  • Today, residential building is considered of be one of the most important space of their quality of life and health. Residential buildings should provide comfortable environments to support the activities of their occupants. And good residential buildings are made by appropriately combining residential spaces, such as living room, master bedroom, bedroom, kitchen, restroom, and so on. These combinations in residential building are must be compatible with the activities of the occupants and their needs. The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze the relative importance and space priority between residential space in residential buildings depending on occupants' characteristics, such as, gender and age. Especially, this research is to find space weighting factors for integrative evaluation in residential buildings based on occupant survey. These weighting factors play an important role in determining the relative importance of various residential spaces for integrative residential space evaluation. And, the result from this research will help designers and researchers to find space planning strategies in residential building, and develop new integrative evaluation framework for improving residential quality from the occupants' point of view.

  • The Burj Dubai Project will be the tallest structure ever built by man; when completed the tower will be more than 700 meter tall and more than 160 floors. While the early integration of aerodynamic shaping and wind engineering considerations played a major role in the architectural massing and design of this multi-use/residential tower, where mitigating and taming the dynamic wind effects was one of the most important design criteria, the material selection for the structural systems of the tower was also a major consideration and required detailed evaluation of the material technologies and skilled labor available in the market at the time Concrete was selected for its strength, stiffness, damping, redundancy, moldability, free fireproofing, speed of construction, and cost effectiveness. In addition, the design challenges of using concrete for the design of the structural system components will be addressed. The focus on this paper will also be on the early planning of the concrete works of the Burj Dubai Project.

  • In South Korea, with the advancement of the 'Port' project, the regeneration industry adapted to the modern economic development has been promoted, leading to construction around the port was also redefined. Therefore, through regeneration, the problem of image construction of buildings around the port has been re-examined, in which color is an important content of image construction. In this study, the exterior walls of abandoned factory buildings in the port area of Bongnaedong, Pusan were selected as the color research object and evaluated according to the characteristics of the regenerated factory buildings combined with the building color function. Technically, KSCP color analysis system is used for color analysis. In this way, the color plan for the exterior walls of the factory buildings is proposed to visually enhance the image of abandoned factory buildings and attract more attention, thus driving the regional economic development. The results of this study show that in order to adapt to the regional, industrial and commercial characteristics of the regenerated port space, the color hue, lightness, chroma and use area of the building can be changed to enhance the aesthetic value and enhance the inductivity and security.

Luminous Environment and Light Pollution in Gas Stations with Non-cutoff Luminaires (Non-cutoff 조명기구가 설치된 주유소의 조명환경 및 빛공해 평가)

  • Lighting for gas station should be carefully designed with safety and visually attraction. Recent studies have shown that non-cutoff luminaires should not be used for gas station. duo to light pollution and energy waste. This paper aims to evaluate the luminous environment in gas station with non-cutoff luminaires. The CS-100 and Radiant Imaging Prometric-1400 were used to measure the luminance of building surface, canopy, ceiling and ground surface. The result shows that the whole luminance of various combination elements in gas station increases by rising the total luminaires of the canopy. All of the gas stations with non-cutoff luminaries produce light pollution. Some guidelines for outdoor lighting in gas station is necessary.

  • The pedestrian space on the roads shows virtually different images, depending on the local uniqueness that exists in the roadsides, to the one walking. This sort of characteristics of the region originated from the physical special structures of the roadside building the form of the place. Thus, because of the structural difference of the roadside, Pedestrian sense the difference of regions through other images. Research focused on issues of the local roadside sidewalk spaces as what roadside structure is the type that brings out the unique images of the region, and what facets are pursued additionally here, is needed. A roadside of a prosperous region filled with many Pedestrians is selected as the range for the experiment in order to analyze the structure and image of the pedestrian space. Among the roads of the selected region, the structure of the pedestrian space on the roads with more than four lanes was evaluated. As result of the analysis, the images of 10 pedestrian space could be classified into two groups by the difference in proportions of the Df/H(the width of the sidewalk and the height of the roadside building) and the D/H(the width of the road and the height of the roadside building). In order to observe the images of the pedestrian space classified into two groups, the adjectives used to describe the image of scenery were researched, enabling one to induce the images of the two groups form them. One of the images is the image of prosperities, and the other is the image of pleasantness. In addition, as result to the evaluation focused on the characteristic of the roadside buildings in the selected area, it could be divided into two groups, i.e., the commercial region and the business region. The image of prosperities was sensed on the sidewalks of the commercial region, while the image of pleasantness was seen on that of the business region. This study enabled the acknowledgment that in a pedestrian space on a road structure with more than four lanes, the Pedestrian sense different images, depending on the proportional difference in the width of the sidewalk & the height of the roadside building, and the width of the road & the height of the roadside building. This result is expected to be a good reference when a road structure reflecting the uniqueness of its region is to be designed, and especially when the structure of a pedestrian space is to be created.

An Analytic Study on the Image of the long-span Structural Types (대형공간 구조형식별 이미지 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze the image of long-span structures. For the intention, it analyzes the relationship between images and physical attributions of elements such as materials, stresses, configurations, compositions and shapes of structures. The image of structures can represent following 5 factors; friendly-unfriendly, strong-weak, dynamic-calm, superior-inferior, and regular-irregular. The friendly-unfriendly in the image of structure mostly determines on a finished material and partly with a structural shape. The strong-weak in the image of structure determines on configuration of the structural members. The dynamic-calm in the image of structure determines on the structural shape. Hence the structure has dynamic forms when it seems to be open and sharp, namely when it receives the flow of forces in the structural shape, and it has a (-) gauss curved rate or an diagonal appearance. The superior-inferior in the image of structure determines on composition of structural elements. The structure seems to be superior is contributed not simply to support load but positively to create design as a tectonic element. From now on, this study can provide the useful information on the long-span structure design through the more appropriate analysis of the image.

An Analysis on the Visual Harmony of the Environmental Sculpture in Urban Streetscapes (도시가로 경관에 있어 환경조형물의 시각적 조화성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the basic guideline of the environmental sculptures to improve the quality level of the urban surroundings. The concept of the environmental sculptures was established and their roles in urban street scenary were investigated. And then, the relationships between the visual satisfaction and the elements which affect the visual harmony of Urban street scenary were analysed. The result of this study can be summarized as follows; The visual satisfaction was shown high at the sculptures itself with good shape and esthetic sense, and the harmony among the surroundings was estimated highly at the sculptures of good harmony with the floor surface, building and the elements surrounded it. And the highest satisfaction was shown at the scenary with the dean images and visual stability. The correlation of the degree of satisfaction with 5 variables which effect the satisfaction of urban streetscape shows that the harmony of shape is the most important variable for urban street scenary.

  • Lighting is one of the largest energy consumption in commercial building. For saving such lighting energy, integrated lighting system with daylight and artificial lighting has been suggested. In such system, perimeter zone can be illuminated by daylighting and the deep area of room by artificial lighting. So, the study aimed to develope of lighting energy prediction nomograph by turnning-off depth and lighting control systems during daytime. For the purpose, energy nomo-graph has been developed to apply to side-lit office building and the use and limitation of the nomograph has been discussed.

  • This study analyses the historical and cultural streets at Pinggang Road in the city of Suzhou, by understanding the development and conservation of the area, and uses the following ways to investigate its development, re-organization, and current state. This paper comprehensively compares, collates and investigates 4 different historical and cultural areas in Insadong and Samcheong-dong in South Korea, and South Luogu Lane in China. From initial research and analysis, this paper gathers the cultural, economic, and societal perspectives as non-physical measures, and spatial structure, road structure, and building maintenance as physical factor framework. It is significant in that it can provide an evaluation model for the preservation and regeneration of historical and cultural streets by presenting the viewpoint of complex development of non-physical and physical elements in Pyeonggang-ro. In addition, it is necessary to conduct optimization and specific research on insufficient areas, such as maintenance and development of programs and signature systems for visitors, and continuous development of historical and cultural network platforms by combining on-site surveys. Basic data should be provided for reference on the street.

A Study on the correlation between a streetscape image and a signboard density - Focused on roadside buildings occupation density of signboard in the business area - (가로경관이미지와 간판밀도와의 상관관계에 관한 연구 - 상업지역 연도건물의 간판 점유밀도를 중심으로 -)

  • The street image in a business area is so much affected by Facade that the front side of a roadside building makes. Recently, for the indiscreet and intemperate advertising signboard of the front side of roadside buildings, a streetscape becomes more disordered than before, so now we need to do research about signboards of roadside buildings for a streetscape image. In this research, we focused on a streetscape with difference of occupation density of signboard in the business area via investigation and analysis about occupation density of signboards of the front side of roadside buildings, and we suggested optimum occupation density of signboards for supporting the road image positively. An object of research is the street in the business area that has many pedestrians and active passing zone of cars. We investigated and analyzed how to feel street images on the rate of occupation density of roadside building's signboards of in the chosen street. As a result of using an adjective that we use for estimating street view images for extraction of street images, we could know 2 factors. We named that one is the image of recognition, and the other is the image of feelings. We knew that signboard density of street of heavily recognized images is from 20% to 30% and, signboard density of street of heavily feeling images is from 50% to 60%. We also could know that people feel both images of recognition and images of feeling in specific density, 30 to 50%. Through this result of research, we can suggest Facade on signboard density with the recognition and the feeling and use images of the street view as materials to be more specific and more special.
