There are various definitions of Science Culture nowadays. In this study we redefine Science Culture as a union between Science and Culture. We also develop the Framework of Science Culture Indicator (FSCI). which consists of five fields; History of Science, Philosophy of Science, Literature and Art of Science, Scientific Social Activity and Scientific Media. In this study we also investigated the level of the Science Culture of secondary school teachers, and compare them by teachers' majors: Science, Liberal Arts and Social Studies. To analyze the data, the Kruskal-Wallis Test is adopted. It is found that there are significant differences in the level of Science Culture by teachers' major, and the group of science teachers has the highest level of science culture.

In this study, external representation presented in two units, 'Property of Gas' and 'Changes of States of Matter,' in seventh grade of 2015 revised science curriculum, were analyzed to suggest educational implications. External representations presented in five science textbooks were analyzed according to the six criteria, which were 'type of representation,' 'interpretation of surface features,' 'relatedness to text,' 'existence and properties of a caption,' 'degree of correlation between representations comprising a multiple one,' and 'function of representation.' The characteristics of typical representations related to each achievement standard of two units were also analyzed. The results were as follows: The macro representations for 'type of representation', and explicit representations for 'interpretation of surface features' showed highest frequency. For 'relatedness to text' criteria, 'completely related and linked' and 'completely related and unlinked' representations showed the highest frequency. It means that most representations were properly related with the text. There were appropriate captions for most representations. The degree of correlation between representations comprising a multiple one was largely sufficiently linked with regards to the criteria 'degree of correlation between representations comprising a multiple one'. The complete representations for 'function of representation' showed the highest frequency in the aggregate, however incomplete representations showed more frequencies in the inquiry parts. The typical representations for each achievement standard differed in terms of the type, contained information, used symbols and so on. The educational implications with the use of representations presented in seventh grade textbook were discussed.
The object of this research is to understand the domain-universality and domain-specificity of scientific domain and visual art domain from case studies on individuals who had made creative accomplishments in the domain of science and visual art. For case studies, 10 people who made creative accomplishments in the science and technology domain and 9 people who made creative accomplishments in the visual art domain were selected as the research participants. The conclusions for the case studies were made on the data obtained from interviewing the research participants using KES as an analytical frame. The findings of this study support as follows. Creativity on scientific domain and visual art domain is both the domain-universality and domain-Specificity. The domain-universality Of scientific domain and visual art domain is related to the nature of human beings, originality in creativity, and the natural selection. On the other hand, The domain-specificity of scientific domain and visual art domain is related to the type of knowledge and the context of applying the knowledge, will, thinking skill, direction, and social components.
To get basic data for the utilization of Pinkpop Borisu fruit and leaf as a raw material in functional food, antioxidative activities were investigated. The radical scavenging activity of various solvent fraction from fruit and leaf against the DPPH and ABTS radicals increased with the increasing amount of various solvent fractions and butanol fraction of leaf showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activities. Among the various solvent fractions from fruit and leaf of Pinkpop Borisu, butanol fraction of leaf showed the strongest scavenging effect on ABTS radicals. Reducing power and ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) of the various solvent fractions from fruit and leaf increased with the increasing concentration of fractions and butanol fraction of leaf showed the highest reducing power. The butanol fraction of fruit and leaf showed strong antioxidative activity on linoleic acid system. Total phenolics contents of butanol fraction from fruit and leaf were 106.34 and 252.46 mg/g, respectively. The antioxidative activities of the butanol fraction from fruit and leaf are attributed to phenolic compounds. The present results suggest that butanol fraction of Pinkpop Borisu leaf would have the protective potential from oxidative stress induced by free radicals.
In this paper, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge was estimated. Currently, LNG bunkering barge is being developed for the bunkering of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), an eco-friendly energy source. Since the LNG bunkering barge assumes the form of a towed ship connected to the tow line, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge is crucial f not only for the safety of the LNG bunker barge but also the neighboring sailing vessels. In the initial stages, a numerical code for towing simulation was developed to estimate the towing stability of the LNG bunkering barge. The MMG (Maneuvering Mathematical modeling Group) model was applied to the equations of motion while the empirical formula was applied to the maneuvering coefficients for use in the initial design stage. To validate the developed numerical code, it was compared with published calculation and model test results. Towing simulations were done based on the changing skeg area and the towing position of the LNG bunkering barge using the developed numerical codes. As a result, the suitability of the designed stern skeg area was confirmed.

In this paper, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge is estimated. Currently, LNG bunkering barge is being developed as an infrastructure for the bunkering of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), an eco-friendly energy source. Since the LNG bunker barge are in the form of towed ship connected to the tow line, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge is very important for the safety of not only the LNG bunker barge but also the surrounding sailing vessels. The numerical code for towing simulation was developed to estimate the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge at the initial design stage. The MMG(Manoeuvring Mathematical Group) model was applied to the equations of motion and the empirical formula was applied to the maneuvering coefficients so that they could be used in the initial design stage. To validity of the developed numerical code, it was compared with published calculation and model test results. Towing simulations were carried out according to with and without stern skeg of the LNG bunker barge using the developed numerical code. Through the results of the simulations, the appropriateness of the stern skeg area designed was confirmed.
Concerns related to diversity are important throughout society, especially in the context of expansive globalization. In education, diversity-related issues require careful consideration to ensure social groups that have historically been marginalized benefit from educational opportunities. In this study, we investigated a case from within the United States aimed at addressing diversity issues in schools and discuss the implications of this study in relation to diversity issues in Korea. More specifically, we examined the features of the professional development program designed and implemented by the Smithsonian Science Education Center, as well as survey results from teachers who participated between 2019-2020. Our findings revealed that the program provided participants context specific experiences, space and time to develop an in-depth understandings of the causes of diversity issues and supports to attend to the various perspectives needed to set specific goals and action plans and to examine, refine, and revise their plans. Further, features of the professional development program had meaningful effects on participants' learning experience as they were supported to identify useful proposals and take action to solve their specific diversity issues. The findings from this study offer important implications for designing professional development and organizing supports to address varied current and future diversity issues in Korean school contexts.

The purpose of this study was to identify differences of perceptions for gardens and parks between experts and the general public concerning several aspects including scope, scale, publicity, artistic and scientific nature, main materials, practicality and aesthetics, executive and management systems as well as legal understanding of garden and park. The properties of garden and park were derived through literature research, and the concept, similarity, and difference of gardens and the parks were recognized by the experts and the public viewpoint was clarified by questionnaire. As for the difference in the scope of the gardens and the parks, the expert group recognized it more widely than the general public. In general, the space recognized as a garden was the rooftop green space, and urban forests were recognized as a park. In addition, the general public recognized urban forests as gardens the same as they recognized parks, and the distinction was unclear. In the expert group, the perception that gardens were small and the parks were large was more prevalent. It was generally recognized that gardens were private spaces and the parks were public spaces. In the expert group, the gardens were more personal and the parks were more apparent to the public. In the general population, functional and scientific aspects rather than artistic creativity in both gardens and parks. In addition, both the general public and experts found that parks are more complex than gardens. The garden was centered on plant material, and the park was recognized as a center where the sculptural facilities were centered, or the plant material and the sculptural facilities were properly balanced. To the experts the view of the gardens was positive. Expert groups emphasized the aesthetics of the garden, and the parks were more practical, and the general population showed similar perceptions of utility and aesthetics when comparing gardens and parks. In addition, the utility of gardens in the general publics is more emphasized than the aesthetics of the park. Regarding the executive system the park was recognized as the public sector, and the difference was larger in the expert group. As for the management system, both experts and the general public perceive the management of the park or the garden to be carried out by the supporting organization, and it is necessary to discuss the diversification of the management subject. It is found that there is a certain difference in recognition with the mixture of concepts, and there is still a big difference in legal system and perception.
Science cultures in the dimension of social interaction must be correlated with science cultures or science literacy in the dimension of psychological interaction. In order to develop a mature science culture, it must be assumed 1) that a science culture in a society ran be evaluated and 2) that we have to set up the criteria for evaluating it. This paper, based on the assumptions, makes an attempt to analyze the concept of science literacy underlying the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) conducted by OECD. The analyses are driven by the questions such as 'which philosophical backgrounds are absorbed into the concept of PISA' science literacy?' and 'What suggestions can be found with respect to the goal of enhancing the science culture?' In conclusion, the science literacy in PISA reflects the elements proposed by logical empiricism, naturalized philosophy of science, and social constructivism, which are being incorporated by the 'collaboration research program' conducted by the newly-emerging interdisciplinary field of 'science of science.' Finally, some further suggestions are added to the analyses to pursue more positive directions to induce mature science cultures in our society.
Previous Earth Science textbooks have mostly lacked the latest astronomical phenomena frequently being reported in mass media such as popular science magazines. One of the main directions in the revision of the 2009 National Curriculum of Korea is to actively include those phenomena. Furthermore, despite a close link between astronomy and physics, the concept of modern physics has not been actively introduced in Earth Science textbooks and at the same time the linkage of physics to astronomy has rarely been studies in physics textbooks. Therefore, the concept of integration among different fields in science is emphasized in the new National Curriculum. Transient phenomena in the high energy astrophysical objects are examples that reflect such issue. The purpose of this study is to introduce transferring a real-time data and making imaging of astronomical observations using e-Science. As a first step, we performed the first experiment for a large data transfer of astronomical observation between Korea and Japan using KOREN, a National Research and Education Test Network. We introduce actively on-going fields of e-Science in observational activities of astronomy and astrophysics, and their close interrelationship with scientific inquiry activities and public outreach activities. We discuss our experiment in the scientific and educational aspects to the primitive e-Science activity in the Korean astronomical society and, in turn, provide a prospective view for its application to the scientific inquiry activities and public outreach activities in the upcoming commercial Gbps-level internet environments.
