The Improvement of Spaghetti Quality Made from Bread Wheat Flour (제빵용 밀가루를 이용한 스파게티 제조 적성의 향상)

  • Two of the Hard White Winter (HWW) wheats had higher farina yield than mixed Hard Red Winter (HRW) wheat. Optimum steaming time for HRW farina spaghetti was 3min under 86-98$^{\circ}C$. Optimum cooking time decreased after steam treatment. Steam treated spaghetti showed much higher strength of dried spaghetti, lower cooking loss, and cooked weight, less stickiness, and total organic matters (TOM) value than in treated spaghetti after cooking. The rooking qualities except stickiness were significantly different between treated and untreated steam. The quality of hard wheat farina spaghetti was more affected than that of durum spaghetti after steam treatment. HWW farina spaghetti im-roved all the qualities of steam treated and untreated spaghetti than those of HRW farina spaghetti except stickiness. From the observations of scanning electron microscope (SEM), maybe two general principles of steaming can be explained by : i) forming hydrophobic protein film on surface of pasta, ii) higher retrogradation of starch, which cause less swelling of starch.

An Experimental Study on Compaction Characteristics of Gravel-mixed Decomposed Granite Soil (자갈이 함유된 화강풍화토의 다짐특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to clarify the influence of gravel content on the mechanical properties of gravel-mixed decompose granite soils, large-scale one-dimensional compression tests were performed. The sample used in the study was a decomposed granite soil from Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi prefecture in Japan. After adjusting the grain size of the said soils, the specimen compacted with a certain level of compaction energy was put to the test. Based on the results obtained, when gravel-mixed decomposed granite soil was compacted at the same energy level, there existed the specific gravel content at which dry density was maximum and which also produced the minimum compression index. Furthermore, from these results, an expression based on a two-phase mixture theory was proposed to quantitatively evaluate the effects of gravel content and initial dry density and the material parameters calculated through the proposed method proved to exactly estimate the actual measuring value.

  • The Paper describes the observed behaviour in the undrained triaxial condition of marine clays remoulded at various different levels of factors, to find out the effects of restricted factors on the stress-strain characteristics. The conventional triaxial compression tests $({\sigma}1>{\sigma}2={\sigma}3)$ were carried out on the 50mm in diameter and 100mm long cylindrical specimens of Gun-san bay mud under controlled various moisture content, density, axial strain rate and passing on No. 200 sieve. Significant conclusions from this study are; 1. The compressible deviator stress at failure of pure marine clay was observed to increase with the decrease of moulding moisture content. 2. The compressible deviator stress at failure increased with the increasing of moulding dry density. 3. The interaction between moisture content and density on the stress-strain characteristics of marine clay was remarkedly significant, as the result of factorial experimental method. 4. The effect of axial strain rate on stress-strain behaviour was unsignificant in marine clay and but the secant moduli could be pronounced on a slight decreasing with increase of the strain rate. 5. With the increasing of the passing on No. 200 sieve, the deviator stress increased regularly. 6. The multiple regression equation could be modeled for the prediction of stress or strain and the comparison with experimental results relatively proved the accuracy.

Development of Cellulosic Fiber Filter Using Replacement Liquid in Water-Swollen Fiber with Non-Polar Solvent (Non-Polar 물질 수분치환에 의한 종이필터 개발)

  • The purposes of this study are to prepare Hanji fiber-filter sheets using replacement liquid in water-swollen fiber with non-polar solvent such as ethanol, methanol and pentane. The experiments were studied on the selection of optimal non-polar solvent and the optimal drying method for wetted fiber and then were to know physicochemical characteristics of prepared Hanji fiber-filter sheet. The Ethanol as liquid changer in water-swollen fiber was excellent solvent and the optimal drying method for them was freeze drying served with vacuum pump. The bulk density and porosity of prepared fiber sheet from freeze dryer were 0.11-0.13 g/mL, half of natural dried fiber sheet, and 90%, respectively. The results of SEM observation for the fiber sheet prepared with natural drying or heating drying were shown very close structure of fiber wall in dry state. However, the freeze drying sheet were shown the open structure. So, the head loss of freeze drying sheet was very lower than natural drying and heating drying sheets. From the results of BTEX removal experiments, the sheets dried at water wetted condition was shown more higher efficiency than the fiber sheets dried at solvent wetted condition.

Thiobacillus ferrooxidans 의 전기화학적 배양에 의한 셀밀도 증가

  • In this study, we demonstrated that high cell density for Thiobacillus ferrooxidans could be obtained when optimal conditions for cell growth were maintained using electrochemical cultivation with sufficient aeration. The optimal pH for cultivation were determined to be $2.0{\pm}0.05$. When the current and potential were set to 0.15A, 4V, the Pt electrode reduced $Fe^{3+}$ to $Fe^{2+}$ with efficiency of 85%. Under these condition, cells at an initial density of 0.0025 g-dry cell/L grew for 8days until the cell density was 0.0576 g-dry cell/L. this was a 7-fold increase over conventional batch culture.

  • 아크릴계 수지(resin)에 인조 흑연과 탄소나노튜브(carbon nanotube)를 1:1 비율로 혼합한 충전제(filler)와 용제(solvent) 및 기타 첨가제(additives)를 혼합하여 방열도료를 제조하여 수직방향 열전도도를 상온에서 평가하였다. 충전제의 함량을 1, 2, 5 중량 %로 변화시키며 원료들을 준비하여 교반기로 혼합한 뒤 3단 롤 밀(three roll mill)로 분산공정을 진행하여 3 종류의 도료를 제조하였다. 제조한 도료를 가로 11 mm, 세로 11 mm, 두께 0.4 mm의 Al 5052 알루미늄 기판에 스프레이 코팅 방식으로 도포한 후 $150^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 열경화 건조 과정을 거쳐 샘플을 제작하였다. 측정 시료의 형상은 대략적으로 Fig. 1과 같다. 열전도도는 식 $k={\alpha}{\cdot}C_p{\cdot}{\rho}$를 사용해서 계산된다. 여기서 k는 열전도도($W/m{\cdot}K$), ${\alpha}$는 열확산계수($mm^2/s$), $C_p$는 비열($J/kg{\cdot}K$), ${\rho}$는 밀도($g/cm^3$)를 나타낸다. 열확산계수는 독일 NETZSCH 사의 Laser Flash Analysis 장비(모델명 LFA 457)를 사용하여 측정하였는데, 기판 뒤쪽에서 레이저를 조사하고 도료층 전면에서 적외선 온도센서를 통해 시간에 따른 온도 상승곡선을 구한 후, 두 물체의 계면에서의 접촉 열저항(contact thermal resistance)을 감안하여 장비에 내장되어 있는 소프트웨어로 열확산계수가 계산된다. 비열은 같은 회사의 DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry) 200 F3 장비를 사용해 측정했으며, 밀도는 부피와 질량을 측정한 값을 이용하여 계산하였다. 도료를 도포하지 않은 bare Al plate에 대해서는 쉽게 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도를 측정하여 열전도도를 구할 수 있다. 도료가 코팅된 샘플에 대해서는 도료층을 일부 떼어내 비열을 측정하고, 밀도를 구한 후, 도료층의 열전도도가 2-layer 법으로 장비 내장 소프트웨어로 계산된다, 이때 Al 기판의 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도는 미리 측정한 bare Al plate의 값을 적용하였다. 실험 결과를 Table 1에 정리하였다. 흑연과 탄소나노튜브를 혼합한 충전제를 함유한 아크릴 복합체 박막에서 측정된 열전도도는 보통 고분자 재료의 열전도도 값의 상한 영역에 육박하는 값이며, 충전제 함량이 증가할수록 열전도도가 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

Differential Responses of Antioxidant Enzymes on Chilling and Drought Stress in Tomato Seedlings (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) (토마토 유묘에 있어서 저온과 수분 스트레스에 대한 항산화효소의 활성 차이)

  • Responses of antioxidant enzymes on chilling and drought stress in tomato seedlings were investigated. Growing patterns of tomato based on fresh weight of tomato seedlings were severely affected by chilling and drought stress. Fresh weight of tomato seedlings were reduced by 69.5% in chilling stress and 50.6% in drought stress compared to those in the unstressed control seedlings after 12 days of stress. The specific and gel activity of SOD and POD in the leaves, shoots, and roots of tomato seedlings were significantly increased by chilling and drought stress. Activation of SOD and POD activity by chilling stress were higher in the roots than those of drought stress. However, activation of SOD and POD activity by drought stress were higher in the leaves and shoots than those of chilling stress. The specific and gel activity of GR in the leaves, shoots, and roots of tomato seedlings were also significantly increased by chilling and drought stress. When the seedlings were treated with chilling or drought stress, one GR isozyme band (GR-3) was newly expressed in the leaves of tomato seedlings. The specific and gel activity of PPO was significantly increased in the roots and shoots of tomato seedlings by chilling and drought stress, respectively. However, the specific and gel activity of PPO in the leaves is no difference between stressed and controlled tomato seedlings.

Impact of Drying Temperature in High-Loading Positive Electrode Fabrication Process for Lithium-ion Batteries (리튬이온 이차전지용 고로딩 양극 제조공정에서 건조온도의 영향에 대한 연구)

  • Among the electrode manufacturing processes for lithium-ion batteries, the drying process is crucial for production speed and process cost. Particularly, as the loading level of the electrode increases to enhance the energy density of the battery, optimizing process conditions for electrode drying becomes more critical. In this study, we compared the drying time and electrochemical performance of the positive electrode prepared at different drying temperatures. LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NCM622) was used as the active material and manufactured under various drying temperature conditions ranging from 120 ℃ to 210 ℃ at loading levels of 2.5 and 4.5 mAh cm-2. The physical and electrochemical properties of the electrodes were compared. As the loading level of the electrode increases, the drying time of the electrode also increases, but this time can be reduced by increasing the drying temperature. The drying temperature used in manufacturing the NCM622 positive electrode does not significantly affect the electrochemical performance but drying above 210 ℃ resulted in an increase in the volume resistivity of the electrode and a decrease in electrochemical performance. Accordingly, in the manufacture of high-loading electrodes, the drying temperature was increased to 190 ℃ to shorten the electrode manufacturing time without a loss of performance.

Kinetic Studies on Amylases from Barley and Wheat Malt (보리와 밀 맥아 Amylases의 반응속도론적 연구)

  • ${\alpha}-amylase\;and\;{\beta}-amylase$ were extracted from barley and wheat malt, respectively. Their kinetic parameters on gultinous and nonglutinous rice starch were examined. During the germination of barley and wheat, the increaments of ATP levels were significant after 2-day germination and the levels were reduced after 5 days. The dry weights were decreased after 3 days. The activities of amylases were the highest for 6 days in the barley and wheat malt. As for ${\alpha}-amylase$, that the substrate affinity of barley malt on nonglutionous rice starch was greater than other cases. The $V_{max}$ values of ${\alpha}-amylase$ from wheat malt on either type of rice starch showed high, and from barley malt on nonglutinous rice starch were high. The ${\beta}-amylse$ from barley malt showed high substrate affinity on the glutinous rice starch, and $V_{max}$ value of the enzyme from wheat malt on glutinous rice starch was higher than other. The substrate efficiency ($V_{max}/K_{m}$) of ${\beta}-amylase$ on the non glutinous rice strach was better than other cases.

EVALUATION OF PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT CELL VIABILITY IN RAT TEETH ACCORDING TO VARIOUS EXTRA-ORAL DRY STORAGE TIMES USING MTT ASSAY (구강 외 노출시간에 따른 흰쥐 치아 치주인대세포 활성도의 MTT 검색법을 이용한 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the usefulness of MTT analysis as a tool of measurement of the periodontal ligament cell viability from the extracted rat molar. A total of 80 Sprague-Dawley white female rat of 4 week-old with a body weight of 100 grams were used. The maxillary left and right, first and second molars were extracted under Ketamine anesthesia. Twenty-four teeth of each group (divided as five groups depending upon the time-lapse after extraction such as Immediate, 10, 20, 40 and 60 minutes) were immersed in $200{\mu}l$ of MTT solution (0.5 mg/ml) and processed for optical density measurements. Another 10 teeth of each group were treated as same as above and sectioned at $10{\mu}m$ for microscopic examination. All measurements values were divided by the value of hematoxylin-eosin staining which represented the volume of each corresponding samples. Immediate and 10 minute groups showed highest MTT values followed by 20, 40, and 60 minutes consecutively. Statistical significance (p<0.05) existed between all groups except in immediate versus 10 minute groups and 40 versus 60 minutes. Histological findings also showed similar findings with MTT results in crystal shape and crystal numbers between the experimental groups. These data indicate that in vivo MTT analysis nay be of value for evaluation of the periodontal ligament cell viability without time- consuming cell culturing processes.
