Analysis of the Wireless Communication Environment in the Narrowed Residential Space for the Fire fighting Operation (소방작전을 위한 협소거주 공간의 무선 통신 환경 분석)

  • Recently, Population has been concentrated in cities due to rapid economic growth. As a result, urban buildings are becoming more dense, high-rise, and diversified. The shape of these urban buildings increases the risk of fire, accidents and crime. The narrow living space has the characteristic of the unchanged floor. In case of a fire, the living space of the narrow residence is large in the damage because the smoke diffusion rate is fast. The radio wave transmittance and transmission distance of wireless communication used in fire fighting operations vary depending on the type of building materials and buildings. Therefore, this paper analyzes the building materials and structural characteristics of the narrow residential space for efficient fire fighting operations. We have developed a communication environment solution for a narrow residential space for the optimal fire fighting operation through the measurement of the radio wave transmittance and the transmission distance of the wireless communication.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out perception types of related groups - service providers, welfare public servants and advocates of disabled people - on the residential care home for disabled people. For this purpose, this study adopted Q-methodology which is developed mainly to study on the subjective conceptualization of related people on research theme. This study found out four major types of perception on residential care home for disabled people, which are the types of focusing specialization and professionalization of care home, valuing on user participation on daily decision making, requesting similar style of care home with normal family home. insisting on abolishment of all kinds of residential care home. This research finding can be used to make clear understanding on diverse voices of related groups about residential care home for disabled people. This kind of understanding would contribute to mutual understanding and clear communication to arrive positive consensus related to the matters of residential care services for the disabled people.

The Comparative Analysis of Satisfaction Degree among Local Residents, Domestic and Foreign Tourists : The Case of Baekje Cultural Tourism Festival (축제방문객의 집단별 만족도 비교 연구 -제57회 백제문화제를 중심으로-)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to find out the characteristics of foreign tourists comparing to Korean and how they evaluate the festival respectively. Data were collected during the 57th Baekje cultural tourism festival. The total of 674 sample sizes was collected during the festival, of which 558 respondents were domestic visitors, and 116 were foreign visitors. The empirical results showed that domestic visitors and foreign visitors are different in terms of the perception of performance evaluation, and satisfaction. Especially foreigners' degrees of satisfaction proved to be higher than those of koreans. It also expects the result of the study contribute to the development of efficient festival management policies and programs and facilities to meet the goals of cultural tourism festivals. Besides, the outcome of this research may be useful to other festivals and their future operation.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the residential institutions for the disabled in Korea on the base of welfare rights, and to propose some actual ways for improvement. For this, we analyzed the attributes of the residential institutions for the disabled in Korea. The results shows that the residential institutions for the disabled in Korea are characterized by massiveness, isolation, inequality in power, and no choice. For improvement we suggested that the residential institutions for the disabled should be run by the principles of supplement, normalization, inter-reliance, and individualization. In order to achieve these goals, the government has to invest the needs for de-institutionalization of the users, run the institutions on the smaller scale and replace them in communities, and systemize the person-centered support and service provision processes. In addition to them, the managers of the institutions should try to socialize the institutions, and to increase the participation of the users in management.

A Study on Veblen Effect according to Residence Estate: Focused on Conspicuous Consumption (주거용부동산의 거주유형에 따른 베블런효과에 관한 연구: 과시소비성향을 중심으로)

  • Recently, middle and low social class entered in the upper class for the specific reasons and joined reference group in order to present demonstration effect. This phenomenon was assumed the consumer's desire for housing estate not from the leisure class. The superiority which feels belong to reference group, that was able to purchase high price product and the competence which can afford a high price goods are effective in housing estate. The study had been researched for Veblen effect according to residence estate. The partial least squares path modeling was used for Veblen effect affected by various psychological attributes, housing patterns and demographics for analysis. As a result, the conspicuous consumption from tenants was higher than residents, the social face sensitivity affected positively for self esteem and housing pattern, therefore, it caused conspicuous consumption. Moreover, we found conspicuous consumption had been increased followed by more spacious housing and higher income.

  • This study aims to analysis of determinants of the residents satisfaction of purchased rental housing and currently being implemented policy of supporting low-income families are empirically evaluated through the residential evaluation of purchased rental housing residents. Purchased rental housing users are possible to live in currently residing community consistently, have advantages for fewer problems of the phenomenon of social isolation, exclusion and preventing slumism of low-income families, are expected to increase in the future. First of all, the characteristics of residential environment, housing expenses and a head of household were examined for the residential environment evaluation of the residents of purchased rental housing, on the basis of this, the characteristics of internal and external house and residential location are examined each for the determinants of the residential environment satisfaction of purchased rental housing. The variables that affect residential satisfaction according to residential location are public facilities, educational facilities and welfare facilities respectively. In particular, the higher the satisfaction of access to welfare facilities, the higher the satisfaction of residential location of purchased rental housing was analyzed. The variables affecting the residential satisfaction according to the internal and external characteristics of house are significant in window status, cracking, heating facilities, housing scale and management.

Analysis of the Location Characteristics of Urban Silver Towns (도시형 실버타운의 입지특성 분석 연구)

  • Unlike the past, the elderly who are growing rapidly in Korea are called 'active seniors'. They prefer to live in urban silver towns despite high living cost and make their own new urban contents. The new urban contents that reflect the living characteristics of active seniors have an important impact on their choice of residential location. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the location characteristics of urban silver towns, which are preferred as the main residence of active seniors, based on the urban living contents of active seniors. The location characteristics of urban silver towns considering the urban living contents of active seniors can be classified 1) public transportation, 2) nearby arterial roads, 3) culture shopping facilities, 4) medical facilities, 5) apartment complexes, and 6) natural environments. Especially, the accessibilities of medical facilities, apartment complexes, and culture shopping facilities were the main characteristics of urban silver towns. The results of this study are expected to be helpful not only the location of urban silver towns, which is the urban new content of active senior, but also for the policy on housing for the elderly.

A Study on the Effectiveness of Supply and Evaluation of Residential Intention for Long-term Secured Public Rental Housing (장기안심주택 공급 실효성과 거주의사 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study is conducted to evaluate the supply effectiveness of the Long-term Secured Public Rental Housing (LSPRH) program implemented by the City of Seoul since March, 2012. To estimate the residential intention of potential applicants for the housing program, two logistic regression models of residential intention are estimated based on the residential characteristics of real residents. The purpose of this model estimation is to find out factors influencing the supply of LSPRH and thus to suggest the ideas for improving the effectiveness of the rental housing program operation. The analysis result shows that financial condition, income level, and public support are the major determinants for selecting LSPRH. It is also revealed that those who are currently living in rental housing or living in a house more expensive than those in nearby areas have higher residential intention for the LSPRH program. The result also presents that some problems associated with the traditional rental housing programs - such as visually recognizable low-quality exterior building design or the concentration of rental housing on limited spots - could be solved by this new type of public housing program. Lastly, one interesting finding different from previous research is that people with the intention to move into either traditional rental housing or LSPRH do not necessarily prefer a more spacious house than their current rental house.

A Study on the Residential Environment and Residents' Consciousness of the Housing Complex Located in Waterfront -Focusing on Nishimiyahama and the southern part of Lake Biwa, Japan- (워터프런트에 입지하는 주거단지의 거주환경과 거주자의식에 관한 연구 -일본 니시미야하마지역과 비와코남부지역을 중심으로-)

  • The residential complexes in waterfront provide the residents with pleasantness and comfort with their scenety and view in the surrounding watersides. However, it is currently true that there has little been established any designing plan utilizing the environmental characteristics of the waterfront. In this study, a survey was conducted on the residents of a Japanese waterfront. in Nishimiyahama and Lake Biwa, and conducted a comparative and analytic investigation regarding water-friendly activities, residents' consciousness of the housing environment, and reasons for the choice of residenve. From the results, we were able to obtain some suggestive points resulting from the differences of the aforementioned. We also fully comprehended that there are some issues and needs for solution for the environmental characteristics in the waterfront as well as for the damage incurred by salt breeze and insects. In addition, we realized that scenery and view toward watersides are becoming the important factors in the residents' consciousness regarding the housing environment. In case of planning housing complexes located in the waterfront, we keenly understood that "the size of a room", "ventilation", "view and daily lighting", and "securing privacy" are having effects on the residents' consciousness of their housing.

A Comparative Study on the Travel Behavior of Residents by Housing Types and Implication Deduction for TOD Implementation (TOD구현을 위한 주택유형별 거주자의 통행행태 비교 분석 및 시사점도출)

  • Recently, urban and transportation planning for Transit Oriented Development(TOD) has become a major issue. For the effective policy implementation of TOD, it is important to understand the travel behavior of residents in housing areas. In this study, we compared the travel behaviors of residents by housing types based on 'the 2010 Household Travel Survey Data' focusing on metropolitan areas. By building an estimation model for subway trip frequency by housing types, it was identified that the factors influencing subway trips and ultimately suggested implications to increase the use of the subway. The highest share of bus mode was for detached house residents with 22.8%, whereas the share of subway mode was highest by efficiency apartment residents with 17.5%. Walking distance to the subway from efficiency apartment and row house were verified as 661meters and 749meters. As the residents of each housing type have more cars and bicycles, their subway trips were decreased. It was also found that subway trips were increased when the population density of residence was high with good accessibility to subway stations and poor accessibility to bus service. In this study, the statistical findings to differentiate the planning factors of public transportation by housing types were also provided. The results of this study would be used for urban design considering the travel behaviors of residents by housing types and can also be utilized for promoting the patronage of public transportation. Some limitations and a future research agenda have also been discussed.
