Chemical Structure of Polyphenol Isolated from Korean Pear (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) (한국산 배 (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai)로부터 polyphenol 화합물의 구조결정)

  • The polyphenol compounds of Korean pears were extracted with 60% acetone for 4 days at room temperature and purified using Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, MCI gel column chromatography, Bondapak $C_{18}$ column chromatography, TLC, and HPLC. As a result, three compounds were isolated. The chemical structures of each compound were determined and identified using NMR, FAM-mass, and FT-IR. The compounds were confirmed as (+)-catechin (compound A), (+)-gallocatechin (compound B), (-)-epigallocatechin (compound C), and procyanidin B-3-3-o-gallate (compound D).

  • For normally consolidated clay, several researchers have developed a number of theoretical time factors to determine the coefficient of consolidation However, depending on the assumptions and analytical techniques, it could considerably vary even for a specific degree of consolidation. In this paper, a method is proposed to determine a consistent coefficient of consolidation over all ranges of degree of consolidation by applying the concept of the Optimum Design Technique. The initial excess pore pressure distribution is assumed to be obtainable by the successive spherical cavity expansion theory. The dissipation of pore pressure is simulated by means of two dimensional linear-uncoupled axisymmetric consolidation analysis. The minimization of the differences between the measured and the predicted excess pore pressures was carried by BFGS unconstrained optimum design algorithm with one dimensional golden section search technique. By analyzing numerical and real field examples, it can be found that the adopted optimum technique gives a consistent and convergent results.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify Hierarchical Culture of construction enterprises, Empowerment, and Organizational Effectiveness through empirical research. To perform this study, we carried out a survey targeting executives of construction companies in Seoul, metropolitan area, and non-metropolitan area. For analyzing, SPSS Statistical Techniques, Reliability analysis, Factor analysis, Multiple Regression analysis were used. The results of the study are as follows. First, the Hierarchy of the Culture affects significantly positive (+) on Organizational Effectiveness. Second, Hierarchical Culture affects the significantly positive (+) to the Empowerment. Third, Hierarchies and Cultural Empowerment was found to significantly affect the positive (+) on Organizational Effectiveness. Based on the conclusions, Hierarchical Culture of the domestic construction industry has a significant impact on Self-determination and the goal of consciousness among employees. In addition, this is helpful in Job Performance and Organizational Commitment.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest appropriate directions for the desirable ecotourist attraction management through the investigation of the tourist's satisfaction with ecotourism in case of Geumgang birdwatching destination. This research focus on the identification of the determinants of the ecotourist's satisfaction and the estimated regression model. The results of this study for the tourist's satisfaction with the ecotourism are summarized as follows. First, as a result of the factor analysis of the tourist's satisfaction variables, five factors like 'knowledge information', 'experience', 'ecological value', 'guide service', 'facilities environment' are deduced. Second, as a result of the test of significance, the difference of the satisfaction with ecotourism in aspect of the tourist's demographic characteristics like age and academic background is confirmed to be statistically significant except sex. Third, the tourist's satisfaction with ecotourism appears to be positively correlative with the tourist's overall satisfaction.

  • The present study examines the impact of eWOM on consumer decision making process by viewing eWOM as the product information supplier. We employ the concept of information entropy which was proposed in the information theory to explain different consumer responses to various types of product information in eWOM. Information entropy is the degree of uncertainty associated with the information in the message. In eWOM, a variety of information with different levels of entropy is available, and these different entropy levels result in different impacts on consumer behavior. The preliminary hypotheses are formulated to examine the impact of eWOM on consumer behavior, at the product attribute level and the purchase action level separately. An experiment was conducted to online shopping mall users and the analysis gives valuable insights into our future research.

  • This paper is aimed to guide ocean-going companies to reasonable decisions and to increase the competitiveness of Korean shipping industry by clarifying the determinants of political costs of ocean-going companies, which only depend for the enormous amount of money to introduce the operating fixed assets, or the vessels, upon the supporting policy from the government or the loan from the related financial institutions. As independent variables of the political costs, 5 elements were settled such as company size(sales, total assets and market share), debit ratio, capital concentration ratio, profitability(operating profit) and marine risk(sales fluctuation). To verify the relations and the effect level between dependent variables and political costs, the Multiple Regression Analysis Model was applied The result of the analysis shows significantly positive relations between size variables and political cost of shipping industry. Moreover, debt ratio and profitability were proved significant related with political costs of shipping industry.

  • The artificial captions appearing in videos include information that relates to the videos. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, many methods for caption extraction from videos have been studied. Most traditional methods of detecting caption region have used one frame. However video include not only spatial information but also temporal information. So we propose a method of detection caption region using temporal and spatial information. First, we make improved Text-Appearance-Map and detect continuous candidate regions through matching between candidate-regions. Second, we detect disappearing captions using disappearance test in candidate regions. In case of captions disappear, the caption regions are decided by a merging process which use temporal and spatial information. Final, we decide final caption regions through ANNs using edge direction histograms for verification. Our proposed method was experienced on many kinds of captions with a variety of sizes, shapes, positions and the experiment result was evaluated through Recall and Precision.

  • Carbon material was used for the new module-type bicycle accessory focusing on the user convenience through service design methodology. In the case of using the existing carbon material, the impact could not be endured while riding the bicycle and there was the case of breaking. To resolve this kind of problem, the new type of material (S Foam Core material) was applied. The intensity, twist intensity, shock absorbing power, and vibration were measured for the existing carbon material and the S Foam Core material. As a result, the S Foam Core material showed more outstanding results than the existing carbon material. This study produced prototype with the S Foam Core material to verify the performance through tests and report the result.

  • The artificial ground freezing method is a ground amelioration technology that does not have a permanent effect on the ground. One of the key factors that determine the efficiency and design criteria of the artificial ground freezing is the groundwater flow. Therefore, in order to accurately evaluate the behavior of the artificial ground freezing, studies on the effect of water flow on the formation of ice walls must be preceded. In this paper, experimental and numerical analyses were conducted using only pure water to maximize the effect of water flow on the formation of ice walls. A hydro-thermal coupled model for freezing behavior was proposed and the accuracy of the model was verified. Through the numerical and experimental studies, the flow rate dominates not only the formation time but also the shape of the ice wall. In addition, this study proposes a method to indirectly predict the ice wall formation time, which is expected to be highly useful for a practical application where it is difficult to visually identify ice walls.

  • Prediction problem of the time-series data has been a research issue for a long time among many researchers and a number of methods have been proposed in the literatures. In this paper, a method is proposed that similarities among time-series data are examined by use of Hidden Markov Model and Likelihood and future direction of the data movement is determined. Query sequence is modeled by Hidden Markov Modeling and then the model is examined over the pre-recorded time-series to find the subsequence which has the greatest similarity between the model and the extracted subsequence. The similarity is evaluated by likelihood. When the best subsequence is chosen, the next portion of the subsequence is used to predict the next phase of the data movement. A number of experiments with different parameters have been conducted to confirm the validity of the method. We used KOSPI to verify suggested method.
