An experimental study was carried out to examine the behavior of the unsteady boundary layer. An NACA 0012 airfoil with aspect ratio of 2.7 was set vertically in a test section, which is sinusoidally pitched about the quarter chord. The oscillating amplitude is from -6$^{\circ}$ to +6$^{\circ}$ and the mean angle of attack is 0$^{\circ}$. Surface mounted probes (Glue-on probes) were employed to measure the surface flow of the boundary layer. Measurements were made at free-stream velocities of 1.98, 2.83, and 4.03m/s, and the corresponding Reynolds numbers based on the chord length were 2.3$\times$104, 3.3$\times$104 and 4.8$\times$104, respectively. The reduced frequency is fixed as 0.1 in all cases. The results show that the surface position of minimum shear stress and of boundary layer break-down can be discerned in the Reynolds number between 2.3$\times$104 and 3.3$\times$104.

The Physics of the Plume-induced shock and separation Particularly at a high Plume to exit pressure ratio and supersonic speeds up to Mach 3.0 with and without a passive control method, porous extension, were studied using computational techniques. Mass-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the RNG $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme and a 4-stage Runge-Kutta method. The control methodology for plume-afterbody interactions is to use a perforated wall attached at either the nozzle exit or the edge of the missile base. The Effect of porous wall length on plume interference is also investigated The computational results show the main effect of the porous extension on plume-afterbody interactions is to restrain the plume from strongly underexpanding during a change in flight conditions. With control, a change in porous extension length has no significant effect rut plume interference.
The chaacterisitics of a commercial membrance-coverd electrode in air-saturated saline solution were investigated in terms of a steadystate one-dimensional model. The electrode system miiersed in an aqueous medium consists of three layers: an external concentration boundary layer, a membrance, and an inner electrolyte layer. The membrance can be permeabld to the water and impermeable to the ionic species. In stationary midium, the water migrates from the external medium to the inner electrolyte layer until a thermodynamic equilibrium is reached. In a following midium, however, there is a reverse direction of water movement due to the hyrodynamic pressure differential until both thickness of the electrolyte layer and the membrance are equal.

This paper presents numerical results comparing the performance of the 2008 Wilcox $\mathcal{k}-{\omega}$ turbulence model to the one of the 1988 Wilcox $\mathcal{k}-{\omega}$ model for supersonic flows. A comparison with experimental data is offered for a shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction case and two ramp injector mixing cases. Furthermore, a comparison is performed with empirical correlations on the basis of skin friction for flow over a flat plate and shear layer growth for a free shear layer. It is found that the maximum injectant mass fraction of some ramp injector cases is better predicted using the 1988 Wilcox model. On the other hand, the 2008 model performs better in simulating shock-boundary layer cases.
The characteristics of thermal boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid in the vicinity of a wedge has been studied with constant surface temperature. The similarity variables found by Falkner and Skan are employed to reduce the streamwise-dependence in the coupled nonlinear boundary layer equations. Numerical solutions are presented for the heat transfer characteristics with Pr=1 using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and their dependence on the material parameters is discussed. The distributions of dimensionless temperature and Nusselt number across the boundary layer are compared with the corresponding flow problems for a Newtonian fluid over wedges. Numerical results show that for a constant wedge angle with a given Prandtl number, Pr=1, the effect of increasing values of K results in an increasing thermal boundary thickness for a micropolar fluid, as compared with a Newtonian fluid. For the case of the constant material parameter K, however, the heat transfer rate for a micropolar fluid is lower than that of a Newtonian fluid.

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a spatially developing turbulent boundary layer (TBL) with regularly arrayed cubical roughness elements was performed to investigate the effects of three-dimensional (3D) surface elements. The staggered cubes downstream were periodically arranged in the streamwise and spanwise directions with pitches of $p_x$/k=8 and $p_z$/k=2, where $p_x$ and $p_z$ are the streamwise and spanwise spacings of the cubes; the roughness height (k) was k=$1.5{\theta}_{in}$, where ${\theta}_{in}$ is the momentum thickness at the inlet. Spatially developing characteristics over the 3D cubical roughness were compared with the data obtained from the DNS over the two-dimensional (2D) rod roughened wall and smooth wall. Introduction of the cubical roughness on the TBL affected the turbulent Reynolds stresses not only in the roughness sublayer but also in the outer layer; and these effects are consistent with those observed over the 2D rough wall.

RANS computational analysis was performed on the head of the launch vehicle including the hammerhead nose pairing in the supersonic regime. The two-dimensional axisymmetric analysis was performed by using laminar, fully turbulent and transition models and compared with the experimental data. It was observed that different flow phenomena occurred depending on the Reynolds number. Under the high Reynolds number condition, the boundary layer becomes turbulent, which is not separated from the surface of the launch vehicle. With the low Reynolds number condition, laminar separation bubble was produced due to the separation and reattachment of the boundary layer on the expansion-compression edge of the hammerhead type nose fairing. The three-dimensional computations with the angle of attack showed a fully detached vortical structure due to the laminar separation bubble. It is proved that the turbulent transition should be considered to predict the separation bubble with the Reynolds number.

A consideration on the trubulence models for describing the redeveloping turbulent boundary layer beyond separation-reattachment in the flow over a backward-facing step is given through experimental and numerical studies. By considering the blance among the measured values of respective terms in the transport equations for the turbulent kinetic energy and the turbulent shear stress, the recovering process of the redeveloping boundary layer from non-equilibrium to equilibrium has been investigated, which takes place slowly over a substantial distance in the downstream direction. In the numerical study, the standard K-.epsilon. model and the Reynolds stress model have been applied to two kinds of flow regions, one for the entire downstream region after the backward-facing step and another for the downstream region after reattachment. Then the results are compared to a meaningful extent, with the experimental values of the turbulent kinetic energy k, the turbulent energy production term P, the dissipation term K-.epsilon. model, a necessity for a new modelling has been brought forward, which can be also applied to the case of the nonequlibrium turbulent flow.
The hydrodynamic instability of the three-dimensional boundary layer on a rotating disk introduces a periodic modulation of the mean flow in the form of stationary cross flow vortices. Detailed numerical values of the growth rates, neutral curves and other characteristics of the two instabilities have been calculated over a wide range of parameters. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning the two instability modes by solving new linear stability equations reformulated not only by considering whole convective terms but by correcting some errors in the previous stability equations. The present stability results are agree with the previously known ones within reasonable limit. The flow is found to be always stable for a disturbance whose dimensionless wave number at Re=1200 is greater than 0.75. Also, the spatial amplification contours have been calculated for the moving disturbance wave, whose azimuth angle is between ${\varepsilon}=15^{\circ}$ and $12.5^{\circ}$.

Flow characteristics in transitional boundary layers on a flat plate were experimentally investigated under three different freestream conditions i. e. uniform flow with 0.1 % and 3.7% freestream turbulent intensity and cylinder-wake with 3.7% maximum turbulent intensity. Instantaneous streamwise velocities in laminar, transitional and turbulent boundary layers were measured by I-type hot-wire probe. For estimation of wall shear stresses on the flat plate, measured mean velocities near the wall were applied to the principle of Computational Preston Tube Method (CPM). Distributions of skin friction coefficients were reasonably predicted in all developed boundary layers. Intermittency profiles, which were estimated using Conditional Sampling Technique in transitional boundary layers, were also consistent with previously published data. It was predicted that the incoming turbulent intensity had more influence on transition onset point and transition process than freestream turbulent intensity existed just over the transition region. It was also confirmed that non-turbulent and turbulent profiles in transitional boundary layers could not be simply treated as Blasius and fully turbulent profiles.
