Professionalism of the Nurse: A Concept Analysis (간호사의 전문성에 대한 개념분석)

  • This study was aimed to clarify the concept of professionalism of the nurse. Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used. The main attributes of professionalism of the nurse were advanced nursing knowledge, excellent nursing skill, person-centered nursing care, ethicality, responsibility, peer cooperation, autonomy, and outstanding situational judgement, and problem solving. The antecedents were a long enough period of nursing education and experience, research activities, personal qualities, and self-directed training. The consequences were improvement of professional identity and low turnover rates of nurses; improvement of nursing satisfaction, health recovery and well-being for patients; improvement of nursing quality, revenue, and reputation for hospital; gaining social recognition and development of nursing profession; obtaining financial benefits in national health care for nation. The findings of the study provide clarification of the concept of professionalism of the nurse and lay the foundation to establish professionalism among nurses to deliver good nursing care.

A Phenomenological Study on Tae-um Experienced by Nurses in Hospital Organizations (병원조직에서 간호사가 경험한 태움에 관한 현상학적 연구)

  • This study is a qualitative study to understand the meaning and essential structure of the experiences of Tae-um (Workplace bullying) experienced in hospital organizations for nurses. The participants were interviewed by selecting 10 persons who agreed to participate in the research through SNS in the workplace with the cooperation of the hospital. The collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. As a result of the study, Tae-um in the hospital organization of clinical nurses was divided into 4 categories(Taking the terrible first step, A series of hardships that never end, Hang on to myself, Wings flight of for adaptation) and 16 It was derived from themes. In conclusion, it was confirmed that Tae-um, not only new nurses, but even nurses who have accumulated careers, are still in progress, so they are adapting to the difficult hospital organization. Therefore, if a psychological support program for nurses is introduced, it will contribute to solving the Tae-um problem and establishing an organizational culture where nurses are respected.

Relationships among Nursing Practice Environment and Turnover Intention of Hospital Nurses: The Mediating Effect of The Work-Life Balance (간호사의 간호근무환경과 이직의도 관계 : 워라벨(일과 삶의 균형)의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to test the mediating effect of WLB on the relationship between the nursing practice environment and turnover intention of nurses. Data were collected from October 5 to October 30, 2020 for 144 nurses for more than 6 months at three general hospitals located in A-do. Data analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and regression analysis. As a result of the study, WLB was partial mediating role in the relationship between the nursing practice environment and turnover intention. Therefore, in order to reduce the turnover rate of nurses, it is necessary to develop and apply programs along with organizational human resource management strategies to positively improve the nursing practice environment of nurses and to promoting WLB. Based on the results of this study, we intend to provide basic data to reduce the turnover rate of nurses by positively recognizing the nursing practice environment of nurses and improving WLB.

An Analysis of Research Trends Related to Burnout in Psychiatric Ward Nurses:2000-2021 (정신과 병동 간호사의 소진에 관한 연구 동향 분석:2000-2021)

  • This study investigates the last twenty two years of research trends in the burnout of psychiatric ward nurses and suggests guidance for future studies. Five domestic databases were used in the literature search, and fourteen articles that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. thirteen articles were descriptive, cross-sectional studies and one study was qulitative study. Among the quantitative study, the most used instrument to measure burnout of nurses working in psychiatric wards was the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The individual factors related to burnout in nurses in psychiatric wards were age, marital status, years of clinical experience psychiatric mental health nurse license status. monthly income, religious status and education related to psychiatry. The most related situational factor that affect burnout in psychiatric ward nurses was experience of violence. In future research, large-scale cross-sectional and longitudinal studies should be conducted, and based on this, intervention studies should be conducted on reducing the burnout of psychiatric ward nurses.

The Effects of Nursing Work Environment and Emotional Labor on Job Satisfaction of Nurses in Provincial Medical Centers (공공병원 간호사의 간호근무환경과 감정노동이 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Identifying the factors between nursing work environment and emotional labor to job satisfaction for nurses in public hospitals, 176 nurses who worked at six medical centers in Gyeonggi-do as study subjects were selected. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test, post-test Scheffe's test, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN program(23.0). In the results to identify the factors that influence the job satisfaction, the better the nursing work environment(β=.797, p=.000) and the lower the degree of emotional labor(β=-.089, p=.045), the higher the job satisfaction. Additionally, job satisfaction increased when nurses cared the fewer number of patients. To increase job satisfaction for nurses, the policy should be considered to care fewer patients per a nurse, improve work environment and decrease emotional labor.

Attitude Toward Mental Health Recovery, Meaning, Barriers and Facilitating Factors Among Nurses of National Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (국립법무병원 간호사의 정신건강 회복에 대한 태도와 지각된 회복의 의미, 장애요인 및 촉진 요인)

  • The aim of this study was identify national forensic psychiatric hospital nurses' attitudes, perceived meaning, facilitators and barriers to the recovery of mental health. A descriptive study design was used. The participants were 100 nurses working in a national forensic psychiatric hospital. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, scheffe-test using SPSS 26.0 WIN program. Also, content analysis was used for the responses described by the participants. The participants attitude toward recovery from mental health was positive(3.90±0.41), attitude showed significant differences in certification of psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner(t=-2.06, p= 042), certification of addiction nurses(t=-2.36, p= 020). The meaning of recovery that participants perceived were symptom mitigation(42.0%), barriers were family indifference and prejudice(31.0%), facilitators were medication, psychiatric rehabilitation program and therapeutic interviews(33.0%). It is necessary to provide education to improve nurses' understand to mental health recovery, organizational efforts are needed to establish a family support system and therapeutic environments for the recovery of mentally disordered offenders.

The Importance and Satisfaction of Intensive Care Unit Health Care Providers with Intensive Care Unit Clinical Nurse Expert's Role (중환자실 전담간호사 역할에 대한 중환자실 의료인의 중요도와 만족도)

  • This study was aimed to identify importance and satisfaction of intensive care unit health care providers for Intensive Care Unit Clinical Nurse Expert (ICU CNE) roles. A questionnaire survey was performed with 138 intensive care unit health care providers between May 3 to 29, 2021. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. t-test and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). There were statistically significant differences in importance(t=2.33, p=.024) and satisfaction(t=5.43, p<.001) between physicians and nurses. The importance and satisfaction of intensive care unit health care providers were ranked in the order of advanced clinical practice, professional activity, coordination and cooperation, education and counseling and research. In the 'concentrate' area, it was found that 'Professional activity' and 'Education' should be improved. A strategy is needed to strengthen the expertise of ICU CNE and to enhance the competency in areas that need improvement.

A Concet Analysis of Psychiatric Nurse's Compassionate Communication Competence: Hybrid Model (혼종모형을 이용한 정신 간호사의 공감적 의사소통역량 개념분석)

  • This study was analyzed using a mixed methods approach to clarify the concept of compassionate communication competencies of psychiatric nurses. In the theoretical phase, the literature published from 2000 to 2022 was collected and 38 articles were analyzed. For the fieldwork phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight psychiatric nurses from December 1 to December 28, 2022. In the final analysis phase, the dimensions and attributes of psychiatric nurses' compassionate communication competence were identified and conceptualized. Based on the attributes identified in the theoretical and fieldwork phases, the definition of psychiatric nurses' compassionate communication competence was synthesized into five dimensions and 12 attributes. Therefore, psychiatric nurses' compassionate communication competence refers to the skills and abilities of psychiatric nurses to use active listening and empathic skills for effective communication based on compassion and understanding of the target, to be sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of the target, to accurately convey what the target wants to express, to respect the target, and to empower the target.

Job Analysis for Role Identification of General Hospice Palliative Nurse (호스피스 완화 간호사 역할규명을 위한 직무분석)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the role of general hospice palliative nurse through job analysis (duties, task, and task elements). Methods: The sample consisted of 136 nurses or professors who were performing duties related to hospice care areas in Korea. A survey method was used, and the questionnaire included frequencies, criticality, and difficulties of task elements in job description by the DACUM method. Descriptive statistics were performed by using SPSS WIN 17.0. Results: The job description of general hospice palliative nurse was identified 8 duties, 36 tasks, and 137 task elements. As for the 8 duties, the average scores of frequency, criticality, and difficulty were 2.94, 3.66, and 2.80, respectively. The role of ‘pain assessment’ was the most important task element among frequency and criticality. The lowest score at the frequency and criticality were ‘manage public finance’ and ‘collect datum through diagnostic test & lab', respectively. Furthermore, the role of 'identify spiritual needs of patients and family' was the most difficult task, whereas the role of 'manage documents and information' was the least. Conclusion: In this study, we could recognize the reality of general hospice palliative nurse's performances. For general hospice palliative nurse, therefore, concrete practice guide lines of psychosocial and spiritual care, communication skills, and bereavement care with qualifying system are critically needed.

Perceptions of nurses as a profession in Korea (간호전문직에 대한 인식)

  • 연구목적 : 전문직으로서 간호사에 대한 인식을 집단별로 파악하고 이들에 대한 인식을 비교한다. 연구방법 : 설문지를 이용한 비교조사연구로서 조사대상은 간호사, 간호학교수, 의사, 약사, 간호조무사, 병원행정직원, 행정관료, 정당활동가, 일반시민 등을 포함한 총 584명이었으며, 설문지는 12개 하부항목으로 범주화된 36개 문항으로 구성되었다. 연구결과 : 간호사에 대한 인식은 의사가 가장 긍적적이었으며, 병원직원이 가장 부정적이었다. 모든 집단에서 가장 긍정적인 인식을 갖고 있는 항목은 '사회적 요구'였으며, 그 다음은 '직무기술', '사회적 인식' 등의 순으로 나타났다. 가장 부정적인 것은 '간호교육'이었고, 그 다음은 '간호조직체 활동', '직무환경' 순으로 나타났다. 결론 : 본 연구를 기초로 하여 간호사들은 다른 집단들을 대상으로 전문직으로서의 간호사에 대한 인식을 높이기 위한 전략을 마련하여야 한다.
