  • The purpose of this study is to theorize the conceptualizations of educational interest focused on mathematics learning and to investigate the directions of increasing students' interest in mathematics. This study reconsiders the interest theory of Dewey, classification of situational interest and individual interest, and the experimental research of mathematical interest. The conceptions of educational interest on mathematics learning are as follows. First, mathematical interest refers to the total experiences that an individual feels the need to engage in mathematical objects. Second, making a distinction between situational interest and individual interest is effective in suggesting educational interventions in order to improve students' learning interest. Third, interest is characterized by affect, cognition, and value. According to the conceptions of educational interest on mathematics learning, this study suggests that we should develop or construct good mathematics tasks to increase students' interest in mathematics. Good mathematics tasks consider both students' understanding and students' affection and provide activity's goals or values to be noticed by students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine personal characteristics of two elementary students who developed individual interest in science. 201 students of two elementary schools in Seoul participated in questionnaire survey engaged in to investigate students' interest in science, engagements and preference in science-related-activities three times a year. This case study was conducted with seven students who showed typical types of interest in science. Students wrote a photo-journal for 12 weeks. They were interviewed every other week by a researcher. We analyzed two students who developed individual interest. It turns out that RF participated in doing experiments at home, and disassembling and assembling things. Participation of activities was a process of solving curiosity. When he was unable to solve problems, he searches the internet or books. Sometimes he would ask for help from his teacher. JW engaged in activities: drawing, doing experiments at home, and going to informal education center. She communicated with others by using online-offline media. Curious questions were solved by herself. The two students have a tendency to solve problems by themselves. Also, positive science-related activities were going on at home and in school. This study not only give insights and understanding of students who developed individual interest in science but also provide implication for educators to examine personal characteristics of students.

  • Although academic interest, the intersection of cognition, emotion, and motivation, is a primary goal of learning and mediates the effects of learning, the present learning environment is full of impeding factors which undermine learner's interests in learning situation. The purpose of this study is to examine current state of academic interests of Korean students and to identify several potential causes of developmental declines in academic interests. It has been consistently found that academic interests in various school subjects decrease with age and grade in school. Three potentially contributing factors to the observed loss of academic interests are mainly discussed: deprived autonomy, severe competition, and normative evaluation. Based on theories on interest and motivation, and empirical findings, various prescriptions are also suggested for designing an interest-based learning environment in order to trigger and enhance learner's academic interests.

  • Recently. many researches on the personalization of a web-site have been actively made. The web personalization predicts the sets of the most interesting URLs for each user through data mining approaches such as clustering techniques. Most existing methods using clustering techniques represented the web transactions as bit vectors that represent whether users visit a certain WRL or not to cluster web transactions. The similarity of the web transactions was decided according to the match degree of bit vectors. However, since the existing methods consider only whether users visit a certain URL or not, users' interestingness on the URL is excluded from clustering web transactions. That is, it is possible that the web transactions with different visit proposes or inclinations are classified into the same group. In this paper. we propose an enhanced transaction modeling with interestingness weight to solve such problems and a new similarity measuring method that exploits the proposed transaction modeling. It is shown through performance evaluation that our similarity measuring method improves the accuracy of the web transaction clustering over the existing method.

  • With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution modern society demands global convergence talent with expertise. The purpose of this study is to suggest the Person-organizational Fit can be enhanced only when university institutions enhance the learning flow and learning interest of Chinese students. Only when the suitability of Chinese students and Univ. is good will it be of great help to the educational performance and administrative management of international students, and the learning atmosphere and university image can be promoted. However, international students with excessive self-efficacy may have a negative effect on Person-organizational Fit to making it difficult to educate and manage students. On the other hand, for international students with low self-efficacy, the higher the immersion in learning, the higher the individual-organization (Univ) suitability.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept concerned with Earth's rotation as passed by tenth graders whose interest in earth's rotation and learning styles were varied. To examine student's interest in the Earth's rotation, 4students (visual-verbal learning style student with much interest, visual learning style student with much interest, visual learning style student with little interest, and verbal learning style student with little interest) were chosen for study. Personal interview was used for this study. To probe students' conception in varied ways, they were allowed to make gesture and draw pictures through data collection process, except for interviews. And the data were analyzed one by one. The result of this study were as follows: First, the student with much interest was faster to answer the questions about Earth's rotation than the one with little interest. Also he comprehended better and was able to explain reasons coherently. Second, there was little difference according to student's learning style. Third, one of the repeated misconception was direction. For thinking that is the right side is the east side, students have misconception that the sun goes from right to left and stars in north sky move clock-wise.
