교사양성대학 수학교육과 '미분방정식' 강좌 운영 -교육과정 및 교수학습 방법개발과 관련한-

  • 물리학, 공학, 경제학, 생물학, 생태학 등의 자연현상, 사회 현상 그리고 심리상황 등과 관련된 내용들의 모델링 과정을 거쳐 나온 미분방정식의 해를 구하고 해의 의미를 파악하는 작업은 바로 우리의 생활의 진면목을 직접 확인하는 것과 같다. 모델링 과정의 효율성은 교사와 학생간의 충분한 수학적 대화속에서 더욱 의미가 커질 것이다. 아울러 학생들에게 미분방정식의 해의 실제적인 의미를 상상하게 하고 그 결과를 발표하게 하는 것과 해를 구하는 과정에 관한 이론의 이해를 돕는 것이 바람직한 학습 지도 방법이 될 것이다. 전 교육과정을 통해 미분방정식의 모델링 과정을 소개하면서 해의 존재성, 해의 유일성, 해법, 해의 의미 등의 학습 및 지도를 학습자 중심으로 운영할 필요가 있다.

Effects of Classroom Peers on Test Scores: Evidence from the College Scholastic Ability Test of year 1995 (대입수학능력시험 성적 자료를 이용한 학급 내 동료 효과의 분석)

  • Using the College Scholastic Ability Test of year 1995, the paper investigates effects of classroom peers on a student's test scores. It exploits exogenous assignment of students across different classrooms within a school under the leveling policy in 1990s. The empirical results reveal strong impacts of peers on individual students. Negative effects of low-performing peers exceed positive effects of high-performing peers. Such a structure of peer interactions has important implications for ability grouping vs. mixing debates in Korea.

Content analysis of education for sustainable development in elementary school mathematics textbooks (초등학교 수학 교과서에서의 지속가능발전 내용 분석)

  • Education for Sustainable Development is an imperative mean to achieve the sustainable development which is the key idea that meets the needs of both present and succeeding generations by reconciling environmental protection, social development and economic growth. This study addressed the following question. First, what is the overall structure of the ESD contents presented in the textbooks? Second, How are the sub-contents of ESD distributed in the textbooks? Lastly, How are the ESD contents connected to mathematics in the textbooks? For this purpose, the contents in the elemtentary mathematics textbooks from 1st to 6th grades were analyzed at both macro and micro levels through quantitative and qualitative research methods. As results, contents related to environmental, social, and economic dimensions were presented from the first grade. The contents were involved the mathematics content domains of Numbers and Operations, Data and Possibilities, and Patterns. However, the contents were presented intensively in middle and high grades, and environmental topics accounted for a high proportion. Among the activities related to ESD, many were focused on solving problems mathematically while some were presented to solve problems as well as to consider sustainability through the activities. Based on the results, the study aims to provide implications for the direction of mathematics education for sustainable development in elementary school.

Case Study on self-directed learning of mathematics using EBS contents for students at Child care centers (지역아동센터학생 대상 EBS 동영상을 활용한 자기 주도적 수학학습 사례 연구)

  • This study is to find out a way to foster self-directed learning math skills for the low-income youth at child care centers. Taking advantage of EBS materials, we found the youth, low-income youth in particular, were positively influenced to learn mathematics in the way of self-directed and action learning. This program gives a model of the self-directed math learning using the EBS mathematics materials. From the survey of this study, we found see that students started to have a positive attitude for learning and they started to gain new mathematical concept, and improved their problem solving, reasoning, communication and representation skills with these new leaning environments. This study tells us that this type of cooperative learning could help them to have an objective assessment, and gave a positive impact on self-directed learning.

The Effect of Educational Contextual Variables on Fourth Grade Students' Mathematics Achievement in East Asian Countries (초등학생 수학 성취도에 영향을 미치는 교육맥락변인에 대한 동아시아 5개국 비교)

  • This study analyzed the effects of the educational contextual variables on fourth grade students' mathematics achievement in five East Asian countries(Singapore, Hong Kong Taiwan, Japan and Korea) using TIMSS 2015 data. There are four findings of this study. The first is that the common student-home-level variables that give significant influence on the mathematics achievement in all 5 countries are 'Home resources for learning' and 'Parents' educational expectations'. But 'Literacy and numeracy activities before entering a school' and 'Parents' attitude for mathematics and science' are not common variables. The second is that 'Students' interest in math learning' gave significant influence on the mathematics achievement of in all 5 countries. The third is that 'Teaching limited by student needs' does not give significant influence on the math achievement in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan but in Singapore and Hong Kong. The fourth is that 'Student economic background' gave more significant influence in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan than Singapore and Hong Kong. Suggestions to improve elementary school mathematics teaching and learning are discussed in the conclusion.

  • 화물 수송은 상품의 생산과 소비에 직결되어 있으며 원활한 화물 수송이 경제에 미치는 영향이 크므로 그 중요성이 날로 증대되고 있다. 우리 나라는 그 동인 지속적 경제 성장으로 인한 경제 규모가 확대되면서 화물 수송에 대한 수요가 급격히 증가하였다. 이러한 화물 수송 수요의 증가 추세에 비해 물류 단지의 확충에 위한 적절한 투자 및 정책 등이 결여되어 왔다. 그러므로, 경제 및 산업발전에 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있는 물류 단지를 파악하고 물류 단지 입지 결정 모형을 개발하고, 이 모형을 토대로 적정 입지를 결정하고자 한다. 물류 단지 입지에 관한 문제의 주요 관심 대상은 수송비용을 최소화하면서, 원하는 목적지까지의 빠른 수·배송을 이루어지게 하는 효율적 수송 입지 단지를 찾는데 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 물류 단지의 적정 위치 결정을 위하여 혼합 정수 모형을 이용해서 수송비용과 차량 경로를 고려한 수학적 모형을 개발하고자 한다. 개발된 모형을 공로부문의 수송을 중심으로 경기도 지역의 여러 물류 단지 후보 지역에 적용하고 적정 물류 단지를 찾고자 한다.

코로나19의 백신개발 동향 및 백신비축 규모에 관한 소론

  • 본고는 코로나19라는 글로벌 팬데믹 상황에서 감염병 역학모형에 관한 내용과 기초재생산수, 집단면역임계, 백신비축 등의 주요 개념을 개론 수준에서 다루었다. 국내 첫 감염자 발생 이후 4월 12일까지의 데이터를 기준으로 분석해 볼 때 한국의 기초재생산수는 약 2의 값을 가지는데 이는 코로나19가 발생한 다른 나라에 비해 현저히 낮은 수치로 평가된다. 만일에 코로나19 백신이 개발되는 것을 가정하여 이의 비축규모를 추정해보면 인구의 최소 62%에 공급할 수 있는 수준이어야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 한국의 코로나19의 성공적 대응에는 사회적 거리두기 정책이 주된 요인 중의 하나라는 점도 발견하였다. 그러나 5월 이후 사회적 거리두기에 대한 다소 느슨해진 경향이 없지 않은데, 지역감염의 확산을 위해서는 원론적으로 대응할 필요가 있다. 본고는 학술적 관점이 아닌, 방역의 실무적 차원에서 역학모형, 그리고 경제-역학 모형을 활용하는 방법을 소개한 것 뿐이다. 보다 정교한 역학 모형을 제대로 연구하기 위해서는 상당한 규모의 팀워크가 필요하다. 2015년 메르스 이후 역학조사를 위한 자원이 보강되었다 하지만, 앞으로 역학조사 인력, 데이터 시스템 구축, 그리고 보건·경제·통계·수학 분야 등의 연구진이 보강되어야 할 것이다.

Principles and Methods for Critical Mathematics Education: An Explorative Study of a Program (비판적 수학교육의 원리와 방법 탐색: 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초연구로서)

  • Due to globalization, diversification, and informatization, modern society confronts change and crisis in a variety of areas such as economy, politics, and culture. In that context, mathematics educators seek for how to reform school mathematics for democratic and just society. This research proposes critical mathematics education as an alternative model of school mathematics for democratic society. In particular, this research is an explorative study to construct a model of critical mathematics education program. For the purpose, we conducted a comprehensive literature review to identify goals, contents, and methods of teaching and learning, and method of assessment for critical mathematics education. We checked the validity of the model by using the cases of critical mathematics education. Since this research is explorative in the regard that the model is based on theoretical literatures, further research is necessary to extend the model through design research in school context.

Analyzing Place Location Knowledge Items of the Korean Geography Subject in the College Scholastic Ability Test: Focusing on Human (Economic) Geography (대학수학능력시험 한국지리 과목의 위치정보 문항 출제 경향 연구: 인문(경제)지리 문항을 중심으로)

  • The present research explores the tendency of the items that require Place Location Knowledge (PLK) of the Korean Geography subject in the College Scholastic Ability Test. The major findings are as follows. First, the geographical regions of the items are spatially skewed, especially in the Yeongnam regions, which are tested more frequently compared to the others. Second, the fact-based items more concern with regionality such as geographic indication system and regional festivals. Third, the concept-based items can be divided into physical geography and human geography and there were four items related to economic geography. Fourth, students tend to find it challenging in the items asking PLK. The difficulty varies according to the type of items. The students find concept-based items which require high-order thinking more challenging. There is also differences identified between contents. For example, the section of physical geography, especially climatology-related, were considered the most challenging followed by those of economic geography. Finally, the differences in the rate of correct answer are associated with the scale of the regions covered in the items and students experienced more difficulty in the items asking more precise scale.

A View on Mathematics Education of Israel and Singapore (이스라엘과 싱가포르 수학교육에 대한 소고)

  • The purpose of the present study is to find out some implications from comparing mathematical education of Israel and Singapore. This study examined what values are represented in schooling of both Israel and Singapore and what factors are influencing mathematics teacher education of both countries. Education in Israel and Singapore plays a significant role for the survival of the nation and economic success, and the education system is focused on elitism, especially in terms that they have selective system of students and restrictive exams from the elementary school level. The educational system in both countries provides students with little opportunities for social mobility, because students from the low SES families are not equally exposed to educational facilities and experiences. The results of this study imply that the critical factor affecting students achievement in Israel and Singapore seems to be the quality of teacher education system and the quality of teachers. In particular, it seems that we need to be very careful of uncritically adopting mathematical ideas from both Israel and Singapore, because they both have very different contexts of educational goals, educational policies, racial and cultural factors from Korea.
