  • Despite the huge potential of the practical application of emotion recognition technologies, the enhancement of the technologies still remains a challenge mainly due to the difficulty of recognizing emotion. Although not perfect, human emotions can be recognized through human images and sounds. Emotion recognition technologies have been researched by extensive studies that include image-based recognition studies, sound-based studies, and both image and sound-based studies. Studies on emotion recognition through facial expression detection are especially effective as emotions are primarily expressed in human face. However, differences in user environment and their familiarity with the technologies may cause significant disparities and errors. In order to enhance the accuracy of real-time emotion recognition, it is crucial to note a mechanism of understanding and analyzing users' personality traits that contribute to the improvement of emotion recognition. This study focuses on analyzing users' personality traits and its application in the emotion recognition system to reduce errors in emotion recognition through facial expression detection and improve the accuracy of the results. In particular, the study offers a practical solution to users with subtle facial expressions or low degree of emotion expression by providing an enhanced emotion recognition function.

  • Recent examples of abuse by black consumers (including air travellers) against emotional laborers have become a serious social issue in Korea in that they are likely to violate human rights of those laborers. Emotional labor is a form of emotion regulation that creates a publicly visible facial and bodily display, and also emotional management within the workforce that creates a situation in which the emotion management by workers can be exchanged in the marketplace. Example professions that require emotional labor are: nurses, doctors, waiting staff, and television actors. However, as the economy moves from a manufacturing to a service-based economy, many more workers in a variety of occupational fields are expected to manage their emotions according to employer demands when compared to the past. One of symptoms deriving from emotional labor is smile mask syndrome abbreviated SMS, which is a psychological disorder proposed by professor Makoto Natsume where subjects develop depression and physical illness as a result of prolonged, unnatural smiling. And higher degree of using emotion regulation on the job is related to higher levels of employees' emotional exhaustion, and lower levels of employees' job satisfaction. In most part, emotional laborers are more abused and hurt by so called black consumers who are raising complaints relating to products and services purchased against service providers for the purpose of maliciously getting compensation. Against this background, the Korean Government abolished "the Consumer Protection Act" and instead promulgated "the Basic Consumer Act" in September 2006 which stipulates that consumers are expected to have protection as well as responsibility and duty. The Aviation Security Act cites the examples of prohibited behaviors (unruly passengers) while they are travelling. In addition, human rights of emotional laborers could be more protected by the enhancement of etiquettes and cavalry and improvement of culture and working environment.

Data were collected from 215 dental hygienists working at hospitals and dental clinics through self-administered questionnaire, and analyzed by statistical analysis using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows: the higher the educational level of dental hygienists, and the bigger the size of dental institutions they work, and the lower the monthly income of dental hygienists, the higher the level of emotional labor of dental hygienists. Burnout was influenced on emotional labor and turnover intention. Emotion labor and turnover intention were influenced on burnout. Tenure under 5 years, five-day workweek (non), emotional burnout were found to have significant effects on the turnover intention. Dental hygienists were doing relatively high emotional labor, and it influences his burnout experience and turnover intention. It is needed to make the workplace better environment which can secure appropriate work load and rewards, and education programs etc.

  • We surveyed the emotional images of three kinds of scientific technologies in people's mind and the perception of technologies in terms of their risks and benefits. The contents of the image and their image values were used to estimate the affects on each technology. As an affect heuristic hypothesis predicted, people perceived the technology more beneficial or riskier depending on their overall affect. In other words, those who have positive affect on the technology Perceived less risky and more beneficial than those who have negative affect. On the other hand, those who have negative affect on the technology perceived riskier and less beneficial than those who have positive affect. We also found negative relationship between the perceived risk and perceived benefit of each technology. The implications of our findings that suggest affective heuristic were discussed in terms of the measurements of affect and the necessity of communication of scientific technologies with the public.

  • Mood classification of blog text is an interesting problem, with a potential for a variety of services involving the Web. This paper introduces an approach to mood classification enhancements through the normalized negation n-grams which contain mood clues and corpus-specific term weighting(CSTW). We've done experiments on blog texts with two different classification methods: Enhanced Mood Flow Analysis(EMFA) and Support Vector Machine based Mood Classification(SVMMC). It proves that the normalized negation n-gram method is quite effective in dealing with negations and gave gradual improvements in mood classification with EMF A. From the selection of CSTW, we noticed that the appropriate weighting scheme is important for supporting adequate levels of mood classification performance because it outperforms the result of TF*IDF and TF.

  • A dialogue system includes various morphological analyses for recognizing a user's intention from the user's utterances. However, a user can represent various intentions via emotional states in addition to morphological expressions. Thus, a user's emotion recognition can analyze a user's intention in various manners. This paper presents a new method to automatically recognize a user's emotion for a dialogue system. For general emotions, we define nine categories using a psychological approach. For an optimal feature set, we organize a combination of sentential, a priori, and context features. Then, we employ a support vector machine (SVM) that has been widely used in various learning tasks to automatically classify a user's emotions. The experiment results show that our method has a 62.8% F-measure, 15% higher than the reference system.

  • Due to paradigm shift in administration, the field of police administration, like its civilian counterpart, is spending effort to improve customer-oriented civil complaint service system, and this is leading to a negative factor in service providers, emotional labor, among police officers. This study examines amount of emotional labor of maritime police officers, and verify the effects of emotional labor on exhaustion. Results show maritime police officers experience about the same amount of emotional labor as other public workers, and emotional labor has effects on work exhaustion. In other words, perception of incongruity of emotion has positive effects on exhaustion on cynical attitude. Attention to emotional expression has negative effects on decrease of job effectiveness. As such, if the problem of emotional labor is neglected, it leads to exhaustion and can become a significant obstacle to performance due to negative organizational influence. Also, it can lead to serious physical and mental problems on the individual level. Therefore, policy implementation to prevent this problem is necessary.
