  • A geometric non-linear finite element formulation of spatial ocean cable under currents is presented using multiple noded curved cable elements. Tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the isoparametric cable ele¬ment are derived and the initial equilibrium state of ocean cable subjected to self-weights, buoyancy, and current as well as support motions is determined using the load incremental method. Free vibration analysis of ocean cables is performed based on the initial equilibrium configuration. Numerical examples are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate dynamic characteristics of ocean cables.

  • This research aimed to fabricate a micro structure using micro electrochemical machining (${\mu}$-ECM). with a view to that the theory of ${\mu}$-ECM is established accurately in a different way of conventional electrochemical machining. In details, if the impedance is existed in the system, it is difficult to analyze the micro electrochemical reaction efficiently in polarization curve using a potentiodynamic test. Hence, this research investigates the relationships between impedance and electric current measuring with a potentiostatic test applying to a pair or electrode as a constant potential. And this paper examines the influence of temperature of electrolyte on polarization curve for the quantitative analysis of electrochemical reactions.

  • Recently, turbomachine blades are becoming larger and more flexible, it is necessary to calculate natural frequencies of a rotating blades for avoiding resonance. This problem is complicated by the fact that blades are tapered, twisted and curved. To keep with this demands, the designer must rely on more exact methods of calculation. In this paper, natural frequencies of a single straight or curved blade with variable R.P.M. are calculated by a stiffness matrix method. Results of investigation on the correspondence between the calculated and other values of the literature are described. The calculated values are agree with the other values but with a small error. Furthermore, the influence of Coriolis force on the natural frequency for rotating, curved turbo blades is described.

  • Instrumented indentation tests have been used for estimating material properties. In order to analyze deformation characteristics with various factors, the unloading stiffness should be properly determined from the elastic behavior. The unloading stiffness is generally obtained from the shifted power functions fitting with the experimental unloading data. However, the functions often give rise to a poor representation of actual data, and also the unloading stiffness is governed by unloading condition. In this study, both numerical and experimental conditions to obtain proper unloading stiffness were investigated. The result showed that the amount of unloading ratio and hold time played an important role in fitting the unloading curves. The current efforts can successfully provide the unloading stiffness for indentation material properties.

  • This paper investigates the characteristics of deflection for circular plate that has same supporting condition along the width direction of plate according to the area change of supporting end. For two boundary conditions such as simple supporting and clamping on both ends, this study derives maximum deflection formula of circular plate using differential equation of elastic curve, assuming that a circular plate is a beam with different widths along the longitudinal direction. The deflection formula of circular plate is verified by carrying out finite element analysis with regard to the ratio of length of supporting part to radius of circular plate.

  • The performance for the algorithm of the arc length method has been examined in terms of the choice of the tangential stiffness matrix through the analysis for the snap buckling phenomenon of the arch beam. The curved beam element with 2 nodes including shear effect has been formed by strain element technique and then it has been used in this nonlinear analysis. Snap-through characteristics has been examined with respect to the ratios of the arch beam length to hight.

  • A mathematical hysteretic model has been developed to analytically reproduce the experimental hysteretic behavior of reinforced concrete members. This mode[2, 3] can simulate the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete members with sufficient accuacy, which are characterized by following important hysteretic behaviors: stiffness degradation, strength deterioration and shear effect. In order to illustrate the capabilities of the proposed mathematical model, numerical examples are presented with the reproduction of experimental hysteretic behavior of RC members and frames.
