  • In block-based lossy video compression, severe quantization causes discontinuities along block boundaries so that annoying blocking artifacts are visible in decoded video images. These blocking artifacts significantly decrease the subjective image quality. In order to reduce the blocking artifacts in decoded images, many algorithms have been proposed. However studies on so called comer outlier, have been very limited. Corner outliers make image edges look disconnected from those of neighboring blocks at cross block boundary. In order to solve this problem we propose a corner outlier detection and compensation algorithm as loop-filtering in spatial domain. Experiment results show that the proposed method provides much improved subjective image quality.

  • A new method is suggested for the solution of plane elasticity problems. With use of the dislocation model in the crack problems, the basic scheme of this method is to find equilibrium Burgers vectors of dislocations which are distributed along the boundary of the first fundamental boundary value problems. The stress distribution in the region can be found by superposition of the contributions of each dislocation. The method is applied to three cases with known analytical solutions, and to a V-notched specimen under uniaxial tension. The numerical results are compared with other available solutions. This method is effective and simple in its use, compared with other numerical methods. The method also provides very accurate solutions in the region except near the boundary where the discretization error is significant. The extrapolation method is suggested for the stresses in the boundary region. Extensive application are also suggested for a general estimate of the computational efficiency of the method.

  • A Siemens HD-270 MLC$^{TM}$, a virtual-micro MLC, allows to the application of a smooth field edge method due to the finite leaf-width of MLC. This technique was implemented into a Pinnacle planning system in order to evaluate the dose distributions during the planning stage. The necessary dosimetric aspects, such as undulation and effective penumbra, were investigated with variations in the resolutions of a virtual-micro MLC and field edge angle. The positional accuracy of the couch movement was also assessed for clinical implementation. The overhead time for planning and treatment was confirmed as negligible.e.

  • The heat transfer analysis applying finite element method has been carried out. Particularly, the convection boundary condition associated with the mixed boundary condition is numerically formulated by the Galerkin method analogous to the magnetic field problem. Also, the coupled electromagnet-thermal field analysis by the proposed heat transfer coefficient computation algorithm is executed to enhance the accuracy of solutions. Finally, the validity of the proposed results is verified by comparison with the measured ones.

  • The design values of rock socketed pile related with properties of rock mass are not clearly established. However, the drilled shafts socketed in rock are widely used as the foundation of large scaled structure. In this study, the characteristics of behavior of rock socketed pile is researched, and the properties of interface between pile and rock considering soil-structure interaction are evaluated for numerical modeling of rock socketed pile based on the previous researches. Based on the properties of interface and rock mass, the behaviors of rock socketed piles are numerically modeled and compared with field measurement. To verify the numerical analysis, a micro pile socketed in rock is modeled and the results of numerical analysis are compared with field measurement. The numerical results show a good agreement with field measured data, especially in terms of load transfer characteristics.

  • In Oriental medicine, the shape of collarette that formed with position in iris of patients often used by health diagnotcian to grasp health condition. In this paper, we present method that effectively extract collarette that exist in Iris image. After proposed method detert iris area using circular edge detector, derides boundary candidate point through radial line search and threshold value establishment. And boundary candidate line is treated to use nearest neighbor calculation at each boundary candidate point, finally extracts collarette through linear interpolation. As a result of experimenting about iris images, We Confirmed that can be used as assistant tool of diagnostic system that can presume state of ventriculus of human body.

  • The sensor response of a piezoelectric transducer embedded in a fluid loaded structure is modeled using a hybrid numerical approach. The structure is excited by an obliquely incident acoustic wave. Finite element modeling in the structure and fluid surrounding the transducer region, is used and a plane wave representation is exploited to match the displacement field at the mathematical boundary. On this boundary, continuity of field derivatives is enforced by using a penalty factor and to further achieve transparency at the mathematical boundary, drilling degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) are introduced to ensure continuity of all derivatives. Numerical results are presented for the sensor response and it is found that the sensor at that location is not only non-intrusive but also sensitive to the characteristic of the structure.

  • The interaction between the cell and the substrate is the most prominent feature affecting the migration of a crawling cell. This paper proposes a three-dimensional dynamic model using the diffuse interface description that reveals the effects of the interaction between a single crawling cell and the substrate during chemotactic migration. To illustrate the effects of interaction between the cell and the substrate, we consider the interfacial energy between the coexistent materials. Multiple mechanisms including the interface energy, chemotaxis effect, and diffusion, are addressed by employing a diffuse interface model.
