  • This study introduces strengths theory, a core subject of career development and job-getting, and discusses about the factors of strengths(namely talents, knowledge and skills), the processes of strengths personalization, and generating employability. It searches for opportunities to apply the concept of employability to the field of Library and Information Science now thrown under hard pressure from information and communication technology. Employability is defined here as competence to make oneself employable as needed by discovering or creating work opportunities using one's own tested personalized strengths. Employability is a package of systematically organized information about the essential abilities and productive personalities of a person, and it is essential to be duly cognitive of one's employability if one seriously intends to succeed in jobs and career. Since generation of employability heavily involves complex processes of information and knowledge-making, expertise from LIS, particularly from areas of personal information management(PIM) and personal knowledge management(PKM), is expected to help for process facilitation.

As a result, categories were derived from 17 sub-factors, 5 factors, and 5 factors were found to make good habits, make my own weapons, think positively, simplify and maintain good condition. The five factors shown in the results are used as strengths when they are voluntarily done, and these strengths create a chance and vitality for players to truly like their sport. • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to develop the Korean Strength Scale and to examine its validity and reliability. Methods : The Korean Strength Scale is a self-report questionnaire that measures 25 valued strengths and is comprised of 124 items ; each item had a 0-5 rating on a 6-point scale. In order to test validity and reliability, data were collected from 355 adults. The measures included the Korean Strength Scale, HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI), Satisfaction with life scale (SWLS), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and Orientations to Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Results : The resulting exploratory factor analysis of the Korean Strength Scale suggested 4 factor structures. The Korean Strength Scale was shown to have acceptable psychometric properties, including acceptable internal-consistency reliabilities, factorial validity, and high convergent correlations. Conclusion : Although there is room on improvement for some facet scales, the Korean Strength Scale appears to be a useful tool for assessing an individual's signature strengths.

  • The research aimed to investigate characteristics of middle school students enrolled in a science gifted education center affiliated with university in terms of multiple intelligence, self-regulated learning and personality traits. The 89 subjects in the study responded to questionnaires of multiple intelligence, self-regulated learning ability and a personality trait in October, 2011. It was found that both science and math gifted students presented intrapersonal intelligence as strength and logical-mathematical intelligence as weakness. While physics and earth science gifted ones showed spatial intelligence as strength, chemistry and biology gifted ones did intrapersonal intelligence. For self-regulated learning ability, both science and mathematics gifted students tend to show higher levels than general students, in particular, cognitive and motivation strategies comparatively higher than meta-cognition and environment condition strategies. Characteristics of personal traits widely distributed across science and mathematics gifted students, showing that each gifted student presented distinct characteristics individually. Those gifted students showing certain intelligence such as spatial, intrapersonal, or natural intelligences as strength also showed different characteristics of self-regulated learning ability and personal traits among students showing same intelligence as strength. It was concluded that science and mathematics gifted students showed various characteristics of multiple intelligences, self-regulated learning ability, and personal traits across science and mathematics areas.

  • This study aims to examine life experiences of single mothers according to three types of single parent families, divorced, widowed and unmarried and how they cope with their difficulties to become self-reliant and to identify strengths promoting self-reliance. The researchers analyzed personal, environmental and life factors by using the strengths perspective and discovered distinctive features of three types of single mothers that promote self-reliance. Data were collected by in-depth interviews with 20 single mothers, 4 widows, 8 divorced mothers and 8 unmarried single mothers. The results show that participants defined their experiences of self-reliance as a process to increase capability to accomplish their responsibilities as a mother, rather than as a completed goal. Increasing capability not only means achieving economic self-sufficiency, but also gaining psychosocial strengths that are developed by embracing one's own life, having sense of control and empowerment. This study identified commonalities and differences of strengths and resources and unique experiences of participants and proposed implications for policy and practice related to the roles of service delivery and support system.
