Ring-opening Polymerization of L-Lactide with Silica Supported Titanium Alkoxide Catalysts

  • $TiCl(O-i-Pr)_3/SiO_2$ and $Ti(O-i-Pr)_4/SiO_2$ were prepared by immobilizing chlorotitanium (IV) isopropoxide ($TiCl(O-i-Pr)_3$) and titanium (IV) isopropoxide ($Ti(O-i-Pr)_4$), to pretreated silica. The effect of the polymerization reaction conditions on the catalytic activity and characteristics of the resulting PLA were investigated. The catalytic conversion, molecular weight and polydispersity index (PDI) of the PLA produced on the titanium alkoxide supported catalysts increased proportionally with the reaction temperature. When the PLA was synthesized in bulk polymerization, the PLA produced with the supported catalysts had higher molecular weight than those with homogeneous catalysts. The melting temperature of the polymer produced with silica supported alkoxide catalysts was approximately $170-180^{\circ}C$.

  • Food wastewater derived from three-stages methane fermentation system showed high concentrations of sCOD, T-N and $NH_{3}-N$. To treat the organic wastewater, the optimal operating conditions for high efficiency $UV/TiO_{2}$ photocotalytic system have been investigated. In the first process, wastewater was pre-treated with $FeCl_{3}. The optimum pH and concentration for coagulation were 4.0 and 2000 mg/L, respectively. Through this process, 52.6% of $COD_{cr}$ was removed. The second process was $UV/TiO_{2}$ photocatalytic reaction. The optimum conditions for the operation of $UV/TiO_{2}$ photocatalytic system developed in this lab have been studied. In this process, CODcr was removed from 2890 to 184 mg/L and T-N was removed from 2496 to 914 for 24 hours, respectively.

  • Fabrication and oxidants formation of 1 and 2 component metal oxide electrode, which is known to be so effective to destruct non-biodegradable organics in wastewater, were studied. Five electrode materials (Ru, Pt, Sn, Sb and Gd) were used for the 1 and 2 component electrode. The metal oxide electrode was prepared by coating the electrode material on the surface of the titanium mesh and then thermal oxidation at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The removed RhB per 2 min and unit W for one component electrode decreased in the following sequences: Ru/Ti>Sb/Ti>Pt/Ti>Gd/Ti>Sn/Ti. The concentration of oxidants generated in 1 and 2 component electrodes was in the order of: $ClO_2$> free Cl>$H_2O_2>O_3$. OH radical was not generated from in entire one and two component electrodes. RhB degradation rate and generated oxidants of the Ru-Sn=9:1 electrode was higher than that of the two component electrode. The exact relationship between the removal of RhB and the generated oxidants concentration was not obvious. However, it was assumed that electrode with high RhB decolorization had high oxidant concentration.

Morphology of Barium Titanyl Oxalate Produced by Homogeneous Precipitation from Acidic Solution of Dimethyl Oxalate (Dimethyl Oxalate에 의한 균일 침전법으로 생성된 Barium Titanyl Oxalate의 형태학적 연구)

  • Barium titanyl oxalate(BTO) was precipatated by utilizing the thermal decomposition of dimethyl oxalate in acidic aqueous solution having $BaCl_2$ and $TiCl_4$. Particle morphology of BTO was influeneced by the various experimental factors. i.e.. the faster rate to nucleation with higher temperature and the higher ratio of [DMO]/[$Ba^{2+}+Ti^{4+}$] was found to correspond to the faster rate of transformation of particle size distribution from unimodal to broad unimodal through bimodal. The BT powder obtained by calcination at $900^{\circ}C$ in air consists of larger particles than BT generated by general coprecipitation method and shows tetragonal symmetry. The stirring during reaction was also found to have much effect upon characteristics of BTO and BT.

  • Pure submicron $SrTiO_3$ powders had been synthesized with chemical wet process that $5N-NH_4OH$ solution was sprayed into the mixed solution of $SrTiO_3$, $TiCl_4$ and $H_2O_2$ with $N_2$ carrier gas. The characteristic properties of powders obtained from this experiment were as follows. The optimum synthesis condition in reaction bath was above PH 8.5 and under $25^{\circ}C$ The particle size of precipitated SrTiO(OH) powders dried at 6$0^{\circ}C$ was under 0.01${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and uniform. Amorphous precipitated complex powders emitted adsorbed water at 15$0^{\circ}C$ less that and crystalline $SrTiO_3$powders was produced from calcining the complex at 30$0^{\circ}C$. Sintered body of SrTiO3 fired at 133$0^{\circ}C$ showed that relative dielectric constant was 228 at 1MHZ and bulk density was 4.73g/$cm^3$.

  • Barium Titanate(BaTiO$_3$) nanoparticles were prepared at 22$0^{\circ}C$ through glycothermal process by using barium hydroxide and amorphous titanium hydrous gel as precursor and 1,4-butanediol and distilled water as solvent. It is demonstrated that the size of BaTiO$_3$ particles can be controlled by reaction conditions such as various content of 1,4-butanediol/distilled water volume ratio. This processing method can fabricate BaTiO$_3$ powders, which have a narrow distribution and exhibit good dispersion. The particle size of BaTiO$_3$ powders obtained by glycothermal process were about 50 nm to 200 nm on the condition that reaction temperature was 22$0^{\circ}C$ and holding time was 24 h.

Properties of ba-ferrite Particles Synthesized by Molten Salt Method (용융염법으로 합성한 Ba-ferrite 입자의 특성)

  • In order to synthesize Ba-ferrite particles by molten salt method KCl and NaCl were added to basic composition to 50% by weight. X was varied from 0.0 to 1.0 to control the magnetic properties in $BaFe_{12-2x}$/ $Co_{x}$ / $Ti_{x}$ / $O_{19}$ and 1 mol% of $SiO_2$was added to control the aspect ratio of hexagonal platelets. And the effects of reaction temperatures were examined by varying the temperature from 85$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$ with 5$0^{\circ}C$ intervals. Eutectic composition of NaCl and KCl lowered the crystallizing temperature of Ba-ferrite in molten salts than using KCl and NaCl separatly. The morphology of resulting Ba-ferrite particles was clearly hexagonal-shaped plates. $H_{c}$ and $M_{r}$ were decreased when F $e^{3+}$ was substitued with $Co^{2+}$ and $Ti^{4+}$ from x=0 to x=1.0 in $BaFe_{12-2x}$/ $Co_{x}$ / $Ti_{x}$ / $O_{19}$ . Adding 1mol% $SiO_2$in molten salt method increased the size but shortened c-axis of the hexagonal ferrites and this result is an opposite phenomenon compared with the result in solid-statge reaction.n.ion.n.

  • 3성분계 Ti-Si-N코팅은 $N_2$와 Ar 혼합가스 분위기하에서 Ti 소스는 아크 이온 플레이팅, Si 소스는 직류 마그네트론 스퍼터링 증착기법을 이용해 스테인리스 스틸 기판위에 합성되었다. Ti-Si-N 코팅에서 Si 함유량이 증가함에 따라 주상정 구조가 TiN 나노결정질을 $SiN_x$ 비정질이 둘러싸고 있는 독특한 나노복합체구조로 변화되었다. 상온 NaCl 3wt% 용액에서 Anodic Polarization measurement 법으로 측정된 결과에서 Si 함유량이 높아짐에 따라 나노복합체 구조로 인하여 더 우수한 내식성을 나타내었다.

  • Particle growth of BT-oxalate was investigated in aging with various additives such as glycerine, chloro-form and NaCl. Their effects on size and morphlogy of particle was examined. It can be known that particle size distributions of BT-oxalate precipitate varied with amounts of these additivies. With small amounts of these additives, particle growth of nonuniform distribution was occurred, but above 1 mole percent of those additives, uniform size distributions of about 0.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ could be obtain. There was little difference among the effects by the kinds of additives. From the decomposition of uniform BT-oxalate, BaTiO3 powders of about 0.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ could be obtained.
