The efficiencies of four different solid absorbents were evaluated for the simultaneous solid-phase extraction of six ${\beta}$-blockers from biological sample. Chromosorb 107 using methanol as the eluting solvent gave the highest solid-phase extraction yield. From the breakthrough studies of ${\beta}$-blockers, the excellent sorption and desorption properties of the Chromosorb 107 column were verified. The usefulness of Chromosorb 107/methanol was examined for the simultaneous solid-phase extraction of the ${\beta}$-blockers from serum in the concentration range of 2~8ppm.

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was investigated to understand the BTEX extraction behavior of SPME in groundwater. Analytical procedure was conducted In both conventional and headspace mode. And the conventional direct extraction method and the headspace analysis method were compared. Data obtained with direct and headspace SPME were very similar and showed successful results. In headspace analysis, the linearity was better and RSD (relative standard deviation, %) was smaller than direct extraction.
The sorption and desorption properties of four different solid adsorbents were evaluated for the trace enrichment of ibuprofen from biological samples. Chromosorb 107 gave the highest dynamic adsorption coefficient. Among the organic solvents examined, acetone gave the highest desorption coefficient. Using the Chromosorb 107 column, the optimum elution volume of the eluting solvent was evaluated from the breakthrough curve of ibuprofen. The usefulness of Chromosorb 107 as the solid adsorbent and acetone as the eluting solvent was examined for the solid-phase extraction of ibuprofen from serum in the concentration range of $20{\sim}40\;{\mu}g/ml$.

The sorption and desorption properties of four adsorbents were evaluated for the trace enrichment of clobazam from biological samples. Graphitized carbon black(GCB) gaved the highest dynamic adsorption coefficient. Among the six organic solvents examined, acetone gave the highest desorption coefficient for the clobazam adsorbed on GCB. Using the GCB column, the optimum elution volume of the eluting solvent was evaluated from the on-line monitored breakthrough curve for clobazam. When GCB as the solid adsorbent and acetone as the eluting solvent were used for the solidphase extraction of clobazam from serum, the recoveries were higher than 83% with good reproducibility in the concentration range of 20-50 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml.
Ths sorption and desorption properties of four different solid adsorbents were evaluated for the trace enrichment of diphenylhydantoin from biological samples. Graphitized carbon black(GCB) gave the highest adsorption coefficient. And among the organic solvents examined, methanol gave the highest desorption coefficient. Using the GCB column, the optimum elution volume of the eluting solvent was evaluated from the breakthrough curve of diphenylhydantoin. The usefulness of GCB as the solid adsorbent was examined for the solid-phase extraction of diphenylhydantoin from serum in the concentration range of $20-50\;{\mu}g/ml$.

Halonitromethanes (HNMs) are one of the most toxic groups of disinfection by-products. Recently, various studies have been fulfilled. An automated headspace-solid phase microextraction (SPME) gas chromatography/electron capture detector (GC-ECD) technique was developed for routine analysis of 9 HNMs in water samples. The optimization of the method is discussed. The limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) range from 90 ng/L to 260 ng/L and from 270 ng/L to 840 ng/L for 9 HNMs, respectively. Matrix effects in tap water and sea water were investigated and it was shown that the method is suitable for the analysis of trace levels of HNMs, in a wide range of waters. The method developed in the present study has the advantage of being rapid, simple and sensitive.

A rapid gas chromatographic profiling method for the simultaneous analysis of free fatty and other acids was applied to vegetable oils. Oil samples were dissolved in dichloromethane and the free acids were extracted with saturated $NaHCO_3$ solution. The aqueous extract was acidified and then loaded onto the Chromosorb P column for the extraction. The acids were eluted with diethyl ether selectively from Chromosorb P column and were treated with triethylamine to prevent the losses of volatile acids. Several long chain fatty acids were detected from soybean oil, rice-bran oil, sesame oil and perilla oil. Various organic acids including odd number fatty acids were detected in crude oil, especially sesame oil. Arachidic acid from perilla oil and vanillic acid from sesame oil, which were not reported before were detected. The content ratio of free linoleic acid to oleic acid was $1.02{\sim}1.18$, which was similar to the reported data. When the GC profile of organic acids were simplified to their corresponding retention index spectra of bar graphical forms, they presented characteristic pattern of each vegetable oil that can be quickly recognized.
This study was carried out to find the possibility of use of Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) for extracting the volatile aroma compounds in the five aromatic plants (Agastache rugosa O. Kuntze, Mentha arvensis Linne, Thymus quinquecostatus Celakovsky, Elsholtzia splendens Nakai, Schizonepta tenuifolia Briquet) belongs to the Labiatae. In the result of the analysis, the volatile aroma compounds were mainly composed monoterpene alcohol (linanol, menthol, ${\alpha}-terpineol$, borneol), monoterpene ketone (limonene, menthone) and sesquiterpene (trans-caryophyllene,${\delta}-cadinene)$. The volatile aroma compounds of Agastache rugosa O. Kuntze and Mentha arvensis Linne were extracted by SPME more identified than the SDE. However, Schizonepta tenuifolia Briquet more identified by the SDE and in Elsholtzia splendens Nakai similar to the SDE. Especially, the SPME showed the sesquiterpene contents was more than the SDE. The major volatile aroma compounds were difference but the composition of those between the SPME and the SDE showed no difference. Within the results, the SPME showed the most convenient and a rapid extraction method to analysis of the volatile aroma compounds.
SPME deuce was applied to determine the THM in an aqueous solution. The 6 kinds of THM was quantitatively detenuned by using GC-ECD which has the sample eutracted on the SPME fiber from an aqueous solution for 10 min. The THM components were well separated from $CHCl_3$ to the last $CHBr_3$ UHh 13 mons at the condition. 6 kinds of the volatile halogenated organic compounds: $CHCl_3$, $CHBrCl_2$, $CHBrtCl_2$, $CHCl_3$, $C_2Cl$. and $CHBr_3$, showed well defirled calibration graph with good llnearlty from a few ppb level up to several tens of pub concentration. $CHBr_2Cl$ and $C_2C1_4$ were detected from a few samples among the 10 of river samples. CHCl3, however, was detected In 4 sea water samples with the highest of 10 ppd among the pouuted 6 positions. Trace level of $CHBr_2Cl$ and few pub level of $CHBr_3$ were also detected at the other two sample stations. Most of the 13 rain water samples collected from 6 sampling stations were contained ppd level of $CHCl_3$, and also $CHBr_2Cl$, and C_2Cl_4$ were only detected at trace level at a few rain samples among them. We could recognize the fact that our Ut and water enoronment has already been contaminated by certain volatile halogenated organic compounds through this study.
