Experimental Study for Capability of Air Slot in Siphon Spillway to Control Outflow Discharge (사이펀 여수로 공기혼입장치(air slot)의 방류량 조절 능력에 대한 실험 연구)

  • In this study, capability of an air slot in a siphon spillway for controlling outflow discharge is investigated through hydraulic experiments. Arc and rectangular shapes of air slot are considered and the open area of air slot can be varied. Complex air-regulated flow occurs inside of the siphon spillway when the air slot is installed on it. The same discharge is measured at the same water level inside the reservoir when the water level rises or falls. Nondimensional discharge through the siphon spillway decreases as nondimensional open area of the air slot increases when head differences and water levels of reservoir are constant. The hydraulic experiments show that the control of outflow discharge of siphon spillway is possible by controlling the open area of the air slot.

Design of the Near Field Microwave Guide Type of Probe Having Enhanced High Transmission Efficiency and Smaller Beam Spot Area (고 투과 효율과 소형 빔 스팟 면적을 갖는 근접장 마이크로웨이브 도파관 탐침의 설계)

  • In this article, we propose a near field microwave scanning probe structure in which two short conducting rods are attached to the center of the ridged(H-type) aperture, thereby reducing significantly the beam spot area while maintaining the high transmission efficiency through the output coupling H-type(ridged) aperture. Here the two short parallel conducting rods seem to play an important role of concentrating the transmitted electromagnetic energy through the H-type aperture and so reducing the beam area for high resolution. For validation of the proposed theory, the near field waveguide probe is fabricated according to the simulated results and its return loss characteristics versus frequencies are measured. The comparison between theory and experiment is seen to be in good agreements.

Wind Tunnel Investigation of Fluctuating Pressure Inside Building (풍하중에 의한 건물내부 압력의 동적변화에 관한 연구)

  • The nature of fluctuating air pressure inside building was studied by testing a building model in a wind tunnel. The model has a single room and a window opening. Various opening conditions were tested in both laminar uniform wind and turbulent boundary-layer wind. The RMS and the spectra of the fluctuating internal pressure were measured. The test results support a recent theory which predicts the behavior of internal pressure under high wind based on aerodynamic analysis.

  • The knowledge of air flow in an engine room has become more and more important in recent car design. The fluid flow in the engine compartment was investigated by numerical analysis. Due to the complex geometry of the engine compartment, mesh generation is a time-consuming job. In this research, the "ICEM" code was used to generate meshes by the Cartesian mesh model. The Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes equations, together with the porous flow model for radiator and condenser, were solved. Computation was performed for the steady, incompressible, and high speed viscous flow, adopting the standard K-ε turbulence model. The "STAR-CD" code was used as a solver. The effect of car front openning area on the flow in engine room was also investigated.

  • The purpose of this paper is pulsation-analysis of the swash plate type axial piston pump for excavator and the method of side branch hose application, which is used normally in construction equipments. In this paper, draw the mathematical modeling for pressure pulsation mechanism of the swash plate type axial piston pump for excavator, expression the flow pulsation in the pipelines by transfer matrix method, programmed simulation for pulsation by AMEsim software, and the reliability of that was verified by the comparison with the experimental results.

  • For the purpose of development of high performance gasoline engine, the design technique of the 5-valve(3 intake valves) combustion chamber for a subcompact vehicle has been studied. 3 intake valves cylinder heads were designed by using a 3-dimension CAD program, and steady state flow experiments have been performed with these model. The 5-valve engines, which have larger valve opening areas, have larger intake flow rates and higher flow coefficient than the 4-valve engines. The effects of intake port design parameters of a 5-valve engine on the intake flow rate and bore size were studied, and the design guidelines for the 5-valve engine were established.

  • 설치의 법적규제가 없는 수배전반용 개별식 자동소화장치의 경우, 소화약제량 산정시 설계자마다 체적당 소요가스량, 개구부 면적, 개구면적당 가산량을 다르게 적용하여 같은 크기의 panel 인데도 소화약제량이 다르게 산정되는 경우가 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 수배전반 및 전동기 기동반용 개별식 자동소화장치를 위한 청정소화약제량(HFC-227ea)을 산정하기 위해 NFPA, NFSC를 비교분석하여 최적의 소화약 제량 산정식을 도출하였다.

  • The recent trend of higher output engines with more auxiliary parts is resulting in greater heat generation in the engine compartment. In order to maximize the heat dissipation and eliminate the inefficient flow in the engine compartment, it is necessary to understand the flow field under the hood. In this respect, experimental study as well as numerical analysis should be conducted. The automated measuring system was constructed to obtain three dimensional mean flow data with high accuracy. The measurements have been made on a vehicle with a steady incoming air flow. The result shows that there exists a high degree of non-uniformity in the mean flow velocity at the front of radiator.

  • The pressure ripple in most hydraulic systems is the root cause of their noise and vibration. This paper reduced the pressure ripple using side branch hose for an axial piston pump applied to small excavator. First, in calculating open area, a new method using groove area of valve plate is proposed. Simulation model in AMESim environment is developed to verify proposed method, find effective length and diameter of branch hose. Finally, the comparisons with experiment results show that the proposed method is more effective than previous method in reducing the pressure ripple.

Influence of Openings on the Structural Behavior of Shear Walls with Slabs (슬래브가 있는 전단벽의 구조적 거동에 대한 개구부의 영향)

  • An experimental investigation was conducted with half-scale representations of the reinforced concrete shear walls with the opening subjected to cyclic loads. Specimens were half scale representations of a one-story wall in the apartment built in 1980. The area ratio of the opening section, as well as the size and critical section of coupling slabs, were decided based on results from a previous researches. The test result of WS-0.23 specimen, which has artificial damages to install the opening, the strength of the wall decreased due to the opening. It is apparent that influence of cutting reinforcing bars and decrease of effective section area lead to early first yield of the reinforcing bars before the allowable limit of drift ratio of the shear walls was reached. Therefore, proper reinforcing method is needed to prevent this. The decrease of strength of the shear walls by installation of openings shows a great deal of difference compared to previous researches. This is because flexural capacity of the slabs is working as coupling elements for the shear walls. The critical section of coupling slabs that works as coupling elements for shear walls was a little different from the results of previous researches.
