  • Online games are getting more popular among today's fun-seeking young students. The immersive power of these Internet-based games is so strong that many educators consider the integration of the games and learning to enhance learner motivation. However, the online games, which are primarily aiming g for 'fun', have cognitive, emotional, and social features and impacts that are different from the so-called 'educational' games. Therefore an interdisciplinary approach for better understanding of the online game in regard to its impact on learning and fun should be essential. In this study, the researcher will analyze relevant literature and theories from cognitive psychology, media and communication theory, and Ludology to grasp holistic understanding of online game phenomena, which will serve as basis of further research and development in this emerging area.

  • Recently many studies has been conducted for interactive game to contents immersion through visual stimuli. Among them, Multi-Plane Image tech is suitable for projecting video in wide views, but it is difficult to perform calibration and mapping tasks for viewing separately. In this paper, we developed a calibration mapping applies to the field archery game space in the form of CAVE. As a result, we maintained the resolution confirmed the space through the video without distortion and expect to be applicable to the fields requiring presence, such as training contents.

  • Since educational and fun elements coexist in an educational game, it is important to come up with standards that can elicit fun with the game as well as educational standards. Many of the existing developed educational games have received low marks in the characteristics of entertainment and game design. Thus, how to make up for their entertainment characteristics is important. This paper analyzes gaming elements of puzzle games that were released for smart phones and gained massive popularity from their users and will apply them to educational games. Such games that have gained popularity and won a commercial success include Anipang, Anipang 2, Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga and Pokopang. This study will analyze gaming elements of these games. By analyzing the educational games, it is applied to the game elements of casual games. In addition, we have proposed a element that can enhance the immersive. Game design elements that can improve entertainment characteristics include game rules, stages and missions. Elements that can increase immersion include items, background maps and new learning environments. This paper has significance in that it analyzes entertainment characteristics, which mean the fun of games through those that have been a commercial success and applies them to educational games.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the factors of Social Network Games of continuous game flow and addiction. This study analyzes the significant factors of the addiction of SNGs from three categories. It also seeks to find out what relation between continuous game flow and addiction in SNGs. The model consists of three categories (SNG characteristic, User characteristic, and Environmental characteristic). The research model was conducted through the structural equation modeling(SEM) approach, and tested using 374 questionnaires. The results indicated that SNG characteristic(accessibility, enjoyment, feedback), User characteristic(self-control), Environmental characteristic(social interaction, subjective norm) have a positive effect on continuous game flow. The findings also that continuous game flow plays a moderation role that affects addiction. Finally, we discussed the research results and offered relevant suggestions for schools, firms, and future studies

  • Recently, there is a growing interest in learning to use games as a teaching method for digital native learners. In this study, we conducted a path analysis between bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, linguistic intelligence, flow, learning outcomes(academic achievement, persistence intention) in motion-capture game-based learning(the used game developed for elementary school history class). As a result, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence directly influenced flow and indirectly influenced learning outcomes. Linguistic intelligence did not have direct influence on flow and indirect effects on learning outcomes. Through this result, we expected that the motion-capture game-based learning facilitate learning motivation and performance of learners for higher bodily-kinesthetic intelligence.

  • Since 3D gamers can control points of view and field of view freely, 3D games generate high realities and immersions. On most of 3D games, a point of view and a field of view are determined by positions and FOV(field of view) of camera. Although FOV is a simple technical factor, it leads to graphics distortion and affects immersion of the game and causes some gamers to get physical sickness. Therefore, we will suggest the instruction to operate FOVs in many 3D games by examining and analysing various rendering results with control of FOV and real cases of FOV in published games with same 3D modeling environments.

  • In the generalization of mobile content use, feedback is a kind of alert that affects content immersion. An alert leads to separation from the content currently being used to transfer to content that raises the alert. Immersive interference can be recognized as a problem in mobile contents use. In this paper, we propose a serious game for overcomes immersion. interference from feedback and the foundation for interrelation research between feedback and immersion. The proposed serious game has been designed to present three kinds of feedback, specifically positive, negative, and hybrid feedback, through social information about the user. We also conducted an experiment to examine the correlation between three kinds of feedback and immersion while consuming digital content. The result of the experiment showed that negative feedback leads to higher immersion than positive feedback.
