Purpose : Hospice Care is considered as one of the most perfect solutions for the problems brought up as the number of chronically ill patients are increasing rapidly and most of social welfare oriented countries are seeking the quality of life. Our former studies(1996, 1997) were to find out the current status of the hospice care in Korea by surveying terminally ill patients and their family members as well as medical professionals. The former study was also to conduct the operation research by developing an information service system for training of hospice care teams and volunteers, and hospice patients management. The purpose of this study was that hospice information service system was tested by home visiting hospice care through visiting nurses. Methods : From October 1, 1997 to March 31, 1998, Twenty six terminal cancer patients were included in this study from Seoul National University Hospital and other hospital. Databases and homepage, hospice information service system were designed and developed for the information needed for the hospice care before this study by our research team and this services were available through the internet. Visiting nurses were trained about this system and they visited the patients with PC notebook and provided them hospice care with hospice information system. They collected physical, psychiatric, social data of the subjects at the first visit and during hospice care at home. Results : Sixteen subjects(61.5%) died during the study and the mean survival was 20.7 days. Anorexia(96.2%), immobility(88.5%) and pain(84.6%) were the major symptom in the 26 subjects, Altered nutrition(26.1%) and pain(12.4%) were the most frequent diagnoses in 226 nursing diagnoses of the subjects. Families understood and demanded the hospice care more than patients. And most patients and families didn't demand spiritual or social care. Conclusion : Through this demonstration study, it was found that we have to provide the information of pain management and nutritional support for patients by the nurses and visiting hospice nurse. The information service system needs to be upgraded with information and manpower of spiritual and social care according to the findings.

This study was carried out to grasp the job stress and intention to change their jobs of nurses at general hospitals by their socio-demographic, job-related and health-related behavior characteristics and especially to investigate their relationship to the job stress and intention to change their jobs. The subjects were 355 nurses working at three university hospitals located in Daejeon City, and data were collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from April 1 to May 31, 2012. As a results, the average point of the nurses' intention to change jobs by the causes for job stress was significantly higher in the boss group with low support than in that with high support while it was higher in colleague group with low support than in that with high support. To look into the correlation between the points of intention to change their jobs and the causes for job stress, their intention to change their jobs showed a significant negative correlation to the boss's support and colleagues' support while there was no significant relationship with job demands and job autonomy. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, drinking coffee, department, job satisfaction, the boss's support and colleagues' support were selected as significant related variables affecting the nurses' intention to change their jobs and these variables' descriptive power was 29.4%. Viewed from the above results, it is suggested that the nurses' job stress and intention to change their jobs has a significant relationship with various variables such as socio-demographic, health-related behavior and job-related characteristics. In addition, there were a significant positive correlation between the causes for the job stress cause and intention to change their jobs, and among the causes for the job stress, support by their boss or colleagues turned out to be those affecting their intention to change their jobs. Thus, it is considered that it is necessary to minimize the nurses' job stress and at the same time to seek for specific measures for preventing their turnover.
The purpose of this study is to identify factors affecting the stress of End-of-life care in long-term care hospitals and to identify perception and education requirement of End-of-life care. The subjects of this study were 163 nurses who had worked at seven long-term care hospitals in Gyeongsangnam-do for more than six months and had more than one end-of-life care experience. They agreed to participate in the study using structured questionnaires from May 27 to June 7, 2021. As a result of this study, the most influential factor for the terminal care stress of the nurses in the long-term care hospitals is the education needs of End-of-life care(β=.25, p=.001). The following factors have been identified death anxiety (β=.21, p=.005), satisfaction with the End-of-life care environment (β=.17, p=.017), and End-of-life care perception(β=-.15, p=.040). Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to meet the educational needs of the End-of-life care for the nurses in the long-term care hospitals in order to relieve their stress. For this, it is necessary to develop and apply educational programs for End-of-life care.

Purpose: This study's aim was to confirm the importance and performance of the clinical practice of nurses working in the general wards of a tertiary hospital and to analyze their educational needs. Methods: The study employed a descriptive research design, and a self-reported questionnaire was developed and used for nurses in a tertiary hospital. Data were collected from July 22 to July 29, 2022, analyzed by an independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA for the importance and performance of each clinical nursing practice according to general characteristics, and then a post hoc verification was performed by Scheffé's test. An Importance-Performance Analysis and Borich needs assessment model were used to analyze clinical nursing education needs. Results: Clinical nursing practice performance showed a significant difference according to length of total clinical career, time working in current department, and preceptor experience. According to the results of the Importance-Performance Analysis, neurological evaluation, and nursing intervention, artificial respirator and high-flow oxygen inhalation nursing, chemotherapy, emergency nursing, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were identified as belonging to the "concentrate here" quadrant. All these items ranked in the top 10 in the Borich needs assessment model. Conclusion: Based on these results, the current education system should be reviewed, and short and long term education strategies based on educational needs should be established to strengthen the competence of nurses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and analyze the effectiveness of an education program counseling manual (EPCM) for community-based visiting nurses. Methods: Seventy-eight of community-based visiting nurses was enrolled in this study. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the ${\chi}^2$-test, and the paired t-test in SPSS version 18.0. Results: Nurses had higher mean scores for counselor activity self-efficacy: skill self-efficacy, session management self-efficacy and counseling challenges self-efficacy, after EPCM than before EPCM. Significant differences were found after applying the EPCM. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the EPCM is effective at improving counselor self-efficacy of community-based visiting nurses.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine clinical nurses' perception and education needs for concepts related marketing. Methods: The subjects of this study were 340 nurses who were working in the 9 general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggido. The data were collected using structured questionnaire(Cronbach'${\alpha}$=.98) from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31. of 2005. For data analysis, the SPSS/PC program Version 12.0 was used. Results: The highest mean score of nurses' perception for concepts related marketing was client satisfaction and the lowest mean score was marketing mix. The highest mean score of nurses' education needs was client satisfaction and the lowest mean score was marketing mix. The correlation between subject's general characteristics and nurse's perception was showed in nurses' age, education, hospital size, clinical career, position. The correlation between subject's general characteristics and nurses' education needs was viewed in age, clinical career, position. Conclusion: These results can be used to develop for clinical nurses' marketing education course and plan for marketing strategies of nursing organization.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care among nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 97 nurses from D and C cities. Data were collected from September 6~26, 2019, with self-reported questionnaires including general characteristics, knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The correct rate of knowledge of ostomy care was 60.1%. In addition, performance confidence of ostomy care was low, while educational needs on ostomy care were high. The knowledge of ostomy care was identified as a factor influencing in educational needs on ostomy care (β=-0.69, p<.001). It explained 42.0% of the variation in educational needs on ostomy care. Conclusion: There are nursing needs about ostomy care for older cancer patients in long-term care hospitals. Thus educational programs of ostomy care that are suitable to apply to the long-term care hospitals are necessary to develop for enhancing nursing capacity.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the health service delivery level and educational needs by work experiences and types of public health center among the nurses who work as visiting health services workers at public health centers. Methods: Data collected from 484 nursing staff for 2 weeks, was analyzed using the SPSS program t-test, ANOVA, and Spearman Rank-Order Correlation. Nurses with more than 2 years experience were 79.1%; and 43.6% of the subjects worked within Gun type public health centers. Results: The health service performance frequency of metropolitan city type public health centers was significantly high in the areas of education, behavior pattern, chronic disease, pregnant women & infants, and multi-cultural family. The health service performance frequency of Gun type public health centers was significantly high in the areas of type of test, fundamental nursing, and basic rehabilitation. In addition, the correlation between the performance frequency and educational needs was positively correlated, and the subjects with greater educational needs performed more. Conclusion: Educational programs should be designed according to the types of public health centers rather than work experiences, especially in systematic training for frequently performed items after reviewing the practice precisely.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify differences between the degree of nursing need and nursing performance as perceived by caregivers of hospitalized children. Methods: Participants included 200 main caregivers from two pediatric hospitals where their children had been hospitalized for at least 2 days. Data were collected from October 30 to December 10, 2014. Results: The degree ($2.64{\pm}0.40$) of nursing performance perceived by caregivers with hospitalized children was found to be significantly lower than that ($3.39{\pm}0.21$) of nursing needs of caregivers. Of nursing needs, direct nursing had the highest score at 3.59, and nursing assessment, the lowest at 3.23. For nursing performance, nursing assessment had the highest score at 2.76, and education and counseling, the lowest at 2.35. Conclusion: These results suggest that performance of nursing activities by nurses caring for hospitalized children do not meet the nursing needs of the caregivers. Therefore it is necessary to develop nursing strategies to reduce the gap between nursing needs and nursing performance.

Purpose: This study was done to compare the perceived nursing needs as reported by admitted patients and nurses in a general hospital. Method: The participants were 194 patients and 183 nurses in a general hospital in Seoul. The instruments were constructed based on a prior study review and revised after a pilot study with 3 patients. The questionnaire for nursing needs included questions on physical, therapeutic, emotional, educational and socioeconomic domains. Data were collected between February 29 and March 26 for patients and between February 19 and 26, 2002 for nurses. The data were analyzed with frequencies, percentiles, means and t-test. Results: The results were as follow: 1. The total score for perceived nursing needs by nurses was higher than that reported by patients except for socioeconomic needs. 2. There were significant differences between patients and nurses only in the emotional domain (t=3.50, p=.001). 3. The highest score was for therapeutic needs and the next was for educational needs. 4. Relatively higher scored items were for comfort care, prevention of nosocomial infections, immediate treatment, monitoring health condition, kindness, and explanation of tests and treatments. Conclusion: Nurses generally understand patients' nursing needs but have to be more interested in patients' needs in order to prevent nosocomial infections, to provide care in a good relationship with the doctors and to encourage the patients.
