  • For the development of a small-sized superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system we designed, fabricated and tested the model coil consisting five coils with different features, e.g. winding tensions, bore diameters and materials, cooling channels. The results show that even in the highly pre-stressed small coil A, about 70 % of the coils critical current are degraded. The quench current of the coils A, B and E with narrow cooling channels is two times as high as that of the coil C without them though they are similar except spacers. The test results also indicate that the usual training effect depends on the winding tensions of the coils but the quench characteristic does not change according to materials of a bobbin.

  • A job sequencing model is developed and its computer system is tested for processing cold-rolled coils in Tandem Cold Mills(TCM) at the Pohang Iron and Steel Company. Given coils waiting to be processed, this system generates a sequence of jobs satisfying operational constraints for the TCM process. We formulate the problem as a constraint satisfaction problem and employ the backtracking technique combined with looking ahead features in order to generate a feasible solution within a reasonable time. Our system is implemented in C language on 80486-based IBM PC. Some tests based on the real data show that our system is adequate with respect to search time and that it consistantly generates a good feasible solution.

  • To improve the accuracy of frost warning system for pear orchard in a complex terrain in Naju area, the daily minimum temperature forecasted by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) was interpolated using a regional climate model based on topoclimatic estimation and optimum scale interpolation from 2004 to 2005. Based on the validation experiments done for three pear orchards in the spring of 2004, the results showed a good agreement between the observed and predicted values, resulting in improved predictability compared to the forecast from Korea Meteorological Administration. The differences between the observed and the predicted temperatures were $-2.1{\sim}2.7^{\circ}C$ (on average $-0.4^{\circ}C$) in the valley, $-1.6{\sim}2.7^{\circ}C$ (on average $-0.4^{\circ}C$) in the riverside and $-1.1{\sim}3.5^{\circ}C$ (on average $0.6^{\circ}C$) in the hills. Notably, the errors have been reduced significantly for the valley and riverside areas that are more affected by the cold air drainage and more susceptible to frost damage than hills.

  • This paper presents a strategy to drive built in-type spindle induction motor which is used as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) in the industrial world. The direct vector control which is robust to the changed machine parameters in the high speed range is used in this motor control method. And electrical model of induction motor presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to motor parameter. Thus Gopinath model flux estimator which is the closed loop flux observer based on two models for the rotor flut estimation is used in this paper. Moreover this paper presents to drive the spindle motor in the high speed range by using the flux weakening control.

  • Deep learning (DL) models have been widely applied to AI applications such image recognition and language translation with big data. Recently, DL models have becomes larger and more complicated, and have merged together. For the accelerated training of a large-scale deep learning model, model parallelism that partitions the model parameters for non-shared parallel access and updates across multiple machines was provided by a few distributed deep learning frameworks. Model parallelism as a training acceleration method, however, is not as commonly used as data parallelism owing to the difficulty of efficient model parallelism. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of the state of the art in model parallelism by comparing the implementation technologies in several deep learning frameworks that support model parallelism, and suggests a future research directions for improving model parallelism technology.

  • The study of electric field analyses has been conducted on two kinds of bushings for 17.5kV $SF_6$ gas insulated recloser. In this paper, two model bushings and input conditions for the analyses are described in detail. The results of the electric field analyses are presented and compared with to find out the better design in two bushings. Finally some suggestions are given for improving the insulation characteristics of the bushings.

  • Using the continuous Hopfield network model as the basis to solve the general crisp and fuzzy constrained optimization problem is presented and examined. The model lies in its transformation to a parallel algorithm which distributes the work of numerical optimization to several simultaneously computing processors. The method is applied to different structural engineering design problems that demonstrate this usefulness, satisfaction or potential. The computing algorithm has been given and discussed for a designer who can program it without difficulty.
