  • 1970년 초에 배럴당 1불하던 원유가가 지금은 120불을 상회하고 있다. 더욱 놀라운 것은 3년 전만 하더라도 40불 이하 수준이던 것이 불과 몇 년 사이에 3배 이상 급등해 버린 것이다. 우리는 아직 유가 100불 이상의 고유가 시대에 대한 고통을 실감하지 못하고 있지만, 빠른 시일 안에 대항한 형태로 우리를 불편하게 하고, 더가서는 사회 경제 문화 등 모든 우리의 활동패턴에 근본적 변화를 일으킬 것이라는데는 어느 누구도 이의를 달지 못할 것이다. 한편 90년대만 하더라도 친환경 건축기술은 선택적 사양으로 인식되어 왔으며, 일부 고급건물 또는 데모성격의 건물에만 반영되던 미래의 기술 분야로 간주되어왔다. 하지만 10년 남짓 지난 지금 우리 주변에서 가장 흔하게 접할 수 있는 용어 중의 하나가 친환경, 지속가능, 그린, 에코 등 이며, 최근 많은 건설사가 고민하고 있는 가장 중요한 이슈가 친환경 건축 관련 기술이 되어버렸다. 최근 유가의 급등세 보다는 더디다 할 지라도 몇 년 사이에 벌어지고 있는 제도적, 사회 경제적 변화 동향을 돌이켜 볼 때 건축계 또한 매우 빠른 속도로 변해가고 있으며, 부지불시간에 유가등급과 같이 변화된 환경에 놀라는 시기가 곧 도래할 것이다. 오랜 기간 에너지 및 친환경 관련 요소기술의 개발, 정부의 지원제도 확대, 보급 강화 등 각종 노력을 통해 이제는 건축 설계분야에서도 친환경건축물에 대한 저변이 크게 확대되었다고 볼 수 있다. 하지만 실상 우리주변에서 제대로된 친환경 건축물을 실제로 보고자 한다면 두손으로 꼽기도 힘들 정도인 사실에 놀라게 될 것이다. 이러한 배경하에 이번 연재에서는 그동안 오랜기간 떠들고 노력했음에도 불구하고 실제 제대로된 친환경 건축물을 우리 주변에서 찾기 힘든 이유를 건축실무자 측면에서 재고해 보고, 이에 대한 새로운 해결방안을 모색해 보는 계기를 갖고자 한다. 특히 많은 친환경 건축기술 중 최근 선진국을 중심으로 가장 큰 이슈가 되어 있고, 또한 건축사 입장에서 쉽게 접근하기 어려운 기술분야인 신재생에너지 건축응용 측면에서 다양한 최신 기술 및 실질적 접근방법과 사례를 주제별로 제시하고자 한다.

Silhouette-based Gait Recognition Using Homography and PCA (호모그래피와 주성분 분석을 이용한 실루엣 기반 걸음걸이 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a gait recognition method based on gait silhouette sequences. Features of gait are affected by the variation of gait direction. Therefore, we synthesize silhouettes to canonical form by using planar homography in order to reduce the effect of the variation of gait direction. The planar homography is estimated with only the information which exist within the gait sequences without complicate operations such as camera calibration. Even though gait silhouettes are generated from an individual person, fragments beyond common characteristics exist because of errors caused by inaccuracy of background subtraction algorithm. In this paper, we use the Principal Component Analysis to analyze the deviated characteristics of each individual person. PCA used in this paper, however, is not same as the traditional strategy used in pattern classification. We use PCA as a criterion to analyze the amount of deviation from common characteristic. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to the variation of gait direction and improves separability of test-data groups.

  • Industrialization and Urbanization have given rise to ill effects in areas sudl as standardization and simplification. As a result, eadl area has developed abnormally losing its own uniqueness. During globalization and localization in country, the diverse economic cultural activities adopting the area,s uniqueness are the starting point for development and widening its identity. Excavating and developing local cultural industries are urgent considering the importance of economic profits not having environmental problems. Factors identifying an area's characteristics may be dassified as formation works of urban identity, landscape design. cultural industry, developing local areas, etc. This study was a concrete approadl to compose and analyze domestic and foreign cases factors. For practical analysis and application on the Ulsan,s characteristics from a design point of view, way of local development and cultural industry in Ulsan have been researdled.

Characterization of Bacteriocin Production by Lactococcus sp. J-105 Isolated from Kimchi (김치에서 분리한 Lactococcus sp. J-105가 생산하는 Bacteriocin의 특성)

  • A bacteriocin-producing strain, J-105, was isolated from Kimchi and identified as Lactococcus sp. The optimum conditions for the bacteriocin production from the isolated microorganism were evaluated. For maximum yield of bacteriocin from Lactotoccus sp. J-105, the cell should be harvested at the early stationary phase and temperature, pH and NaCl concentration should be $25^{\circ}C$, pH 8.0 and without the addition of NaCl, respectively. Maltose should be used as a carbon source and organic nitrogen such as polypeptone should be used as a nitrogen source for the best yield. The bacteriocin from isolate was inhibitory against Acetobacter aceti, Bacillus subtilis and several strains of lactic acid bacteria. The bacteriocin of J-105 was sensitive to pepsin, but stable for heat treatment. It was stable even at autoclaving temperature for 15 min.

  • The efforts to represent the numbers based on the decimal system give us fundamental understanding to construct and teach the concept network on the related knowledge of elementary and secondary school mathematics. In the process to represent natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, real numbers as decimal system, we will classify the extended decimal system. Moreover we will obtain the view to classify real numbers. In this paper, we will study the didactical significance of mathematical knowledge, which arise from process to represent real numbers as decimal system, starting from decimal system representation of natural numbers, and provide the theoretical base about the classification of real numbers. This study help math teachers to understand school mathematics in critical inside-measurement and provide the theore tical background of related knowledge. Furthermore, this study provide a clue to construct coherent curriculum and internal connections of related mathematical knowledge.

An Experimental Study on the Usability Test for the E-Book Reader (전자책 단말기의 사용성 평가에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Many e-book readers have become available as e-books are in popular use these days. We first developed the evaluation criteria and elements for testing the usability of e-book readers and then examined the usability of three e-book readers. The usability testing was conducted using three e-book readers that were most popular with 15 participants that consisted of middle school students, university students, and office workers. The study found that iPad showed the best usability. In case of Amazon Kindle, participants indicated that the lack of the touch function imposed a great deal of negative impact on the usability of the interface. Also, the hardware- and software-oriented usability provided by an e-book reader was considered to be a very important element for the users, and the portability in connection with the hardware-oriented aspect of an e-book reader was shown to be of great effect to the overall usability of an e-book reader.

Seismic Behaviors of Concrete-Suction-Type Offshore Wind Turbine Supporting Structures Considering Soil-Structure Interaction (지반-구조물 상호작용을 고려한 콘크리트 석션식 해상풍력 지지구조물의 지진거동 특성)

  • In this study, characteristics of seismic behaviors of offshore wind turbine systems using concrete-suction-type supporting structures are investigated. Applying hydrodynamic pressure from the surrounding sea water and interaction forces from the underlying soil to the structural system which is composed of RNA, the tower, and the supporting structure, a governing equation of the system is derived and its earthquake responses are obtained. It can be observed from the analysis results that the responses are significantly influenced by soil-structure interaction because dynamic responses for higher natural vibration modes are increased due to the flexibility of soil. Therefore, the soil-structure interaction must be taken into consideration for accurate assessment of dynamic behaviors of offshore wind turbine systems using concrete-suction-type supporting structures.

Performance Improvement of Connected Digit Recognition by Considering Phonemic Variations in Korean Digit and Speaking Styles (한국어 숫자음의 음운변화 및 화자 발성특성을 고려한 연결숫자 인식의 성능향상)

  • Each Korean digit is composed of only a syllable, so recognizers as well as Korean often have difficulty in recognizing it. When digit strings are pronounced, the original pronunciation of each digit is largely changed due to the co-articulation effect. In addition to these problems, the distortion caused by various channels and noises degrades the recognition performance of Korean connected digit string. This paper dealt with some techniques to improve recognition performance of it, which include defining a set of PLUs by considering phonemic variations in Korean digit and constructing a recognizer to handle speakers various speaking styles. In the speaker-independent connected digit recognition experiments using telephone speech, the proposed techniques with 1-Gaussian/state gave string accuracy of 83.2%, i. e., 7.2% error rate reduction relative to baseline system. With 11-Gaussians/state, we achieved the highest string accuracy of 91.8%, i. e., 4.7% error rate reduction.

A Study on Traditional Art Expression in Chinese Myth Martial MMORPG Character Design (중국 신화 무협 MMORPG 캐릭터 디자인에서 전통예술 표현에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of traditional art expressions in recent Chinese online games, which are now most popular in Chinese game market. Designing the MMORPG game character reflecting users' psychological preferences for aesthetic characteristic of the traditional Chinese culture allows the users to feel more visual satisfaction while they are enjoying a game. The selected characters for this analysis were chosen from the traditional myth chivalry game to utilize the traditional art expressions that are peculiar in Chinese MMORPG. The analysis was conducted within the context of an ideal character figure and operation, and social nature reflecting a personal user. This analysis suggested the representation technique reflecting traditional clothing, color, and life style, and the reconstruction of subject matter, and the development of the characteristics of ideal group character. Even though Chinese MMORPG history is short, this study will help the user understand more effectively the identity of the myth martial MMORPG game in connection with the Chinese traditional culture and art. And this study will also increase the user's satisfaction of the Chinese online-game.

  • In conventional game systems, virtual environments usually have just the role of a background without the direct relationships for game characters. nev do not consider the semantics about virtual environments. In this paper, we develop a game navigation system that provides semantic information about virtual environments including geographical, historical or my other location-dependent information. Then, the game character obtains the geographical location and its related information when it navigates through a virtual environment. It can be an implementation method for a semantic virtual environment because it can have the environment maintain its semantics depending on the specific location. In addition, we describe a method that can control a character's motion in the semantic virtual environment interactively, and that can input specific information according to the location of the character.
