The purpose of this study is to characterize damage propagation in granite which exists in South Korea. Coarse, medium and fine-grained granite specimens were sampled respectively In order to perform this study, elastic wave velocity test and permeability test were carried out to estimate the physical specificities of specimens before and after damage. Cellulose acetate film duplication method was used to select only cracks from cross section and to make these visible. Using dark-field illumination, approach photographing technique was used to get more distinct photographs of cracks from acetate peel. Computer programs named Photoshop were used to describe cracks. After damage, coarse and medium-grained granite had lower elastic wane velocity, higher permeability, more cracks and more distinct shear fractures than fine-grained granite.
A rapid BOD measurement system using a microbial membrane electrode has been developed. Culture of microorganism and the preparation of microbial membrane, the effect of sample flow rate on the BOD measurement, the effect of solution pH and response characteristics of the microbial membrane electrode were investigated. The rapid BOD measurement system developed by us was connected to a personal computer and the whole BOD measurement procedures were carried out automatically. The best results were obtained when the solution flow rate was 7.8mL/min and the data were obtained 5 minutes after sample injection.

A glow discharge atomic absorption system for the direct analysis of conducting solid samples has been designed and constructed. An arrestor made of machinable ceramic which is a main component for confining the discharge between cathode and anode is modified to have a better stability in discharge. Discharge voltage or current, shape of arrestor, pressure, and gas flow rate can be controlled by an ADC/DAC board with a personal computer. The effect of discharge parameters such as discharge voltage, pressure, and gas flow rate on the sample loss rate, absorbance, and the surface morphology of sample by SEM has been studied to find optimum discharge conditions.

The olfactory function of subjects could be different due to various factors such as aging, and such discrepancies influence on the olfactory sensibility. Therefore, the objectives of this study was to investigate changes of olfactory sensibility characteristics and structure in relation to the consideration of olfactory threshold of subject. Stimulants of this study were five standard odor samples of T&T olfactometer, and thirty undergraduates over than 19 years old were tested twice during this study In experiment 1, subjects were given to odor samples which were controlled on the basis of individual olfactory threshold. Whereas, subjects were provided with uncontrolled odor samples which had the same concentration(+1) in experiment 2. Olfactory sensibility characteristics were significantly different with presentation types of odor samples, and these gaps were more higher on condition that the preference of odor sample was not distinct. Moreover, such differences affected the olfactory sensibility structure, and 'esthetic sense', 'intensity', and 'activity' were common factors, but 'friendship' of experiment 1 and 'weight' of experiment 2 were unique factors. In conclusion, the olfactory sensibility characteristics and structure could be different with consideration of olfactory threshold of subject. Overall, this study suggest that the olfactory function and the presentation method of odor sample be regarded as principal consideration factors in the olfactory sensibility evaluation.
A great number of geological research data have been produced by individually conducted researchers and then personally stored in domestic universities and research institutes. However, it is difficult to share data with other researchers owing to low and limited accessibility. The purpose of this study is to systematically establish metadata for inaccessible data, to manage them collectively and to provide opportunities for utilizing the data to those who require efficient research methods. Approximately 1,000 geological specimens (900 rocks and fossils, 100 thin sections) were gathered, along with their metadata such as high-resolution photographs, classification, name, owner, address, and geographical coordinates of the sample site, to establish their features. Additionally, 3D modeling data for 100 rocks and fossils were generated. On the basis of this study, it is possible for researchers to access and share crucial geological data that have a high potential to be lost and have been neglected in restricted spaces; by avoiding the wasted time, energy, and costs caused by repetitive collection of data, researchers may perform effective research and achieve qualified and competitive research results. Moreover, vulnerable and important geological data in the field can be protected from damage caused by indiscriminate, repetitive collection of specimens that have previously been secured. Through the establishment of additional metadata concerning the diversity of rocks, fossils, and thin sections kept at other universities and research institutes, much more data can be recognized, leading to advanced research results. Furthermore, specialized comparison and analysis of basic mineralogy and petrology knowledge are anticipated, based on the use of the metadata.

There is personal difference in the concentrations of trace elements in human hair according to human life or history suck as occupation, race, sex, age, food habit, social condition and so on. It is also found that the individual's deviation of elemental concentrations is reflecting the degree of environmental pollutants exposure to human body, intakes of food and metabolism. To compare the degree of accumulation in the hair tissue, human hair samples were collected from five positions of head and analyzed by non-destructive neutron activation analysis with and without washing according to IAEA's recommended method. Analytical quality control is performed using the certified reference material. The relative error of Cu, Cr, Na, Co, Mg, As, Se, Zn and those of Mn, Ca, Fe, Sr are within ${\pm}5%$ and ${\pm}10%$, respectively and the relative standard deviation of elements are within ${\pm}10%$. The deviations between the individuals and hair sampling positions were estimated. The deviation of individual was seven times more than that of positions. Under the defined condition, the difference and the correlation of elemental concentrations were compared with two different groups, office and factory workers. The result can be used as a fundamental data for human health and environment assessment.
