  • This study aims to analyze the aesthetic thought and expression tendency appeared in contemporary architecture by looking at today's architectural art based on the concept of the uncanny that Sigmund Freud contended as an aesthetic principle, of the aesthetic concepts tossed around to define the contemporary times in the aesthetics field and discuss the architectural analysis possibility of the concept of the uncanny. The generation structure of the uncanny that generates experiences of fear and surprise is classified into dual structure, trauma, threatening structure, and repetition compulsion. This is the principle that evokes a sense of experiencing subject, incorporates sensibility, and vitalizes internal process. This is also the methodology to organize and structure the concept of the uncanny. When seen from the four factors drawn from the concept of the uncanny and aesthetic expressions, the uncanny expression characteristics of contemporary architecture includes isolation, subversion, trace, absence, oblique line, flotation, concealment, and disturbance. Isolation and subversion refers to producing the space of the pressure of tension and relaxation caused by repression and relief from repression and eliciting the maximum expansion of the sense of space through spatial change. Trace and absence indicates being able to elicit more intense emotions from the experiencing subject by applying the images of alienation and absence in the way to reproduce historical trauma. This happens by implementing the potential value of physical activity. Oblique line and flotation means visual impulse. This happens in the way to visualize uneasy points. This causes uncanny by threatening the survival. Finally, concealment and disturbance refers to creating unpredictable space. The concept of masquerade and maze space composition are applied in the way to activate spatial perception, including space exploration and unintended subject's forced selection. As stated above, the uncanny expression characteristics shown in contemporary architecture can be presented as indicators that are available to analyze the undecided and diversified contemporary architecture aesthetically. In this respect, this study has great significance.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the expression style of space in Rietveld's early works in comparison with Mondrian's paintings. Through investigating the development of their works and analyzing the composition and disposition type of elements such as point, line, plane, color in the selected works, we can draw the following conclusions. .First, Rietveld pursues the dissolution of traditional volume and the de-composition of elements as Mondrian does. Second, the painterly property of plane is emphasized by the projection of separately floating elements on the picture plane. Third, the separating the layer of lines from the layer of planes and the re-combination of these two layers present the superimpositional image of three-dimensional objects. This leads into new conception of architectural space and develops the transparency and the extension of plan in modem architecture.

This trend is considered with architectural quotation and the meaning has the same text of the eclectic trend of Postmodernism, This study focuse on eclectic characteristics and have purposes of theoretical approaching to and formal analyzing to Contemporary Architecture. And it will be necessary to construct contemporary built environment for diversity of form Because expression of Architectural form by ecleticism is a method without experience designers can take architectural language by indirect experience of another worlds' architectural styles. Architectural form of Ecleticism has to be expressed by designer's own analysis when take a normal identity by creative principal of form-composition it will be a methodology of form composition and a prope necessity.

  • Contemporary Architecture stands on the basis of the influence of the formative arts, and it carves out a new field of architecture through various technical or material expressions. Herzog & de Meuron, whose has been recognized internationally, are one of few artists following this Contemporary architectural flow. This thesis analyzed his work of art by the trend of times, and base on the results, tried to find his architectural language. Three points have been concluded through this architectural thesis. The architectural language does not deal with our monotonous environment, but deals with it technically. • While transparency in general refers to the structure that is optically luminant or pleasant in its lightness, it is often synonymous with the concept of "modernistic." The advancement in construction and design technologies and the development of new materials with versatility adds even further diversity to transparency in architectural expression. The purpose of this study is to analyze various conceptions about transparency effects by comparing diverse expressions of visual lightness effects in space design. For this, I categorize and exemplify visual lightness effects of space applied to transparent materials. I argue that by utilizing transparent materials, the perception of space as well as boundaries between exterior and interior can be profoundly transformed. Space that overlaps through transparent boundaries creates atmosphere which deepens the architectural space environments.ironments.

  • In recent years, local governments are interested in constructing museums of various scales in relationship to unique factors of each region regarding their positive effects on tourist industry. However, many museums have failed to reflect regional characteristics resulting uniformed, uninteresting museum architectures. This study analyzes museum architectures designed by Ando Dadao, Antoine Predock's, Charles Correa, Carlo Scarpa, and Ricardo Legorrata based on 7 criterias of Kenneth Prampton's critical regionalism theory which are natural environment, materials, light, weather, unique culture, and history. It Is hoped that this study may serve as a stopping stone towards designing museums that reflect distinctive regional identities of Korea.
