In this study, the different unit cement content by the ratio of water absorption and water-cement ratio are applied to examine the properties of the concrete used the aggregate recycled by the crushing treatment. According to the experimental results, in the mix of low strength and high water-cement ratio, both of the compressive strength is almost equal in the concrete using the recycled aggregate by the crushing treatment and the concrete using broken stones. It means that the recycled aggregate has the low effect of the amount of bonded mortar. But, in the mix of high strength and low water-cement ratio, the concrete using the recycled aggregate by the crushing treatment has 40% less of the compressive strength than that using broken stones by the effect of the amount of bonded mortar. On the other hand, after 8 weeks, the dry shrinkage of the recycled aggregate with 7% of the ratio of water absorption doubles that of the broken stones with 1% ($-350{\times}10^{-6}$), in other words $-700{\times}10^{-6}$. Thus, the dry shrinkage should be prior to any other conditions in recycling waste concrete for the aggregate for concrete. When the recycled aggregate with 3% of the ratio of water absorption is used, the compressive strength of the rich mix concrete ($450kg/m^3$ of the unit cement content) is equivalent to that of the concrete using broken stones, while in using the recycled aggregate with 7% of the ratio of water absorption, the rich mix concrete has 7% lower compressive strength than the concrete using broken stones. But, the compressive strength of the ordinary mix concrete ($350kg/m^3$ of the unit cement content) is far lower than that using broken stones.
This study investigated the lateral behavior of monopile embedded in the dry sand through cyclic lateral loading test using a centrifuge test. The sand sample for the experiment was the dry Jumunjin standard sand at 80% relative density and the friction angle of $38^{\circ}$. In the experimental procedure, firstly, it was determined the static lateral bearing capacity by performing the static lateral loading test to decide the cyclic load. This derived static lateral bearing capacity values of 30%, 50%, 80%, 120% were determined as the cyclic lateral load, and the number of cycle was performed 100 times. Through the results, the experiment cyclic p-y curve was calculated, and the cyclic p-y backbone curve by depth was derived using the derived maximum soil resistance point by the load. The initial slope at the same depth was underestimated than API (1987) p-y curves, and the ultimate soil resistance was overestimated than API (1987) p-y curves. In addition, the result of the comparison with the suggested dynamic p-y curve was that the suggested dynamic p-y curve was overestimated than the cyclic p-y backbone curve on the initial slope and soil resistance at the same depth. It is considered that the p-y curve should be applied differently depending on the loading conditions of the pile.
The lateral load which is applied to the pile foundation supporting the superstructure during an earthquake is divided into the inertia force of the upper structure and the kinematic force of the ground. The inertia force and the kinematic force could cause failure to the pile foundation through different complex mechanisms. So it is necessary to predict and evaluate interaction of the ground-pile-structure properly for the seismic design of the foundation. The interaction is affected by the lateral behavior of the structure, the length of the pile, the boundary conditions of the head, and the relative density of the ground. Confining pressure and ground stiffness change accordingly when the relative density changes, and it results that the coefficient of subgrade reaction varies depending on each system. Horizontal bearing behavior and capacity of the pile foundation vary depending on lateral load condition and relative density of the sandy soil. Therefore, the 1g shaking table tests were conducted to confirm the effect of the relative density of the dried sandy soil to dynamic behavior of the group pile supporting the superstructure. The result shows that, as the relative density increases, maximum acceleration of the superstructure and the pile cap increases and decreases respectively, and the slope of the p-y curve of the pile decreases.
The procedure of soil sampling for on-farm quick test of soil nitrate is very important to improve practical application without weighing or drying soil. To improve application of test strip reflectometer as a quick on-farm analytical procedure for the estimation of soil nitrate concentration, three sampling methods such as gravimetric sampling (GS), particle density sampling (PDS) and bulk density sampling (BDS) for on-farm analytical procedure were investigated with twelve soils of 45 to $281mg\;kg^{-1}$ nitrate nitrogen concentration. The nitrate nitrogen concentrations measured from different soils were compared with two analytical methods, ion electrode method as a standard laboratory analysis (SLA) and test strip reflectometer at three moisture conditions, viz. air dried soil, 20 and 40% of maximum water holding capacity (MWHC). Nitrate nitrogen concentration measured by test strip reflectometer was significantly correlated with that of SLA, and the coefficients of variation (CV) were in the range of 3.5 to 10.9%. These CV values less than 10.9% were thought to be acceptable for the measurement of soil nitrate as an on-farm real time analytical procedure. The nitrate nitrogen concentration by BDS for test strip reflectometer as well as ion electrode method was more similar to that of SLA compared with those by GS and PDS especially in case of moist soils. This result suggests that the BDS is more useful than GS and PDS in case of on-farm analytical procedure of soil nitrate for moist soils. Further the practical measurement by BDS could be improved by substituting the bottle cap with a larger container.

The oxidation of pure Sn and high Pb-Sn alloys was investigated under different oxidizing conditions of temperature and humidity. Both the chemical nature and the amount of oxides were characterized using electrochemical reduction analysis by measuring the electrolytic reduction potential and total transferred electrical charges. For pure tin, SnO grew faster under humid condition than in dry air at $85^{\circ}C$. A very thin (<10 ${\AA}$) layer of SnO, was formed on the top surface under humid condition. The mixture of SnO and $SnO_2$ was found for oxidation at $150^{\circ}C$. XPS and AES were performed to support the result of oxide reduction.

$Y_2O_3$-BN ceramic composites were fabricated from the slurries of yttria powder with average particle size of 3~10 ${\mu}m$. The slurry was fabricated by mixing PVA binder, NaOH for Ph control, PEG, BN powder and $Y_2O_3$ powder. The mixed $Y_2O_3$ powders were obtained by spray drying process from the slurry. The $Y_2O_3$-BN composite specimen was shaped in size of ${\O}14mm$ and then sintered at $1550^{\circ}C$ and $1600^{\circ}C$, respectively. The characteristics, microstructure, purities, densities, bulk resistance, thermal expansion, hardness and plasma resistance of the $Y_2O_3$-BN composites were investigated with the function of BN contents and sintering temperature.
The thin film processing and the applicability as a IMD material of SiO2 aerogels providing ultralow dielec-tric properties were studied. The SiO2 aerogel films with 0.5g/㎤ density (78% porosity) and 4000~21000$\AA$ thickness could be prepared at 25$0^{\circ}C$ and 1160 psig by supercritical drying of wet-gel films, which were spin-coated at the spin rate of 1000~7000 rpm on p-Si(111) wafer under the isopropanol atmosphere. The optimum viscosity of polymeric SiO2 sols for spin coating was in the range of 10~14 cP. The main fac-tors being able to control the film thickness and microstructures were found to be sol concentration, spin rpm, and aging time of wet-gel films. The dielectric constant of the SiO2 aerogel thin film was around 2.0 low enough to be applied to the next generation semiconductor device beyond the giga level.
In this study, relationships between CBR values tested by Korean Standards (KS CBR) and the elastic moduli from CU compression tests are developed for the subgrade soils. Triaxial compression and KS CBR tests are carried out on five types of samples from 15 points in Korean ezpressways. Triaxial compression tests are performed under 3 types of coifining pressures to generalize the CBR -elastic modulus relationship as functions of confining pressured and mean principal stresses. From the regression analyses of experimental results, equations for relationships between the KS CBR and elastic moduli of roadbed Boils are proposed. An equation for the relation- ship between the KS CBR and the maximum dry density of roadbed soil is also proposed.

The dependence of green and sintered densities of Zirconia-Toughened Alumina ($ZTA:\;Al_2O_3/\;15\;vol{%}\;ZrO_2$) on the properties of spray-dried granules was studied thoroughly to establish the optimum compaction condition leading to high reproducibility in the light of sintered density. The sphericity, mean size, degree of hollow occurrence and moisture content of spray-dried granules were largely different in between the granule containing binder and the ones with no binder. The effect of these differences in the characteristic of granules on the compaction behavior was examined in terms of the compaction pressure from 80 MPa to 120 MPa 10 MPa increment and the compaction method, i.e., uniaxial and cold isostatic pressing. This work confirmed that the reproducibility of sintered density caused by the variation of granule property could be improved by the optimization of compaction process. The variation of sintered density was controlled within 1 % deviation by compacting the granules under a relatively low pressure of 80 MPa in an uniaxial forming and subsequent cold isostatic pressing at high pressure of 500 MPa.

The paper investigates environmental hazards and characteristics of the artificial lightweight aggregate manufactured by using dyestuff sludge from dyeing industrial complex. The dyestuff sludge used in this study is chemically treated with Ti and Fe salt for the purpose of recycling. The artificial lightweight aggregate is manufactured through 3 step; 1) Selecting the optimum moisture content by evaluating plasticity from the mixing ratio of the clay and sludge, 2) shaping round type based on the optimum mixing ratio, 3) drying and Sintering process. Based on KS F 2534 "Lightweight Aggregate for Structural concrete", the particle size, fineness modulus, the density, absorption, unit volume weight, stability and environmental hazards of the manufactured lightweight aggregate are evaluated. Experimental results show that the particle size and fineness modulus is out of the range. However, it is observed that other physical properties are within criteria. In addition, it is confirmed that the problem of the particle size and fineness modulus could be solved in the manufacturing process.
