitudes toward statistics contribute positively to statistics learning, Hence, helping students develop positive attitudes toward statistics has become one of the essential goals of statistics teaching. A wide variety of instruments assessing attitudes toward statistics were developed and validated in foreign countries, but not many in Korea. The SATS-36(Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics-36; Schau et al., 1995) has been regarded as one of the most valid measures of attitudes toward statistics. Therefore, this study was designed to validate a Korean version of Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics(K-SATS). Instead of six factors of the original scale, a five-factor structure including interests, value, cognitive competence, difficulty, and effort was empirically supported by the Korean student sample. The results evidenced high reliability and construct validity of K-SATS. In addition, students' attitudes towards statistics differed across gender, level of statistics courses, degree programs, and major. These findings were discussed in terms of their implications for future research and statistics teaching.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze elementary school teachers' perception on application of STEAM education. For this study, a survey was administered to 80 primary teachers. The result showed as follows: First, even though, elementary school teachers have known about the meaning and aims of the STEAM education in detail, they often took a neutral attitude toward the actual teaching method. In addition, they take a negative attitude toward having the gathering. Second, only a few elementary school teachers prepared and used the teaching materials related to the STEAM education in class and teach students the concept based on the STEAM education. Only a few elementary school teachers said that they used the developed modules. However, the demand, developing the modules, was extremely high. This result means that the easy and available modules should be developed to establish the STEAM education. Third, only a few elementary school teachers applied the subject, activity, and estimation related to the STEAM education in actual class. Forth, even though, after applying, there much be the positive affects, most elementary school teachers could not recognize the positive affects. At the same time, elementary school teachers suggested the curriculum should be reorganized for students to connect between the results of the STEAM education and the contents of the textbook, and the easy and available program should be developed and spread, also. The attitude of elementary school teachers toward the application of the STEAM education was normally negative. Therefore, it is needed to include more STEAM related contents in the science textbooks and to develop various STEAM education materials and circulate them as well as to establish adequate teaching and assessment methods for STEAM education.
