  • In this paper is a descriptive survey research to compare correlations among the job stress, job satisfaction, emotional labor, and turnover intention of nurses between the comprehensive nursing care service and general wards. The subjects include total 185 nurses that consisted of 93 nurses at the comprehensive nursing care service ward and 92 at the General Ward. Results of this study are as follows; The study analyzed correlations among the job stress, job satisfaction, emotional labor, and turnover intention of nurses at the comprehensive nursing care service and general wards and found that both the groups showed significant positive correlations between job stress and emotional labor, between job stress and turnover intention, and between emotional labor and turnover intention, which indicates that higher job stress led to higher emotional labor and that higher job stress and emotional labor led to higher turnover intention. These findings raise a need to increase the manpower standard, offer proper rewards, and improve the work environment and treatment for nurses, who play the pivotal roles at the hospital organization, to solve their increased job stress and emotional labor issues and ultimately ensure the successful expansion of the comprehensive nursing care service system. There should be multifaceted efforts to reduce the turnover of skilled nurses that are capable of providing quality nursing service.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the predictors of turnover intention among nurses working in general hospitals. The subjects were 181 nurses who worked in two general hospitals in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Data were collected from June to November 2018, and analyzed by descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression analysis, using SPSS/WIN 21.0. The main findings of this were as follows. The mean scores for the nursing work environment, professional self-concept, job satisfaction and turnover intention were $2.43{\pm}0.38$, $2.60{\pm}0.25$, $2.59{\pm}0.29$ and $3.43{\pm}0.72$ points. Turnover intention is negatively correlated with the nursing work environment (r=-.43, p<.001) and job satisfaction (r=-.46, p<.001). Factors influencing turnover intention were job satisfaction(${\beta}=-.47$, p<.001), nursing work environment(${\beta}=.32$, p<.001), professional self-concept(${\beta}=.20$, p<.001), and total length of a clinical career(${\beta}=-.15$, p<.05) showing an explanatory power of 38%. Since various variables influence the turnover intention of nurses, it is necessary to improve the nursing environment in the medical field rather than the strategy to increase the number of simple nurses. In the university, education for establishing through introductory nursing specialty is needed.

  • In this study, we examine the effects of five needs satisfaction on job satisfaction and turnover intention based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs for clinical nurses. Also, this was a convergence study that confirmed the mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between need satisfaction and turnover intention. The participants were 239 clinical nurses at a general hospital located in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed for mediating effects using hierarchical regression analysis and PROCESS Macro (Model 4). Physiological and safety needs did not have a significant effect on job satisfaction while belongingness, esteem, and self-actualizations need had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction. On the other hand, physiological and esteem needs had a significant negative effect on turnover intention. In addition, the mediating effect of job satisfaction was significant in the relationship between need satisfaction (physiological, safety, belongingness, and self-actualization needs) and turnover intention. We confirm that an increase in the satisfaction of the five needs of clinical nurses can reduce their turnover intention. Therefore, we suggest that it is necessary to effectively manage need satisfaction and job satisfaction in the clinical field.

The data were collected between August 3 and September 1, 2015. A total of 188 nurses working at university medical centers and general hospitals located at J city and D city were participated. The collected data were analyzed using frequency, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVAs, Pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression analysis. In turnover intention, there were significant differences in education, age, job preference of nurse, work period and position. Burnout showed significant effect in social intelligence and turnover intention. Social intlligence did not have control effect between turnover intention and job burnout. This findings suggested that to prevent the nurse's turnover intention, the education for social information, social skill and social awareness has to be programmed for the development of social intelligence.

As a result, there were no significant differences in the variables between comprehensive nursing care service ward nurses and general ward nurses. However, comprehensive nursing care service ward nurses had higher job satisfaction, lower job stress, lower burnout, and lower turnover intention than general ward nurses. There was a significant relationship between job stress (r=.39, p=<.001), burnout (r=.43, p=<.001), job satisfaction (r=-.66, p=<.001), and turnover intention. Comprehensive nursing care service ward nurses were more positive about their nursing work than general ward nurses. The findings of this study can be used as basic data for effective nursing resource management in a comprehensive nursing care service ward.

  • This study attempted to examine the structural characteristics of the social network of nursing units by dividing them into a job-related advice network and a friendship network, and to analyze the relationship between nurse organizational commitment and intent to leave. The subjects were 420 nurses working in 4 hospitals and 30 nursing units. Data were analyzed using UCINET 6.0, SPSS 20.0 and HLM 7.0. In job-related advice networks, degree centrality of head nurse contributed to organizational commitment. Network density contributed to intent to leave. In friendship networks, closeness centrality of head nurses and betweenness centrality of charge nurse contributed to organizational commitment. Density and betweenness centrality of charge nurses contributed to intent to leave. Accordingly, it is necessary to foster good relationships between nurses and to develop various types of strategies for building effective networks.
