The Effectiveness of Clinical Practice Education using Checklist on Performance of Delirium Care for Nursing Students (간호학생 대상의 체크리스트를 활용한 임상실습교육이 섬망간호 수행에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of clinical practice education using delirium checklist for nursing students. The study was used pretest-posttest design with single group with 91 fourth year nursing students. The study measured the delirium knowledge, self-confidence and performance of delirium care using structured questionnaire from August 14 to September 30, 2017. The delirium education was composed of one hour lecture and clinical practice. Clinical practice was applied checklists of delirium assessment and prevention care. In result, significant improvements were found in delirium knowledge(t=-11.23, p<.001), self-confidence(t=-11.00, p<.001) and performance(t=-5.31, p<.001) of delirium care. Based results of this study, it was found that delirium education using checklist improved delirium knowledge, self-confidence and performance levels of delirium care for nursing students.

Effectiveness of a Mobile Wellness Program to Increase Physical Activity in Office Workers (사무직 근로자의 신체활동 증진을 위한 모바일 웰니스 프로그램의 효과 검증)

  • This study was aimed to develop a mobile wellness program, and then to examine the effectiveness of the program in office workers to improve their physical activity. A single group pre-test post-test design was used. A total of 26 office workers received a mobile wellness program using a wearable device during 12 weeks. Effectiveness of the intervention was measured at soon after a mobile wellness program. There were significant differences between pre-test and post-test on daily steps (t=-2.52, p=.018), competence (t=-2.12, p=.044), and wellness(t=-2.83, p=.009). In conclusion, the mobile wellness program using a wearable device is effective for office workers by improving daily steps and encouraging their competence and wellness.

The Effect of Virtual Reality Simulation Education on Nursing Process Competency (가상현실 시뮬레이션 교육이 간호과정 수행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was performed to identify the difference in nursing process competency, critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy after applying virtual reality simulation education. The data were collected from 31 nursing college students using URL from February to April 2021 and analyzed SPSS 22.0. The pretest and posttest result of each group showed statistically significant improvements in nursing process competency(t=-3.776, p=.001), critical thinking disposition(t=-3.608, p=.001) and self-efficacy(t=-3.580, p=.001). As a result of this study, it was found that virtual reality simulation education improve nursing process competency, critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy of nursing students. Therefore, virtual reality simulation education will be the basis for preparing effective clinical practice education strategies for nursing students. It is suggested to have follow-up studies on virtual reality simulation education and various scenarios should be developed.

  • Found pesticide-contaminated eggs in 2017, the situation became a hot issue in many countries in the world as well as Korea. In the context of the pesticide-contaminated egg, this study explored that preventive behavioral intention would be predicted by perceived susceptibility and severity from health belief model, trust in the government and evaluation of information from the government, and subjective knowledge. We found that preventive behavioral intention was explained by perceived severity (${\beta}=.262$, t=3.531, p<0.001), trust in the government (${\beta}=.25$, t=3.281, p<0.001), and evaluation of the information from the government (${\beta}=.226$, t=2.936, p<0.01) through stepwise multiple linear regression analysis. The findings imply the government would administer policy in terms of credibility, accuracy, and consistency for decreasing the public's sense of unease and panic when a similar incident occurs.

Empowerment on Clinical Nursing Skills Core Program (임상 시나리오 중심 핵심 간호기술 강화 프로그램의 효과)

  • Critical thinking includes creative thinking, open-mindedness, inquisitiveness. Critical Thinking Disposition was significantly higher in experimental group that was enhanced by the scenario-based learning contents than that of the control group(t=4.102, p<.001). Problem Solving process was significantly higher in experimental group that was enhanced by the scenario-based learning contents than that of the control group(t=5.082, p<.001). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in Clinical Competence(t=2.646, p=.009). But experimental group was significantly higher score than that of the control group score decreased. These results support that the implementation of a scenario-based learning contents need to be continued as an effective educational material but we need more research to establish how this can be effectively implemented in a students' practicum.

Estimation of Nutrients Reduction Rates to Prevent Eutrophication on the Hwaong Reservoir (화옹호의 부영양화 방지를 위한 영양염류 삭감률 산정)

  • In this study, the reduction rates of nutrients were suggested to prevent eutrophication on the Hwaong reservoir in the year of 2008 and 2012. With EPA's WASP6 model, future water quality were simulated. In 2008, T-N would be 1.36mg/L and T-P 0.100mg/L on average. ; In 2012, T-N 2.66mg/L and T-P 0.128mg/L. With all the water quality management plans that the government authorities are carrying out, these results indicate that the reservoir would be reach the eutrophic or hypertrophic state according to the Vollenweider's trophic states. Therefore, the Hwaong reservoir requires additional plans for nutrients management. Here, the target water quality to prevent eutrophication of the reservoir sets into mesotrophic state ; T-N 0.475mg/L and T-P 0.02mg/L.(median of Vollenweider index for mesotropphic state) The reduction rates of nutrients on Namyang and Eoeun streams were estimated with uniform treatment method to meet the goal. The results showed that nutrients from two streams should be reduced up to 78% in 2008, and 84% in 2012. Since the ratio of T-N/T-P would be higher than 16 at target years, T-N was not considered as the limiting factor and was not reduced.

A Study on the Relationship of Infection Control Performance in a Long Term Care Hospital Caregivers (일개 지역 요양병원 간병인의 감염관리수행도 관련성 연구)

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate infection management status of long term care hospitals and infection prevention knowledge of caregivers. This is descriptive study to investigate the factors affecting caregivers' infection control performance in long term care hospitals. The data collection period was from August, 2018, and a total of 197 caregivers from 8 long term care hospitals. The data analysis were done Win SPSS 20.0 with t-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Infection prevention knowledge was positively correlated with infection control performance (p=<.001). The factors influencing performance in a long term care hospital caregivers were over seventy years old (t=2.50, p=.013), eight-hour working time (t=-2.62, p=.010), nursing staffing First grades (t=2.48, p=.014), and infection prevention knowledge (t=2.96 p=.003), which explained 12.9% (F=6.70 p<.001). In summary, we recommend to develop infection education interventions to improve caregivers' infection control performance in long term care hospitals and to improve of the function in long term care hospitals.

The Effect of the Blended learning and Case- based learning on Learning strategies, Critical Thinking Disposition, Academic Self-Efficacy of Nursing Students (블렌디드러닝 융합 사례기반학습이 간호대학생의 학습전략, 비판적 사고성향 및 학업적 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study intends to test the effects of blended learning and case based learning on learning strategies, critical thinking disposition and academic self-efficacy for undergraduate nursing students. A one group pre-post design was applied to adult nursing of 23 nursing students. Data were collected between March 2 and April 30, 2021. Data were analyzed by using SPSS/WIN 23.0. The results showed that learning strategies(t=-2.43, p=.019) and sub-factor cognitive strategy (t=-2.22, p=.031), meta cognitive strategy(t=-2.59, p=.013) and resource management strategy (z=-2.46, p=.014) were significantly higher than levels before blended learning and case based learning. Critical thinking disposition(t=-1.14, p=.262) and academic self-efficacy(t=-.34, p=.734) were higher than levels before but was no significantly. In conclusion, It was confirmed that blended learning and case based learning is an effective educational program that improves learning strategies of nursing students. In the future, it is necessary to develop a program in which blended learning and case based learning can improve critical thinking disposition and academic self-efficacy, and to verify the effectiveness.

Study on Pediatric Nurses' Attitudes and Compliance with Hospital Infection Standard Precautions (아동병동 간호사의 병원감염 표준주의에 대한 인지도와 이행도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify pediatric nurses' attitudes to, and compliance with, standard precautions in the prevention of hospital infections by enhancing their practice of standard precautions. Methods: The participants were 206 nurses who worked in pediatric nursing departments of a general medical institution in Seoul. The questionnaire was a modification of Kim (2008) and consisted of 18 questions about hand washing, personal protective equipment, sharps, linen and patient care equipment. Collected data were processed using SPSS 15.0 WIN. Results: Mean scores for attitudes to standard precautions and for compliance with standard precautions were 4.43 (${\pm}0.83$) and 4.22 (${\pm}0.44$) respectively. This difference was statistically significant (t=3.368, p=.001). The nurses' compliance with standard precautions differed significantly according to the general characteristics of age (F=8.705, p<.001), total clinical experience (F=9.426, p<.001), current department experience (F=6.555, p<.001), and education experience (t=0.616, p<.043). There was a positive correlation between attitudes to, and compliance with, standard precautions (r=.156, p=.025). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that educational programs and policy on infection control and standard precautions for pediatric nurses are needed. Also these results should contribute to baseline data for establishing appropriate clinical policy on infection control.

Political Participation Based on the Learning Efficacy of Dental Hygiene Policy in Dental Hygiene Students

  • Background: To investigate political participation by dental hygiene students and analyze the differences therein based on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy. Methods: A total of 239 dental hygiene students who were expected to graduate responded to the survey. The data were collected online using a structured questionnaire consisting of 6 items on general characteristics, 10 on political participation, and 15 on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0. Political participation based on the learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy was analyzed using independent t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis (p<0.05). Results: Among the dental hygiene students, 60.7% voted in all three recent presidential, general, and local elections, and 14.2% did not. For political parties supported, 65.7% responded that they had "no supporting party," and 34.3% indicated that they had a "supporting party." In terms of the level of political participation of dental hygiene students (0~50 points), the average score was 25.8 points, with the average passive political participation (0~25 points) score at 15.6 points and the average active political participation (0~25 points) score at 10.2 points. With an increase in dental hygiene policy learning efficacy, both passive and active political participation showed higher scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: Dental hygiene students showed low political participation. The presence of a supporting party, higher voting participation, and higher learning efficacy of dental hygiene policy were associated with higher passive and active political participation. Therefore, to increase this population's interest in political participation, various opportunities for related learning need to be promoted and provided in academia, leading to the enhancement of their political capabilities. In this manner, dental hygienists should expand their capabilities in various roles such as advocates, policy makers, and leaders.
