(1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$ 무연 압전세라믹스의 첨가물질에 따른 전기적 특성 평가

  • 강유전성 세라믹스 재료로써는 PZT계열의 세라믹재료가 널리 쓰이고 있다. 이는 우수한 유전 및 압전특성을 가지고 있으나, PbO을 다량 함유하고 있어 $1000^{\circ}C$이상에서 PbO가 급격하게 휘발되는 성질에 따라서 조성의 변동이 생겨 재현성이 어려우며 이를 방지하기 위하여 과잉 PbO를 첨가시키기 때문에 PbO휘발로 인한 강한 독성이 인체에 유해하다. 최근에는 Pb의 환경문제가 대두됨에 따라 이를 대체할 다른 물질의 개발이 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 대표적인 비납계 강유전 세라믹스인 $(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ ($d_{33}$ = 120 pC/N, Kp = 39%, Qm = 210, 이하 NKN라 표기) 조성은 $KNbO_3,\;NaNbO_3$ 상태도에 따라 순수한 NKN 세라믹스는 $1140^{\circ}C$에서 안정상을 가지나, 높은 온도로 인하여$Na_2O$$K_2O$가 쉽게 휘발됨에 따라 화학량 비의 변화가 생겨 이차 상을 형성하기도 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 $LiNbO_3$의 새로운 고용체를 추가시켜 기본 NKN조성에 압전성 및 고온에서의 상안정성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 최적 조성을 설계하기 위하여 (1-x)$(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-xLiNbO_3$, x=(0,0.02,0.04,0.06,0.08)의 범위에서 조성을 변화시키면서 실험하였다. 시편 제작은 일반적인 세라믹스 소결 공정을 적용하였는데, $850^{\circ}C$에서 5시간 하소 후 $1080^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 소결하였다. 하소 및 소결 후에는 XRD분석을 통해 perovskite구조를 확인하였고, 미세구조 확인을 위해 주사전자현미경 (SEM)으로 관찰하였다. 압전특성을 평가하기 위해 압전 $d_{33}$-meter를 사용하였으며, impedance analyzer (HP 4194A)를 이용하여 전기적 특성을 측정하였다.

Process Design and Economic Evaluation of Condensate Recycling Process for Steam Consumption Reduction (스팀 사용 저감을 위한 응축수 재활용 공정설계 및 경제성 평가)

  • This study focused on the epoxy resin production process, which uses the steam of 155 ℃ or higher as a heat source, and discards all condensate generated. A part of the process is operated at low temperatures of 70 ℃ or below, thus there are opportunities to reduce the steam consumption by recycling wasted condensate as a heat source for the low temperature section of process. In this study, we developed process models that can reduce steam by recovering waste heat through recycling condensate and conducted a case study to find an optimal condensate recycling system. Three different process designs were proposed and economic evaluations were performed by comparing annual capital costs and steam savings in each case. Finally, an annual steam consumption of the low-temperature section could be reduced by up to 67.6%, which could also bring an additional economic benefit of 522.1 million won/yr.

Determination of Dynamic Modulus of cold In-place Recycling Mixtures with Foamed Asphalt (폼드아스팔트를 이용한 현장 상온 재생 아스팔트 혼합물의 동탄성계수 결정)

  • A new mix design procedure for cold in-place recycling using foamed asphalt (CIR-foam) has been developed for Iowa Department of Transportation. Some strengths and weaknesses of the new mix design parameters were considered and modified to improve the laboratory test procedure. Based on the critical mixture parameters identified, a new mix design procedure was developed and validated to establish the properties of the CIR-foam mixtures. As part of the validation effort to evaluate a new CIR-foam mix design procedure, dynamic moduli of CIR-foam mixtures made of seven different reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) materials collected throughout the state of Iowa were measured and their master curves were constructed. The main objectives of this study are to provide: 1) standardized testing procedure for measuring the dynamic modulus of CIR-foam mixtures using new simple performance testing (SPT) equipment; 2) analysis procedure for constructing the master curves for a wide range of RAP materials; and 3) impacts of RAP material characteristics on the dynamic modulus. Dynamic moduli were measured at three different temperatures and six different loading frequencies and they were consistent among different RAP sources. Master curves were then constructed for the CIR-foam mixtures using seven different RAP materials. Based upon the observation of the constructed master curves, dynamic moduli of CIR-foam mixtures were less sensitive to the loading frequencies than HMA mixtures. It can be concluded that at the low temperature, the dynamic modulus is affected by the amount of fines in the RAP materials whereas, at the high temperature, the dynamic modulus is influenced by the residual binder characteristics.

A Study on the Diffuser Design of Exhaust Pipes for the Infra-Red Signature Reduction of Naval Ship (함정 적외선 신호 감소를 위한 폐기관의 디퓨져 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In modern naval ships, an infrared signature suppression (IRSS) system is used to reduce the metal surface temperature of the heated exhaust pipe and high-temperature exhaust gases generated from the propulsion system. Generally, the IRSS systems used in Korean naval ships consist of an eductor, mixing tube, and diffuser. The diffuser reduces the temperature of the metal surface by creating an air film due to a pressure difference between the internal gas and the external air. In this study, design variables were selected by analyzing the shapes of a diffuser designed by an advanced overseas engineering company. The characteristics of the design variables that affect the performance of the IRSS were investigated through the Taguchi experimental method. A heat flow analysis technique for IRSS systems established in previous studies was used analyze the performance of the diffuser. The performance evaluation was based on the area-averaged value of the metal surface temperature and exhaust gas temperature at the outlet of the diffuser, which are directly related to the intensity of the infrared signature. The results show that the temperature of the exhaust gas was significantly affected by changes in the diameter of the diffuser outlet, and the temperature of the diffuser's metal surface was significantly affected by changes in the number of diffuser rings.

Process Design of Carbon Dioxide Storage in the Marine Geological Structure: I. Comparative Analysis of Thermodynamic Equations of State using Numerical Calculation (이산화탄소 해양지중저장 처리를 위한 공정 설계: I. 수치계산을 통한 열역학 상태방정식의 비교 분석)

  • To response climate change and Kyoto protocol and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, marine geological storage of $CO_2$ is regarded as one of the most promising option. Marine geological storage of $CO_2$ is to capture $CO_2$ from major point sources(eg. power plant), to transport to the storage sites and to store $CO_2$ into the marine geological structure such as deep sea saline aquifer. To design a reliable $CO_2$ marine geological storage system, it is necessary to perform numerical process simulation using thermodynamic equation of state. The purpose of this paper is to compare and analyse the relevant equations of state including ideal, BWRS, PR, PRBM and SRK equation of state. To evaluate the predictive accuracy of the equation of the state, we compared numerical calculation results with reference experimental data. Ideal and SRK equation of state did not predict the density behavior above $29.85^{\circ}C$, 60 bar. Especially, they showed maximum 100% error in supercritical state. BWRS equation of state did not predict the density behavior between $60{\sim}80\;bar$ and near critical temperature. On the other hand, PR and PRBM equation of state showed good predictive capability in supercritical state. Since the thermodynamic conditions of $CO_2$ reservoir sites correspond to supercritical state(above $31.1^{\circ}C$ and 73.9 bar), we conclude that it is recommended to use PR and PRBM equation of state in designing of $CO_2$ marine geological storage process.

Thermal Properties of Buffer Material for a High-Level Waste Repository Considering Temperature Variation (고준위폐기물 처분시설 완충재의 온도변화에 따른 열물성)

  • The buffer is one of the major components of an engineered barrier system (EBS) for the disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW). As the buffer is located between a disposal canister and host rock, it is indispensable to assure the disposal safety of high-level radioactive waste. It can restrain the release of radionuclide and protect the canister from the inflow of groundwater. Since high quantity of heat from a disposal canister is released to the surrounding buffer, thermal properties of the buffer are very important parameters for the analysis of the entire disposal safety. Especially, temperature criteria of the compacted bentonite buffer can affect the design of HLW repository facility. Therefore, this paper investigated thermal properties for the Kyungju compacted bentonite buffer which is the only bentonite produced in South Korea. Hot wire method and dual probe method were used to measure thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of the compacted bentonite buffer according to the temperature variation. Thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity were decreased dramatically when temperature variation was between $22^{\circ}C{\sim}110^{\circ}C$ as degree of saturation decreased according to the temperature variation. However, there was little variation under the high temperature condition at $110^{\circ}C{\sim}150^{\circ}C$.

  • The CM247LC, a Ni-based superalloy material used for gas turbine hot gas path parts, is casted using directionally solidified technology to analyze the mechanical properties and microstructures through HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) and post-heat treatment, and to derive optimal HIP treatment conditions. The CM247LC material is being researched in various ways as an alternative material for prototyping gas turbine blades. In particular, the blade rotating part is exposed and operated in a high temperature and high-pressure environment, and when damaged, it may cause huge economic losses. Therefore, in order to use the CM247LC material as prototyping materials for gas turbine blades, the reliability of the microstructure and mechanical properties must be verified. In this study, after casting rod test specimens using CM247LC material by directionally solidified technology, after that the specimens were performed by HIP treatment and post-heat treatment to test two HIP conditions designed by KEPCO to derive the possibility of prototyping of CM247LC material and optimization of HIP treatment conditions. Additionally, the properties of CM247LC material were compared to the GTD111DS material using for 1,300℃ class gas turbine blades.

Analysis on Pool Temperature Variation along Pool Water Management System Operation in Research Reactor (연구용원자로에서 수조수관리계통 운전에 따른 수조수 온도 해석)

  • The domestic unique research reactor, HANARO (Hi-flux Advanced Neutron Application ReactOr), has been constructed with the open-pool, the core is submerged in, for the multi-purpose neutron application. The reactor has a primary cooling system to remove the fission heat from the core and its connected fluidic systems. Since the works are required at the reactor pool top as a characteristic of the research reactor, the radiation shall be minimized with the operation of the hot water layer system to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure on the workers during work at the pool top. Moreover, the pool water management system is connected to the reactor pool to maintain the pool temperature below $50^{\circ}C$ to minimize the uprising radioactive gas or impurity from the colder pool bottom. For the efficient flow rate of the PWMS, the thermal capacity of heat exchanger is selected with 260 kW in the normal operation condition. In this paper, the modeling is formulated to figure out whether or not each pool temperature maintains below the temperature limit and the calculation results show that the designed PWMS heat exchanger has enough capacity with the design margin regardless of the reactor operation mode.

Development of a compact fuel processor for building fuel cells (건물용 연료전지를 위한 컴팩트 연료개질기 개발)

  • 연료개질기는 연료전지 시스템의 핵심 구성요소 중의 하나로 도시가스로부터 수소를 생산하는 역할을 담당한다. 연료개질기는 주로 탈황, 수증기 개질, 수성가스 전이, 선택적 산화 반응의 4단계로 구성되어 있으며 이 중 상온 탈황부분을 제외한 나머지 부분은 일체화 설계를 통해 제작된다. 탈황의 경우 도시가스에 포함된 부취제인 황화합물를 제거하여 후단에 위치한 촉매층이 황에 의해 피독되는 것을 막는 역할을 하며 주로 상온흡착식 탈황제를 사용한다. 황이 제거된 도시가스는 물과 함께 연료개질기로 도입되어 수증기 개질반응을 통하여 수소, 일산화탄소, 이산화탄소 및 소량의 메탄과 미반응 수증기로 구성된 개질가스로 전환된다. 이후의 수성가스 전이반응에서는 일산화탄소가 물과 반응하여 수소 생산량을 늘리며 동시에 일산화탄소의 농도를 낮추게 된다. 또한 고분자 전해질 연료전지에 공급되는 개질가스는 선택적 산화반응을 통하여 일산화탄소의 농도를 10ppm이하로 유지하게 된다. 이러한 기능의 연료개질기 개발의 주요 이슈로는 컴팩트화 및 고효율화이며 이 두가지 요소를 고려하여 연료개질기를 설계하여야 한다. 연료전지 시스템의 전체부피를 줄이기 위한 노력의 일환으로 연료개질기의 컴팩트화가 요구되는데 가정용 연료전지 기술 선진국인 일본 제품의 경우 $1Nm^3/h$급 연료개질기의 부피는 20L정도로 알려져 있다. 또한 연료전지 시스템의 효율은 연료개질기의 개질효율과 연료전지 스택의 발전효율의 곱으로 계산되기 때문에 연료개질기의 연료개질 효율은 전체 시스템의 효율에 직접적으로 영향을 미치게 된다. 한국에너지기술연구원에서는 수소생산량 기준 $1Nm^3/h$급 연료개질기의 개발을 완료하였으며 크기 및 효율면에서 선진국 제품과 비교하여 동등 또는 우위의 수준을 달성하였다. 연료개질기 내부의 혼합 및 분배 구조를 개선하고 각 촉매층의 최적 배치를 통해 연료개질기의 부피를 최소화 하였으며 연료개질기 내부에서 고온부위와 저온부위 사이의 최적 열교환을 통해 열효율을 극대화 시켰다. 현재 개발된 $1Nm^3/h$급 개질기의 단열 후 부피는 13.5L 그리고 단독운전 시 열효율은 80%(LHV)로 측정되었다. 또한 $1Nm^3/h$급의 연료개질기의 스케일-업 설계를 통하여 수소생산량 3, $5Nm^3/h$ 규모의 연료개질기를 개발하였으며 성능평가가 진행 중이다.

Model - Based Sensor Fault Detection and Isolation for a Fuel Cell in an Automotive Application (모델 기반 연료전지 스택 온도 센서 고장 감지 및 판별)

  • In this study, an effective model-based sensor fault detection methodology that can detect and isolate PEM temperature sensors fault is introduced. In fuel cell vehicle operation process, the stack temperature affects durability of a fuel cell. Thus, it is important for fault algorithm to detect the fault signals. The major objective of sensor fault detection is to guarantee the healthy operations of the fuel cell system and to prevent the stack from high temperature and low temperature. For the residual implementation, parity equation based on the state space is used to detect the sensors fault as stack temperature and coolant inlet temperature, and residual is compared with the healthy temperature signals. Then the residuals are evaluated by various fault scenarios that detect the presence of the sensor fault. In the result, the designed in this study fault algorithm can detect the fault signal.
