  • It is not easy to evacuate when people face with emergency situation in deep underground space because space perception and synthetic judgement are readily lowered. In stead of evacuating safely outside within the given time, evacuation safety zone is required to be designed and installed. In this study, PATS (Pedestrian movement based Assessment Toolkit for Simulation) is applied to build a comprehensive and analytic framework for seeking the optimal (or proper) numbers and locations of evacuation safety zone. With two scenarios of emergency situation at intermodal transfer center with the 6 floor in underground, the problematic location on the evacuation path has been identified and the proper locations has been presented.

  • Despite geospatial information systems are widely used in many different fields as a powerful tool for spatial analysis and decision-making, their capabilities to handle realistic 3-D urban environment are very limited. The objective of this work is to integrate the recent developments in 3-D modeling and visualization into GIS to enhance its 3-D capabilities. To achieve a photorealistic view, building models are collected from a pair of aerial stereo images. Roof and wall textures are respectively obtained from ortho-rectified aerial image and ground photography. This study is implemented by using ArcGIS as the work platform and ArcObjects and Visual Basic as development tools. Presented in this paper are 3-D geometric modeling and its data structure, texture creation and its association with the geometric model. As the results, photorealistic views of Purdue University campus are created and rendered with ArcScene.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate manual skills of experimental apparatuses of pre-service elementary school teachers by examining and analyzing the process of experiments conducted by pre-teachers. For this study, 24 pre-service elementary school teachers were selected as the subjects and 4 experimental apparatuses were chosen through analyzing science textbooks from 3rd grade to 6th grade in elementary school. The selected experimental apparatuses were alcohol burner, dropper, microscope, instruments for making a prepared specimen. In addition, a task was carefully chosen to conduct an investigation in real settings and a series of evaluation standards was developed. While 3 subjects conducted experiments in separated and independent space at the same time, 3 collaborators observed the experiment process and recorded whether the subject met the evaluation standards or not, using O, X. The study suggests that pre-service elementary school teachers' manual skills of experimental apparatuses were under far below our projections. Particularly, in case of alcohol burner, the subjects showed lower ability to properly light the burners - which is to brush through the lampwick with fire - and to adjust the height of tripods according to the flame. Also, when it comes to dropper, they were not held the way they were supposed to be. In addition, when designing prepared specimen, the subjects used their hands instead of tweezers and often skipped the process of dripping water drop and wiping water with an oilpaper. Moreover, they did not know how to use a microscope properly so there were many times that they could not focus a microscope, failing to observe the objects. Educational implications are discussed.

  • This study analyzed on the content validity of the Korean geography subject evaluation questions on the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT) from 2014 to 2016 regarding the national curriculum achievement standards. The main results are as follows. First, from 'the knowledge dimension' aspect, both the achievement standard and the CSAT questions showed the highest ratio of 'factual knowledge'. Second, from 'the cognitive process dimension' aspect, the percentage of 'understand' was the highest in the achievement standard, whereas in the CSAT questions, the ratio of 'analyze' and complex type of 'analyze' and 'understand' was the highest. Third, in the result of the analysis of the content validity of the Korean geography CSAT questions through proportion test, all of the analysis targets showed 'a little low'. Finally, the content validity analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the main types of the achievement standards and the CSAT questions in the 'Geomorphological Environment and Ecosystem part' and 'Space of Production and Consumption part' from the cognitive process aspect, which showed relatively low content validity compared to other areas. The results of this study suggest that the achievement standards should be reflected on the Korean geography CSAT questions and it should not be focused on evaluating the learner's analysing ability.

  • This study aims to develop an ecoregion classification using a multi-hierarchy of environmental factors for spatial patterns in the capacities and potentials of ecological systems in mountain regions. To achieve the objectives, we describe the spatial distribution of environmental factors and identify the multi-hierarchy of these factors using spatial statistics. Lastly, we assess ecosystem-units using both a forest type map (yung & kung) and a forest soil map in order to present a ecoregion classification. This study was performed at a $1,168km^2$ area in Gangwon-do, Korea. Sedimentary rocks, particularly limestone (36.6%) exist in high proportions in the research area. While higher mountains are present in the north and central Korean peninsula, plain areas show large proportions along Odae and Pyeongchang river. In a multi-hierarchy, geology and elevation are identified as upper levels and landform classification (surface curvature, upslope area) is considered as a lower level. 'Geology+elevation+landform' shows equally higher ${\chi}^2$ values than that of other classifications and we map ecoregions based on this result. Uniqueness of environmental characteristics in the research area such as high proportions of sedimentary rocks and higher elevations influences our ecoregion classification. We are looking forward to considering this study as an effective approach to integrating various ecological themes for mountain ecosystem management.

It's specifically meant to prepare a career education program to assist students to get an accurate grip on their aptitude, interest and personality and explore various sorts of occupations in the course of solving authentic and contextual career-related problems. After children's developmental characteristics and needs were analyzed, task analysis was implemented, and the objectives were defined. And then the core of the program, PBL problems were developed, and the validity of the problems were verified Evaluation plans and tools were prepared to assess children's problem-solving process and presentation, and an online learning space was designed. The program that consisted of 10-minute 21 sessions was provided to fifth-grade elementary schoolers for eight weeks. The findings of the study were as follows: The experimental group that participated in the PBL-based career education program showed a more significant improvement than the control group that didn't in career attitude and three career attitude subfactors involving planness, disposition and compromise. And the former made a more significant progress than the latter in career ability and its subfactors including vocational comprehension, self-understanding and decision-making skills as well. As a result of making a content analysis to make up for the survey, the students reported that they were able to get an objective understanding of themselves and acquire diverse and profound knowledge on work and the business world in the middle of solving the given PBL problems related to different areas in group and giving a presentation. In conclusion, a PBL based career education program developed by this researcher encouraged the students to have an objective self-understanding, to have a dynamic interactive discussion with their group members. Therefore the program had a positive impact on boosting the career attitude and career ability of the elementary schoolers. • As the number of users of SNS (Social Network Service) and smart devices increases sharply nowadays, many studies on various teaching models and methodologies have been made in order to utilize SNS in education. However, there are not so sufficient studies that explore social media as a learning environment and analyze empirically its relation with the academic achievement. Since various kinds of learning experiences are required in order to foster creative talents, it is necessary to have information sharing, debate and information exchange utilizing SNS. If utilizing SNS for general computer education in a university, it will be possible to collect learners' various thoughts and opinions more effectively. Because real-time feedback can be possible in each individual space through SNS by sharing the information related to the interactions between learner and teacher or between leaner and learner and exchanging opinions each other, the learner's ability to utilize a computer can be improved. Especially SNS can provide a real-time help to solve problems for underachieved students and provide an opportunity to improve the academic achievement.
