Louis Sullivan insisted, "Form follows function." Functionality is one of the most fundamental elements for users to use product or space, and "function" in space and architecture has the meaning of the most important factor in determining its form. In this way, from the viewpoint of "Functionalism," the research selected Toyo Ito to see how important elements pursued by Functionalism are related to his forms of creation. Small residential space projects of Toyo Ito from the early 1970s to the present are selected, so that the structure, material and space type of space and architecture can easily grasped and analyzed. Space and architectural structures and surfaces were classified into the characteristics of materials and classified according to the strength of openness of space. As a result, the space and architecture that pursue the function use a method that can maximize the efficiency of the function while excluding the whole decoration in order to highlight the function. The characteristics found in Toyo Ito's small-scale residential space can be defined as the formalization and simplification of the form, the openness of space, and the versatility of each element.

In this study, I tried to provide the basic data for planning the public library space to meet the new needs of the users in digital generation by survey and literature review on factors in planning the digital space of public libraries. In 2000, a separate space for digital materials has been prepared at the most of the libraries as a part of informatization program of public libraries. However, it is not sufficient to provide a number of different needs of the users due to the identical design of all the libraries. For the prioritization, 50 factors have been deducted by review of preceding studies, evaluation factors and criteria of library of each institution. Factorial analysis was performed on the factors with the importance which was higher than average. Also, the relationships among the factors with similar properties were understood to categorize the factors in space planning by each factor. Based on these factors in planning the digital space, further space evaluation of the public library and user satisfaction survey could be followed to provide a fundamental basis for the specific space planning.

With the development of digital technology, people's lives are becoming increasingly comfortable and convenience. But with the rapid technological development, people feel tired of a modern society, so they became interested in basic human value and the design with human emotion This design is defined as the analog design concept to stimulate human emotions in previous studies, this approach considering the psychological and physical characteristics of the people has been attempted. This study is to consider about the concepts and consequent design elements for analog emotional expression through the prior analysis of the study In particular, understanding the architecture environment transformed into objects that interact and communicate with humans, this study focused on architectural space. The purpose of this study is to provide advice on the basic research of the field by analyzing the value and significance of the analog design in the digital society.

As the 3D Greenery system is known to improve the urban environment, it works as new alternative for eco-friendly building and warrants further study for application to the domestic field. This study aimed to apply the design components for eco-friendly composition by investigating the spatial characteristics of the 3D Greenery System reflected in interior and exterior of buildings and to analyze the organization and design elements of domestic and foreign cases. The results showed that instances of the Greenery System tended to be a large scale and high-density development in order to expand various exterior spaces. Although its early forms were often found in such public facilities as exhibition and education purpose, cases of multi-unit dwelling have been growing. Allowing apartment residents to prefer intimate space by providing various such spaces for residential units and offering independent green spaces would induce diverse residents' lifestyles rather than monotonous design. The analysis also indicated that community space composed of various outdoor spaces and atmosphere would change life patterns of multi-housing and establish a real neighborhood through social interaction. Moreover, further investigation of the design patterns of outdoor space arrangement is needed since the Greenery system actively reflects the environmental characteristics of building sites and clearly shows a tendency to utilize natural terrain and slope in building shapes.

인테리어 디자인학은 보편적으로 건물의 내부공간, 즉 매우 명확한 경계들을 전제로 잘 정의된 공간들에 관한 연구로 그 범위가 제한되어져 왔다. 따라서 건축, 도시, 또는 매우 광대한 의미에서의 환경디자인의 특권으로 알려져 있는 도시에 관한 쟁점을 그다지 자주 다루지 않는 편이라 할 수 있겠다. 그러나 극도로 고밀도화된 현대의 대도시들은 주요 지하 교통망을 중심으로 상업, 유흥, 업무시설 그리고 경우에 따라서는 주거단지에 까지 쉽게 연결되는 거대한양의 전이 실내공간들을 창출해내고 있다. 이것이 최근 홍콩의 건축가 게리 챙(Gary Chang)에 의해서 규정된 새로운 개념의 고밀도 도시 인테리어 랜드스케이프(interior landscape)인 것이다. 이러한 인테리어스케이프의 개념은 현대 도시의 모습 중에서 가장 흥미로운 개념들 중의하나라 할 수 있는데 다양한 요소들이 혼합된 그 특성은 이제 사회학, 건축, 인류학, 도시탐험, 인테리어 디자인, 도시 그리고 환경 디자인 등 다양한 분야에서 뜨거운 논쟁의 주제로 떠오르게 된 것이다. 이제 도시에 관한 연구는 더 이상 외부에서 내부로 진행되는 것이 아니고, 내부에서부터 출발되는 것이다. 극도로 밀집된 아시아의 대도시들은 이렇게 혼잡한 도시환경의 모든 요인들을 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 다양하고 흥미로운 상황들을 제공해 주고 있다. 상업적 목적으로 건물 전체를 사용하는 수직적 전략이나 다양한 문화적 행태들은 도시 환경의 '혼잡성'을 그냥 참을만한 것이 아니라 오히려 그 도시만의 매력적 요소로 부각시켜 주는 것이다. 본 논문은 인테리어스케이프를 중심으로 진행되고 있는 다양한 이론적 논쟁들의 분석에 그 기초를 두고 있다. '장소성의 부재'의 개념, 혼잡의 문화, 공공공간의 사유화, 결절도시, 한계의 개념들을 분석하여 아시아 대도시들이 어떻게 이러한 쟁점들을 그들 자신만의 고유한 해결책으로 발전시키는지를 고찰하고자 한다. 본 논문의 목적은 서울을 사례분석 중 하나로 사용하여 인테리어 디자인 분야의 경계를 대도시로 확장하는 동시에 새로운 적용영역의 가능성을 탐구하는데 있다 하겠다.

건축디자인 초기단계에서 다이어그램은 아이디어 및 디자인 해결방안을 도출하기 위한 분석 도구로써 중요한 의미를 지닌다(Wang, 1999; Do, 1997). 이러한 다이어그램은 시각적 디자인 피드백을 가능하게 함으로써 건축디자인 실무 및 교육에서 필수적인 디자인 도구라고 할 수 있다 (Schon and Wiggins, 1992; Gross, 1996; Kurmann, 1998). 최근에 IT 기술이 건축분야에 적용됨에 따라, 건축가들의 전통적으로 고려되어 왔던 인간의 행동, 자연현상, 건축재료, 건축부재, 대지조건 외에 다양한 IT 기술과 관련된 정보를 분석하고 고려할 필요성을 가지게 되었다. 그러나 이러한 다양한 IT 기술은 건축적인 요소들과 접목되어 적용되기 때문에 건축가들은 디자인 초기단계부터 IT 기술의 접목이 가능한 디자인 도구를 필요로 하게 되었다. 즉, 이는 IT 정보와 공간정보와의 관계 및 적용을 건축가가 빠르게 이해하고 분석하고 이를 디자인에 반영할 수 있도록 도와주는 시각적 다이어그램 표출이 가능한 디자인 도구가 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 IT 기술과 공간 정보의 다양한 형태의 관계를 나타내는 3 차원 버블 다이어그램을 이용한 계략 디자인 방법을 제안하고, 이를 기반으로 3 차원 버블 다이어그램을 지원하면서 건축 디자인 초기단계에 이용 가능한 디자인 도구를 개발한다. 본 연구에서 개발된 디자인 도구는 정보의 유형에 따라 다양하게 형태를 변화시킬 수 있는 노드(node)와 연결선(edge)로 구성되고, 저장된 특정 건축정보는 다이어그램으로 생성된 디자인 대안을 평가하는데 사용된다. 일종의 DSS(Decision Support System)인 본 시스템은 디자인 초기단계에서 3 차원 디자인 아이디어를 제공할 뿐만 아니라 다양한 디자인 대안을 빠르게 생성하고 이를 실시간으로 평가함으로써 디자인 효율성을 증가시킬 것이다. 본 시스템은 유비쿼터스 기술이 적용된 신도시에 생성될 통관관제센터 디자인에 실험적으로 적용되었다.

The facade in the street is a unfixed type, thus it is not easy to investigate the characteristic of structures. In addition, a color mainly depends on sensitivity, therefore, it is very difficult to provide the solution of the problems. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between a form of the facade and a color, and to introduce the methodology and the direction of the color scheme for the facade in the street. for the purpose of this study, 47 facades are empirically analyzed. Based upon the results of research analysis, this study try to find out the relationship among the formative continuity of the facade in the street, a color, and the quality of the material. From the results, it suggests the new direction for the image formation of the facade in the street centering around a color. This study concludes that the characteristics of the facade in the street is discontinuous, and the color scheme is not based on the formative continuity. Moreover, the whole street is composed of each strong individual character. In order to harmonious creation of the facade in the street, primary colors and painting colors should be constrained. Finally, the color scheme based on the formative continuity of the facade in the street should be carefully considered.

In church building, the worship space performing practical rituals and making a place of friendship and education has a role to accept the changing services with the times. And it is also distinguishable from the chaotic surroundings and is the space for religious experience of christian identity we cannot experience in our daily life. Therefore it is very important to investigate its characteristic as the space for religious experience. The important purpose of church building is to make up a worship space, and the chancel in worship space is said to be the core in church building, the center of all worship acts. Especially, today with the tendency of multi-functionalizing and opening in worship space, the chancel in worship space has a more special meaning as spatial, functional and symbolic center. The purpose of this study, with the worship space in domestic protestant churches, is to make up basic data for the worship space plan and interiordesign in church building by analyzing the characteristics of interior design for chancel, the core field of worship space. This study has researched the constituentcharacteristics of interior design for the chancel in worship space in domestic protestant churches in 10 years from 1995 to 2004. And found the worship space opening and multi-functionalizing with the changing times. From now on, the study on interior design for creative worship space should be researched positively for the purpose of expressing the christian identity and the opening and muti-functions, on the basis of christian theology.

In recent years space planning for modern city has been accomplished through scientific high technique and computer supported collaborative work. Relatively human being is treated as a component of the space or whole building and according to the social structure people tend to prefer private space. The necessity of the open space as an active place is emphasized now because the interaction created between users of the space and the nature, surrounding environment can influence on improving quality of outdoor life and giving the place specific identity. In this paper three ways of analyses of components which compose the open space are studied. Especially through the process of analyses derived from differenet areas, the necessity of communication model in collaborative work is proposed.

This study is intended to investigate the superyacht exterior design style from the viewpoint of marine architectural design. Especially it is focused on the exterior profile design of superyachts. Superyachts are passenger vessels whose hull exceeds 24m. They are a kind of luxurious leisure ships. Marine architectural designer can contribute in the field of exterior and interior design of superyachts. In this study we analyze outboard profile of 32 superyachts and extract key design elements of exterior profiles. Those are sheer line, stem line, bow line, house line and windows.
