  • A damage imposed on an unmanned aerial vehicle changes the flight dynamic characteristics, and makes difficult for a conventional controller based on undamaged dynamics to stabilize the vehicle with damage. This paper presents a neural network based adaptive control method that guarantees stable control performance for an unmanned aerial vehicle even with damage on the main wing. Additionally, Pseudo Control Hedging (PCH) is combined to prevent control performance degradation by actuator characteristics. Asymmetric dynamic equations for an aircraft are chosen to describe motions of a vehicle with damage. Aerodynamic data from wind tunnel test for an undamaged model and a damaged model are used for numerical validation of the proposed control method. The numerical simulation has shown that the proposed control method has robust control performance in the presence of wing damage.

  • In this paper, we propose a new adaptive stereo object tracking system that can be used when the back ground image is complex and the cameras are not fixed . In this method, we used the Block Matching Algorithm to separate the tracking object form the background image and then the optical JTC system is used to obtain the convergence-controlling and pa/tilt-controlling values fro the left and right cameras. the experimental results are found to track the object robustly & adaptively for the object tracking in various background images, and the possibility of real-time implementation of the proposed system by using the optical JTC is also suggested.

  • This paper propose how to track the position of the observer to control the viewing zone using an adaptive parallax barrier. The pose is estimated using a Constrained Local Model based on the shape model and Landmark for robust eye-distance measurement in the face pose. Camera's correlation converts distance and horizontal location to centimeter. The pixel pitch of the adaptive parallax barrier is adjusted according to the position of the observer's eyes, and the barrier is moved to adjust the viewing area. This paper propose a method for tracking the observer in the range of 60cm to 490cm, and measure the error, measurable range, and fps according to the resolution of the camera image. As a result, the observer can be measured within the absolute error range of 3.1642cm on average, and it was able to measure about 278cm at 320×240, about 488cm at 640×480, and about 493cm at 1280×960 depending on the resolution of the image.

  • Generally, loop filter based scalar tracking loops (LF-STL) have been used for global positioning system (GPS) signal tracking algorithm. This paper introduces the accuracy and robustness of linear-quadratic-Gaussian based vector tracking loop (LQG-VTL) algorithm instead of LF-STL. To verify the accuracy of LQG-VTL, we confirm that the measurements estimation errors of the LQG based scalar tracking loops (LQG-STL) are improved by more than 60 % compared to LF-STL. Also, when LQG-VTL is used, measurements estimation errors decrease compared to LQG-STL, and position/velocity estimation errors also decrease as the number of satellites increases. To verify the robustness of LQG-VTL, we confirm that LQG-VTL can estimate position/velocity and measurements successively compared to LF-STL in temporal signal attenuation of 30 dB-Hz during 4 seconds.

  • In brushless DC motor, current flow should be controlled such that only properly selected 2 out of 3 phases carry current depending on the position of rotor. In order to detect position of rotor, hole sensor, encoder, optical position-detecting sensor, and magnetic position-detecting sensor are frequently employed. These sensors not only often cause malfunction in low and high temperature but they also have disadvantage of increasing cost and size of an motor system. To reduce the cost and size and to increase the robustness of the motor system, recently researches on sensorless motor dirve are very active. This paper proposes a novel unipolar PWM switching method that can improve the control problem caused by the difficulty of detecting zero crossing point at high revolution speed by minimizing the switching noise while increasing the lifespan of the drive system.

  • This paper presents a vision based walking robot control system using hand shape recognition. To recognize hand shapes, the accurate hand boundary needs to be tracked in image obtained from moving camera. For this, we use an active contour model-based tracking approach with mean shift which reduces dependency of the active contour model to location of initial curve. The proposed system is composed of four modules: a hand detector, a hand tracker, a hand shape recognizer and a robot controller. The hand detector detects a skin color region, which has a specific shape, as hand in an image. Then, the hand tracking is performed using an active contour model with mean shift. Thereafter the hand shape recognition is performed using Hue moments. To assess the validity of the proposed system we tested the proposed system to a walking robot, RCB-1. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • A high speed context-free marker-controlled and minima imposition-free watershed transform is proposed for efficient multi-object detection and segmentation from a complex background. The context-free markers are extracted from a complex backgrounded multi-object image using a noise tolerant attention operator. These make marker-controlled watershed possible for the over-segmentation reduction without region merging. The proposed method presents a marker-constrained labeling that can speed up the segmentation of a marker-controlled watershed transform by eliminating the necessity of the minima imposition. Simulation results show that the proposed method can efficiently detects and segments multiple objects from a complex background while reducing over- segmentation and the computation time.

  • This paper presents vision-based 3D facial expression animation technique and system which provide the robust 3D head pose estimation and real-time facial expression control. Many researches of 3D face animation have been done for the facial expression control itself rather than focusing on 3D head motion tracking. However, the head motion tracking is one of critical issues to be solved for developing realistic facial animation. In this research, we developed an integrated animation system that includes 3D head motion tracking and facial expression control at the same time. The proposed system consists of three major phases: face detection, 3D head motion tracking, and facial expression control. For face detection, with the non-parametric HT skin color model and template matching, we can detect the facial region efficiently from video frame. For 3D head motion tracking, we exploit the cylindrical head model that is projected to the initial head motion template. Given an initial reference template of the face image and the corresponding head motion, the cylindrical head model is created and the foil head motion is traced based on the optical flow method. For the facial expression cloning we utilize the feature-based method, The major facial feature points are detected by the geometry of information of the face with template matching and traced by optical flow. Since the locations of varying feature points are composed of head motion and facial expression information, the animation parameters which describe the variation of the facial features are acquired from geometrically transformed frontal head pose image. Finally, the facial expression cloning is done by two fitting process. The control points of the 3D model are varied applying the animation parameters to the face model, and the non-feature points around the control points are changed by use of Radial Basis Function(RBF). From the experiment, we can prove that the developed vision-based animation system can create realistic facial animation with robust head pose estimation and facial variation from input video image.

  • Robot manipulators constituing multi-robot system must exert the desired motion force on an object to preserve tghe fine motion of it. The forces exerte on an object by the end-effectors of multi-inducing force and the internal force. Here, motion-inducing force effects the motion of an object, but internal force as lies in the null space of an object coordinate can't effect it. The motion of an object can't track exactly the desired motion by the effect of an object, but internal force as lies in the null space of the effect of internal force component, therefore internal force component must be considered. In this paper, first, under assumption that we can estimate exactly the parameter of dynamics, we constitute paper, first, under assumption that we can estimate exactly the parameter of dynamics, we constitute the controller concerning internal force. And we obtain the internal force as projecting force sensor readings onto the space spanned by null basis set of jacobian matrix. Using the resolved acceleration control method and the fact that internal force lies in the null space of jacobian matrix, we construct the robust control law to preserve the robustness with respect to the uncertainty of mainpulator parameters.

  • In wireless sensor networks, the selective wakeup scheme is one of the energy saving mechanisms, that is used for an object detecting or tracking. Recently, many protocols are proposed using the selective wakeup scheme for the continuous objects tracking such as forest fires and poison gas. They predict the future shape of continuous objects and activate only sensors in the predicted boundary area of the objects. It works correctly in a uniformly deployed wireless sensor networks. However, it cannot be directly applied to a randomly deployed sensor networks with voids. When the predicted area is in the void area, the activation message cannot reach and the predicted area cannot be activated at the right time. It leads to many detection errors for continuous object. Moreover, if a sensor is once foiled in a activation control then the next activation control might be continuously failed. The detection errors can be result in serious harm to people. In this paper, we propose a chaining selective wakeup scheme for robust continuous object tracking in wireless sensor networks. In our protocol, we collect the information of a void area during the network configuration time; if the next boundary area is in the void area, we activate the chained area surrounding the void area with activation control message.
