Poly [(dimethylmethylyinyl) siloxane] phosphineoxide (PMViSPO) was prepared by adding phosphorus oxychloride $(POCl_3)$ to poly (dimethylmethylyinyl) siloxane (PMViS) at $0^{\circ}C$ under nitrogen atmosphere. Cadmium selenide (CdSe) was prepared by reacting cadmium oxide (CdO), tetradecyl-phosphonic acid (TDPA), trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) at $300^{\circ}C$, and adding solution of dissolved Se to tributylphosphine (TBP) and trioctylphosphine (TOP) CdSe-poly [(dimethylmethylvinyl) siloxane] phosphine-oxide (CdSe-SPO) adduct was synthesised by adding PMViSPO to CdSe solution. Liquid silicone rubber composite (LSRC-1) was prepared by compounding $\alpha,\omega-vinyl$ poly (dimethylsiloxane) (VPMS), $\alpha,\omega-hydrogen$) poly(dimethylsiloxane) (HPMS), and CdSe under Pt catalyst, and also LSRC-2 was prepared from VPMS, HPMS, and CdSe-SPO using Pt catalyst. It was confirmed that CdSe nanoparticles with photoluminescence characteristics was dispersed uniformly in LSR matrix. The diameter of CdSe was $30\sim50nm$. By measuring the number of CdSe nanoparticles, 202 particles of CdSe in LSRC-2 and 165 particles of CdSe in LSRC-1 were dispersed in the same area of LSR matrix. Thermal stability for LSRC-2 compounded with CdSe-SPO was better than LSRC-1.
In this study, we synthesis polyimide with high gas selectivity using 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane, 2,4,6-Trimethyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (DAM) and 4,4-Methylenedianiline (p-MDA), and then the asymmetric membrane was fabricated by non-solvent phase separation method. To confirm the property change of the membrane using different solvent, we measured and compared the viscosity of the polymer solution, cloud point and non-solvent phase separation coefficient. The morphology and gas separation property of membrane prepared by phase separation method was confirmed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microsope and the single gas permeation measurement apparatus. The single gas ($CH_4$, $N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$) permeation property and selectivity value of the membrane prepared with NMP was higher than the membrane prepared with DMAc. We confirmed that the gas selectivity of the membrane increased and the permeation property decreased with increasing of the solvent evaporation time.

To increase the stability of liposomes in blood circulation, surface modification of liposomes by incorporating a lipid-polymer derivative in the lipid bilayer or conjugating a hydrophilic polymer to the liposomal surface has been developed. In this study, the comblike copolymer, poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM), having multiple polyethyleneoxide side chains was prepared by free radical polymerization of hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and hydroxypolyoxyethylenemethacrylate (HPOEM) as vinyl monomers. Poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM) was conjugated to the liposomal surface and the characteristics of the modified liposomes in serum were investigated. Conjugation of poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM) to liposomes increased the particle size of the liposomes by 30 nm and decreased the absolute value of zeta potential of the liposomes by shielding the negative charge of liposomal surface. Loading efficiency of model drug, doxorubicin, in liposomes was about 90% and the efficiency was not affected by conjugation of poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM) to liposomes. The particle size of poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM)-conjugated liposomes in serum did not changed and the protein adsorption was lower than that of control liposomes or liposomes containing polyethyleneoxide-lipid derivative (PEG-liposomes). These results suggest that poly(HEMA-co-HPOEM) is efficient for the stabilization of liposomes in blood circulation.

In this study, hydrophilic coating characteristics of PVDF [poly(vinylidene fluoride)] hollow fiber membranes with flower type cross-section prepared by thermally induced phase separation were studied. The hollow fiber used in this study was provided from PureEnvitech Co. Ltd., and the hydrophilic coating experiment was performed with different concentration and number of coating of PEBAX 1657, 2533 and 3533 block copolymer solution using a dip coating method. The hydrophilic coated hollow fiber membrane was characterized to scanning microscope and contact angle measurements to determine the degree of hydrophilization. As a result of SEM characterization, it was confirmed that the thickness of the coating layer increased as the coating concentration increased and the number of coatings increased. Contact angle of surface of hollow fibers decreased as the concentration of the coating solution increased and the number of coatings increased. Gas permeance of oxygen gas was measured for the application of the hydrophilized hollow fiber to Membrane Areated Biofilm Reactor. As a result of gas permeation test, it was confirmed that gas permeance decreased with increasing coating concentration and number of coatings, and the more hydrophilized hollow fiber coated with PEBAX 1657 showed lower gas permeance than those coated with PEBAX 2533 and 3533.

To study the effects of the acid group of functionalized MWNT (multiwalled carbon nanotube) on the thermal and mechanical properties of polyacrylonitrile(PAN) nanofibers, acid ($H_2SO_4/HNO_3$) treated MWNT (O-MWNT) were further functionalized by diazonium salt reaction with 5-aminoisophthalic acid (IPA). Compared to O-MWNT, IPA-MWNT with isophthalic acid group showed a better dispersion stability in polar solvents and IPA-MWNT/PAN composite film displayed lower heat of reaction (${\Delta}H$) than that of homo PAN when stabilized under air atmosphere. The continuous electrospun fibers were prepared using a conductive water bath. PAN fibers containing 1 wt% of IPA-MWNT showed an increase of tensile strength by 100% and tensile modulus by 240% compared to the PAN fibers without IPA-MWNT.
In the present study the membrane filtration characteristics of a commercially available synthetic water-based cutting oil through two kinds of ultrafiltration membranes (HF1-45-CM50 and HF1-43-CM100) with molecular weight cut-offs of 50,000 and 100,000, respectively, have been investigated in detail. Among these membranes, the hydrophilic one (HF1-45-CM50) was found to show a satisfactory result for both the permeate flux and the permeability of oil components, whereas the permeate flux obtained with the hydrophobic membrane (HF1-43-CM100) appears to be significantly low, indicating that synthetic cutting oil was easily wetted on the hydrophobic membrane surface and induced more membrane fouling. The effect of material characteristics of the membrane on the filtration characteristics was found to be much more significant compared with the mean pore size of the membrane. Backflushing by nitrogen gas was applied to reduce the formation of a gel layer and membrane fouling. With the hydrophilic membrane, the backflushing was found to increase the permeate flux, whereas the backflushing resulted in a decrease in flux for the hydrophobic membrane. The flux recovery was observed to be highest when the membranes fouled with waste synthetic cutting oil were immersed into a cleaning solution for more than 72 hours and then backflushed by nitrogen gas.
We studied on preparation of nanoparticles modified surface using biodegradable polymer, poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA). Two kinds of PLGA nanoparticles were prepared by a spontaneous emulsification solvent diffusion (SESD) method using cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) as a cationic surfactant and polyethylene glycol-block-polypropylene glycol copolymer (Lutrol F68) as a nonionic surfactant. Model protein was coated on the surface of nanoparticles by the ionic complexation. The model protein was that influenza vaccine ($H_3N_2,\;H_1N_1$, B strain) labeled with NHS-fluorescein. The sizes of cationic nanoparticles were 140-160 nm and the surface charges were 50-60 mV. The sizes of nonionic nanoprticles were 80-90 nm and the surface charge was -10 mV. After coating vaccine on the surface of nanoparticles, the sizes of cationic nanoparticles were increased to 380-400 nm and the size of nonionic nanoparticles was not increased. The amount of coated vaccine on the cationic nanoparticles was 22.73 ${\mu}g$/mg.

A new energetic thermoplastic elastomer based on the azidated polybutadiene(Az-PBD)/ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) blends was prepared, and structure and properties of the blends were invetigated by SEM, DSC, DMA, tensile testing and combustion test. The Az-PBD was synthesized via a two-step process involving the addition reaction of commercially available 1,2-PBD with $Br_2$ and subsequent nucleophilic substitution reaction of the brominated PBD with $NaN_3$. EVA/Az-PBD with 90/10, 80/20, 70/30 (wt/wt) was prepared by a solution blending. SEM, DSC, and DMA results revealed that the blends are partially compatible and Az-PBD is dispersed in continuous EVA matrix. Tensile test showed that modulus and tension set increased while elongation-at-break of the blends decreased with increasing Az-PBD content in the blends, but all the blends showed a elongation at break as high as 700% and a tension set of less than 5%, indicating that the blends are typically elastomeric. Combustion test showed that, with increasing Az-PBD content in the blend, higher energy can be released.
Ipriflavone (IP) stimulates proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast and also enhances calcitonin secretion in the presence of estrogen. Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLCA) due to its controllable biodegradability and relatively good biocompatibility is one of the most significant candidates for the study of drug controlled release system. In this study, IP-loaded PLGA microspheres (MSs) was prepared by using conventional O/W solvent evaporation method. The size of MSs was in the range of 5~200 $mu extrm{m}$. The morphology of MSs was characterized by SEM. And, in vitro release amounts of IP were analyzed by HPLC. The highest encapsulation efficiency were obtained by using gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as emulsifiers. The morphology, size distribution, and in vitro release pattern of MSs were changed by several preparation parameters such as molecular weights (8, 20, 33 and 90 kg/mol), polymer concentrations (2.5, 5, 10 and 20%), emulsifier types (PVA, gelatin and Tween 80), initial drug loading amount (5, 10, 20 and 30%) and stirring speed (250, 500 and 1000 rpm). The release of IP in vitro was more prolonged over 30 days, with close to zero-order pattern by controlling the preparation parameters. The physicochemical properties of IP-loaded PLGA MSs were investigated by XRD and DSC.

We manufactured poly (L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) scaffolds impregnated demineralized bone particle (DBP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) by ice-particle leaching method and tested their ability of sustained release of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF (50 and 200 ng) mixed with PLGA, DBP/PLGA, HA/PLGA and DBP/HA/PLGA scaffold. The release profiles of BDNF from BDNF loaded scaffolds were assayed using ELISA. Morphological changes of scaffolds by BDNF release were also observed by SEM. BDNF stably and sustainedly released from DBP/HNPLGA than from PLGA and DBP/PLGA scaffolds. DBP/HA/PLGA scaffolds showed the great structural changes, which demonstrated BDNF release amount from DBP/HA/PLGA scaffolds were highest in all groups. We suggest that BDNF loaded DBP/HNPLGA scaffold would be very useful for nerve regeneration.
