  • Road signs are important facilities in terms of providing information to driver, they are helpful for driver's judgment as deliver it's own information. However if there is occurrence dew on the road sign because of the change of temperature and humidity, it can be cause of accidents. Therefore it is necessary to develop anti-dew or dew resistance technology. In this research the anti-dew technologies such as insulation road sign and anti-dew film were compared with normal road sign, and the effectiveness analysis was conducted for each alternatives. The quantity of dew on the road sign was check using ANOVA and Tukey HSD and the relation between the retro-reflectivity and quantity of dew on the sign was check using Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result, the sample of anti-dew film attached road sign showed lesser quantity of dew compared with normal road sign. After 90 seconds, the difference of dew quantity for anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed statistically significant result. The relation of between quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity was inverse correlation. As a result, when analyzed the quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity a point of view anti-dew effectiveness, the anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed meaningful result.

  • This study investigated the effect of films treated with anti-fogging (LA) agent on the freshness extension of 'Fuji' Apples. Preference, weight loss, total ascorbic acid, sugar content, acidity, change of gas composition in package were evaluated during storage at $15^{\circ}C$. After 150 days of storage, the weight loss of apples in control (L), LA was 1.0 to 1.1%. Total ascorbic acid content of apples in control after 150 days was 2.09 mg/100g F.W, that of apple in LA was 2.47 mg/100g F.W. The titratable acidity of apple in LA was lower than that in control, while soluble solids content of LA was higher than that in control after 150 days. Ethylene gas adsorbability in control package was 192.2 ppm and that in LA was 195.7 ppm. It was verified that LA treated with anti-fogging agent are few different compare to control, but commerdity on the display in market was considered higher than that of non-treated anti-fogging agent.

  • This study investigated the effect of functional MA films (FMA) masterbatched by zeolite powder treated with 1 N HCl solution and anti-fogging agent (CA) on the freshness extension of 'Fuji' Apples. Preference, weight loss, total ascorbic acid, sugar content, acidity, change of gas composition in package were evaluated during storage at $15^{\circ}C$. After 150 days of storage, the weight loss of LLDPE film (control, L) apples was 0.4%, and that of apple in FMA film (CA) was 1.1%. Total ascorbic acid content of apples in control after 150 days was 2.09 mg%, and those of apple in FMA film was 2.94 mg%. The titratable acidity of apple in FMA film was higher than that in control, while soluble solids content of packages was lower than that in control after 150 days. Ethylene gas adsorbability in control package was 192.2 ppm and those in FMA film was 165.6 ppm. Overall, apples in FMA film was better than that of control. It was verified that apples packed with LLDPE film(control) lasted about 130 days, while those with FMA film lasted about 170 days. Also, FMA film treated with anti-fogging agent achieved no significant effect on freshness extension compared to non-treated film, but quality of 'Fuji' Apples was improved by anti-fogging agent when compared to that of non-treated anti-fogging agent.

  • This study investigated the effect of functional MA films (FMA) incorporated with zeolite powder treated with 1 N HCL solution and anti-fogging agent on the freshness extension of Satsuma mandarin. Preference, weight loss, total ascorbic acid, sugar content, titratable acidity and gas composition in package of Satsuma mandarin were evaluated during storage at $15^{\circ}C$. After 120 days of storage, the weight loss of mandarin packed with LLDPE film (control, L) was 1%, FMA film (CA) was 1.6%. Total ascorbic acid content of Satsuma manderin in control was 19.97 mg%, those of CA was 24.25 mg%. The titratable acidity of Satsuma manderin in CA was higher than that of control, while soluble solids content of CA was lower than that of control after 120 days. Ethylene gas content of control was 89.5 ppm and those of CA was 73.6 ppm after 120 days. Quality of Satsuma mandarin packed with CA was better than that of control. It was verified that shelf-life of Satsuma mandarin in control was 100 days and those of CA film was 130 days. Quality of Satsuma mandarin was few different between treated with anti-fogging agent and non-treated, but commodity of film treated with anti-fogging agent was considered better than that of non-treated.

  • The effects of film thickness and moisture absorbing materials(MAM) on the ginger qualities were investigated during MA storage for 150 days. LDPE films of 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08mm thicknesses were applied to select the adequate film in gas permiability. MAMs of sheet and sachet type were applied to 0.06mm-LDPE film bag to prevent moisture condensation during storage. Thickness of film used affected neither weight loss nor firmness of gingers during U storage. But the thinner in thickness showed the less changes in sprouting, spoilage and reducing sugar. Moreover, compared with MAP alone, MAPs with MAM of both sachet and sheet styles led to the weight loss of gingers increasing by more than 3-4 times, but sprouting rate, spoilage rate and reducing sugar decreasing by 3.3, 1.4 and 2.3 times, respectively. These results showed that MAP with UM was significantly effective to prolong the freshness of ginger by longer than 2 times, compared with MAP alone.

After 150 days of storage, the weight loss of control (L) apples was 1%, that of apple in FMA film (NA) was 1.5% after 150 days. Total ascorbic acid content of apples in control (L) after 150 days was 2.09 mg%, those of apple in FMA film (NA) was 2.72 mg%. The titratable acidity of apple in FMA film was higher than that in control, while soluble solids content of apples in FMA film was lower than that in control after 150 days. Ethylene gas adsorbability in control was 192.2 ppm and those in FMA film was 141.4 ppm after 150 days. Overall, apples in FMA film was better than that of control. It was verified that apples packed with LLDPE film (control) lasted about 130days, while those with FMA films lasted about 170 days. • The effects of packaging treatments with either low density polyethylene (LDPE) or polypropylene (PP) films on the quality of leaf lettuce were evaluated. It was also stored within a plastic bag (LDPE and PP films) with 4 pelf orated holes (6mm diameter). Changes in weight loss, color difference, anthocyanin, chlorophyll, water content, and general appearance (shape of lettuce) ware investigated Total weight of leaf lettuce packaged within non-pelf orated films decreased slowly over the storage periods at 5 and $20^{\circ}C$. The weight loss of leaf lettuce showed no significant difference between non-pelf orated and perforated films at $20^{\circ}C$. General appearance in leaf lettuce stored at $20^{\circ}C$ was not significantly affected by packaging treatments with LDPE and PP films. The shelf life of non-packaged leaf lettuce at $5^{\circ}C$ was 8 days, whereas packaging treatments with LDPE and PP films showed freshness in leaf lettuce for 30 days of storage. Total chlorophyll and water contents of leaf lettuce packaged within pelf orated and non-pelf orated films decreased gradually during storage. However, no remarkable changes in color difference, levels of chlorophyll and anthocyanin, and water contents were observed in leaf lettuce packaged within perforated and non-pelf orated films. In this experiment, leaf lettuce packaged within LDPE or PP films without any punching holes at $5^{\circ}C$ was the most desirable for extending the quality. These results suggest that non-pelf orated packaging treatment in combination with low storage temperature could be effective in prolonging the shelf life of leaf lettuce
