Roasting may lead to the formation of undesired compounds, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). In this study, green coffee beans were roasted under controlled conditions and the formation of PAHs during the roasting process was monitored. Roasting was performed in a hot air roaster, with an inlet air temperature varying from 150 to $250^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, and 20 min. The PAH content of the roasted coffee was then evaluated by HPLC-FLD. The levels of total PAHs in Arabica (Colombia, Brazil) and Robusta (India) coffee samples were 1.26-215.07, 1.85-178.14, and 0.18-2.61 ${\mu}g$/kg, respectively.
Addition effects of free fatty acids (FFA), glycerol, monoacylglycerol (MAG), sesamol, and aqueous extracts of sesame seed meal (ASM) on the changes of sesamol and sesamolin were determined in thermally oxidized sesame oil (SO) at 180$^{\circ}C$ for 90 min. Sesamol and sesamolin in SO were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). As the concentration of FFA and MAG in SO increased up to 10% (w/w), the concentration of sesamol increased significantly by 0.94 and 0.70 mM, respectively (p < 0.05) whereas sesamol in control samples increased by 0.09 mM for 90 min oxidation. Sesamolin in 10% MAG and FFA added SO significantly decreased by 15 and 18%, respectively (p < 0.05) compared to control samples. Sesamolin in SO with addition of 1.5 and 2.5 mM sesamol were not significantly different (p > 0.05). Addition effects of ASM on the changes of sesamol and sesamolin in SO were not constant during thermal treatment. Conversion of sesamol from sesamolin in SO during thermal treatment seemed to be influenced by the presence of FFA and MAG.
A review is presented of experimental studies on the strength performance of concrete exposed at short-term and rapid heating as in a fire and after cooling. Emphasis is placed on concretes with high original compressive strengths, that is, high-strength concrete(HSC). The compressive strength-temperature relationships from the reviewed test programs are distinguished by the test methods used in obtaining the data(unstressed, unstressed residual strength, and stressed tests) and by the aggregate types(normal or lightweight), The compressive strength properties of HSC vary differently with temperature than those of NSC. HSC have higher rates of strength loss than lower strength concrete in the temperature range of between 20$^{\circ}C$ to about 400$^{\circ}C$. These difference become less significant at temperatures above 400$^{\circ}C$ compressive strengths of HSC at 800$^{\circ}C$ decrease to about 30 % of the original room temperature strength. A comparison of lest results with current code provisions on the effects of elevated temperatures on concrete compressive strength and elastic modulus shows that the CEN Eurocodes and the CEB provisions are unconservative.

A direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) generates electricity directly by converting the chemical energy in coal. In particular, a DCFC system with a solid oxide electrolyte and molten carbonate anode media has been proposed by SRI. In this system, however, there are conflicting effects of temperature, which enhances the ion conductivity of the solid electrolyte and reactivity at the electrodes while causing a stability problem for the anode media. In this study, the effect of temperature on the stability of a carbon-carbonate mixture was investigated experimentally. TGA analysis was conducted under either nitrogen or carbon dioxide ambient for $Li_2CO_3$, $K_2CO_3$, and their mixtures with carbon black. The composition of the exit gas was also monitored during temperature elevation. A simplified reaction model was suggested by considering the decomposition of carbonates and the catalyzed Boudouard reactions. The suggested model could well explain both the measured weight loss of the mixture and the gas formation from it.

Periodical thermal shock can introduce defects in thermal barrier coating made by layers of CoNiCrAlY bond coating(BC) and $ZrO_2-8wt%Y_2O_3$ ceramic top coating(TC) on Inconel-738 substrate using plasma spraying. Thermal shock test is performed by severe condition that is to heat until $1000^{\circ}C$ and cool until $20^{\circ}C$. As the number of cycle is increased, the fatigue by thermal shock is also increased. After test, the micro-structures and mechanical characteristics of thermal barrier coating were investigated by SEM, XRD. The TGO layer of $Al_2O_3$ is formed between BC and TC by periodical thermal shock test, and its change in thickness is inspected by eddy current test(ECT). By ECT test, it is shown that TGO and micro-crack can be detected and it is possible to predict the life of thermal barrier coating.

The objective of this research is to develop the coating technique by a porous self-fluxing alloy for improving the mechanical properties of run-out table roller surface with the hot rolling. To enhance the durability of run-out table roller with the hot rolling, the high hardness of roller surface should be maintained at high temperatures, and the improvement of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, burn resistance and adhesion resistance should be maintained. In order to be able to transport reliably a hot rolled steel sheet, also, the appropriate friction coefficient on the roller surface should be maintained and the slip between roller and steel should not occur. In this study, the wear resistance of roller increases after the self-fluxing alloy is changed to a cermet by adding the tungsten carbide(WC), and the coefficient of friction increases and the ability of grip is improved because the porosities are made by coating with fine iron powder on the roller surface. As a result, it is found that the ability of grip between the steel and the roller coated by a porous self-fluxing alloy contained to 5 ~ 10 wt% of Fe in the coating layer is improved compared to the roller coated by Ni-Cr. This is because the porosities are made after Fe contained in the roller is partially alloyed by heating with a furnace in the fusing process and the rest is eliminated by oxidation and dissolution.
The Dongrae thermal water area located at the southeastern marginal part of the Korean Peninsula is one of the oldest hot springs in Korea. The Dongrae thermal water shows Na-Cl type of water chemistry, whereas the shallow cold groundwater is Ca(-Na)-$HCO_3$ type. In this paper, we discuss the age of the Dongrae hot spring, i.e. groundwater cycle among meteoric water-surface water-shallow groundwater-hot spring water. The $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratios of the thermal water in Dongrae area range from 0.705663 to 0.705688 and are lower than those of groundwater, surface water and rain water as well as aquifer bearing granite. These Sr isotopic signatures in the Dongrae thermal water indicate that the circulation rate between thermal water and current meteoric water including groundwater, surface water and rain water in the Dongrae area should be very slow. The $^{14}C$ age of the Dongrae hot spring water range from $1,271{\pm}36$ BP(before present) to $2,467{\pm}36$ BP whereas that of the shallow groundwater is $-495{\pm}33$ BP. This suggests that the period of groundwater cycle among meteoric water, surface water, shallow groundwater and hot spring should be more than 1,270 years. Then, it also indicates that the present Dongrae hot spring may be a mixed water between the old thermal water heated for at least 1,270 years and the present shallow cold groundwater.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sealing effect of warm lateral condensation technique by Endotec spreader, comparing with other canal filling techniques. One hundred and forty extracted human teeth with single canal were instrumented and randomly divided into four groups according to canal filling techniques including lateral condensation with sealer, warm lateral condensation with sealer, warm lateral condensation without sealer, and injection-molded thermoplasticized gutta-percha without sealer. Obturated canals were exposed to 2 % methylene blue solution at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and measurement of the degree of microleakage was done linearly and volumetrically with stereozoom microscope and UV-spectrophotometer respectively. The results were as follows ; When sealer was used, the canals obturated by warm lateral condensation showed less leakage linearly and volumetrically than the canals obturated by standard lateral condensation with no statistically significant difference. The obturated canals by warm lateral condensation with sealer showed less leakage linearly and volumetrically than the canals obturated by warm lateral condensation without sealer and by injection-molded thermoplasticized gutta-percha without sealer with statistical significance (p<0.05). No statistical difference revealed that the group filled with the use of the Endotec had significantly less leakage than any of the other groups. There was a significant correlation between the linear measurement and volumetric measurement(r=0.4459, p<0.05).

Superconducting fiber of high Tc $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\sigma}}$ was successfully prepared by the sol-gel method. The stoichiometric mixture of Y, Ba and Cu nitrates was dissolved in water, to which citric acid solution was added. Then ammonium hydroxide was added to the mixture in order to increase the pH to a value between 5.8 and 6.2. The mixture was heated carefully to form a homogeneous colloid sol at 358 K. The solution was viscous enough to draw a long gel fiber, which was then heated at 1223K for 8 hrs. under oxygen partial pressure of $Po_2$ = 1 atm., cooled slowly and annealed at 723K for 13 hrs.. The reacted superconducting sample maintained a fiber form with some shrinkage of its volume. The superconducting transition temperatures (Tc, onset and Tc, offset) of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\sigma}}$ have been determined to be approximately 95K and 82K, respectively. The superconducting phase was also confirmed by Meissner effect at liquid nitrogen boiling temperature.
Water wall tube is one of the major factors consisting of a fluidized bed boiler and it plays very important role for the generation of electricity within the boiler. But these water wall tubes within the fluidized bed boiler are subject to the ware and corrosion caused by the high temperature gas and the flowing medium. If water leak is occurred, the secondary damage by the water leak will occur. As a result of that, the power generation efficiency decreases noticeably. Therefore, the maintenance of the water wall tube is very important. In this study, we designed a exciter sensor based on simulation and composed a remote field eddy current system for the defect evaluation of the outer water wall tube. Starting from the shape design of exciter, we conducted simulations for various design factors such as the water wall tube size, material, frequency, lift-off and so on. Based on the results, we designed the optimum exciter sensor for the water wall tube test within the fluidized bed boiler.
