Performance analysis of WA-DGNSS in Korea with the selection of reference stations (한국에서의 기준국 네트워크 선정에 따른 GNSS 광역보정시스템 성능 분석)

  • Wide area differential GNSS(WA-DGNSS) collects GPS measurements from the several reference stations and estimates 3-D satellite orbit error, satellite clock error, ionospheric delay. These correction messages are broadcasted to user, then user can have more accurate and reliable position estimates. The performance of WA-DGPS can be changed depending on the position of reference stations. To select proper reference stations, performance analysis with the change of reference stations is necessary. In this paper, changing the geographical location of reference stations, we carried out simulation based test and show the performance of WA-DGNSS in Korea.

  • This paper describes the progress and results of 'Wide Area Differetial GNSS (WA-DGNSS) Development' project which is supported by Korea Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. This project develops the main algorithm of the WA-DGNSS which can guarantee the improved accuracy, availability and integrity all over the Korean peninsula. After the establishment of WA-DGNSS ground system, a real time demonstration using pseudolite will be conducted. Product of this project will be directly utilized in Korean Satellite Based Augmentation System(SBAS) development project which is planned to be started from 2014.

  • Unlike OSR(observation space representation), the SSR(state space representation) augmentation system is suitable for a one-way broadcasting service because it provides the same corrections to all users in the service area. Due to this advantage, several GNSS(global navigation system) systems such as Galileo, BDS(beidou navigation satellite system), QZSS(quasi zenith satellite system) are establishing PPP (precise point positioning)/PPP-RTK precision positioning services based on SSR messages. Therefore, in this paper, we try to understand the trends of satellite-based PPP/PPP-RTK correction services by analyzing the system configurations, characteristics, and precise positioning performance of satellite-based SSR correction broadcasting services.

  • After USA removed the Selective Availability (SA), Global Positioning System (GPS) has monopolized the world market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely. So the other countries, Russia, European Community (EC) and Japan, which apprehend to monopolize in technical and strategic parts, are developing the next generation GNSS including GLONASS Galileo and JRANS. And the countries are planning to provide the another GNSS. This research has focused on the next generation GNSS system based on GPS and Galileo system with developing a GNSS simulation software, named as GlMS2005, which generates and analyzes satellite constellation and measurements. Based on the software, a variety of simulation tests have been carried out to recognize limits of GPS-only system and potential benefits of integrated GPS/Galileo positioning in terms of satellite geometry strength and solution accuracy.

  • For using Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) in the civil aviation, it should satisfies the Required Navigation Performances(RNPs) which are defined by International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO). RNP defines the required accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity of each flight procedure. In order to guarantee user's integrity, user's protection level has to be overestimated. On the other hand, for improving user's availability, user's protection level has to be estimated tightly. Therefore protection level should be estimated as tight as possible while it assuring the user's integrity. This paper describes the current integrity function of Korean WAD GNSS test bed, and predicts the availability performance of Korean WAD GNSS by simulation.

  • Extrapolating the correction information of ionosphere is essential for expanding wide area differential GPS (WADGPS) service area beyond the reference station network. In this paper, design and analysis of the artificial neural network for expanding the ionospheric correction region will be proposed. First, analysis about influence of each input of neural network were performed. The inputs are the day/year periodic function, sunspot number, and geomagnetic index (Ap). Second, performance analysis with respect to the number of hidden layers and neurons in the neural network is shown. As a result, estimation of total electron contents (TEC) on the high/low latitude regions in solar max(2014) are displayed.

  • Space-Based Augmentation System (SBAS), which is one of the GPS augmentation systems, is a Wide-Area Differential GPS that provides differential GPS corrections and integrity data. In this study, we did performance analysis of kinematic SBAS surveying by conducting Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), DGPS, standalone, and SBAS surveys. Considering static survey results as truth, 2-D Root Mean Square (RMS) error and 3-D RMS error were computed to evaluate the positioning accuracy of each survey method. As a result, the 3-D positioning error of RTK was 13.1cm, DGPS 126.0cm, standalone (L1/L2) 135.7cm, standalone (C/A) 428.9cm, and SBAS 109.2cm. The results showed that the positioning accuracy of SBAS was comparable to that of DGPS.

  • Method establishment needs for recent shortening the flight path, fuel reduction, reduction of the flight delay time, increase of the route capacity like as relieve congested airspace and solving future demand. However, As the existing conventional navigation systems is impossible to be resolved. Hereupon, SBAS has been developed with using the GNSS. ICAO has recommended that SBAS need to be operated with aircraft operation from 2025, korea is also developing KASS in accordance with the recommendation. In this paper, before the 2022 KASS will be completed, KASS can be expected using for flight test and inspection as analyzing KASS flight test and relative specifications.

Diurnal Effect Compensation Algorithm for a Backup and Substitute Navigation System of GPS (GPS 백업 및 대체 항법을 위한 지상파 신호의 일변효과 보상 방안)

  • In this paper, we describe a compensation method of diurnal effect which is one of the factors giving large effect on the performance when using ground-wave signals like Loran-C for a backup and substitute navigation system of global satellite navigation system such as GPS, and currently many researches of the topics are doing in USA and in Europe. In order to compensate diurnal effect, we find periodic frequency components by using the Least Square Spectral Analysis (LSSA) method at first and then compensate the effect by subtracting the estimated compensation signal, obtained by using the estimated amplitude and phase of the individual frequency component, from the original signal. In this paper, we propose a simple compensation algorithm and analysis the performance through simulations. From the results, it is observed that the amplitude and phase can be estimated with under 5 % and 0.17 % in a somewhat poor receiving situation with 0 dB Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Also, we analyze the obtainable performance improvement after compensation by using the measured Loran-C data. From the results, it is observed that we can get about 22 % performance improvement when a moving average with 5 minutes interval is employed.

A Study on the PRC Generation Algorithms for Virtual Reference Stations Using a Network of DGNSS Reference Stations (DGNSS 기준국 네트워크를 활용한 가상기준국 보정정보 생성 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • For service-area-widening and commercialization of DGNSS service, Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs is developing a DGNSS service based on VRS using T-DMB. In this study, three PRC generation algorithms are developed for VRS DGNSS and their accuracies were evaluated. Three DGNSS correction generation algorithms are based on inverse distance weighting, 1st- and 2nd- multiple linear regression, and their positioning accuracies were compared in terms of the number of reference stations used for network composition and the algorithm type. As a result, the positioning accuracy of the case of using 16 sites is better than that of 6 sites. And the algorithm using the multiple linear regression showed the best performance. When the positioning accuracy of VRS DGNSS was compared with the traditional single-reference DGNSS, the improvement ratio was 20-23% and 20-36% for the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively.
