The purpose of this study was to investigate weight control attempts and related factors among 209 middle school female students in Daejeon. Variables examined were body satisfaction, beliefs regarding weight control, body image, nutrition knowledge, nutritional attitudes, dietary behavior and dietary intake. A cross-sectional survey was employed, and data was analyzed using t-test and chi-square teat (at $\alpha$=0.05). The average height, weight, and body fat (%) of subjects were 160.2cm, 52.4kg, and 25.9%, respectively. Those who attempted weight control were 61.7% of the samples, suggesting that weight control was quite popular among adolescents. Students in the weight control attempt group were more satisfied with their body size (p<0.001), and showed more distorted body image than those in the no weight control attempt group (p<0.001). Most of beliefs regarding weight control were also different in the two groups. The attempt group believed more strongly in the advantages of weight control, and believed less strongly in the harmful effects or difficulties associated with weight control. Although there were no differences in nutrition knowledge in the two groups, nutritional attitudes were slightly more favorable in the attempt group (p<0.01). In contrast, eating behaviors, such as those related to caloric intake (p<0.001), body image (p<0.001), and specific situations (p<0.01) were more desirable in the no-attempt group than in the attempt group. In addition, dietary intake of the attempt group was less adequate than that of the no-attempt group for nutrients such as iron (p<0.01), vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, and vitamin C(p<0.05). This study suggests that adolescents who attempt control weight have a more distorted body image and inadequate diet and showed more undesirable eating behaviors. Students should be taught and practice desirable methods of weight control. Educational programs should also include strategies for changing beliefs regarding weight control, as well as modifying diets and eating behaviors.
Numerous materials such as amalgam, IRM, SuperEBA, dessicated ZOE, and Ketac-Silver have been used as a root-end filling material or to repair furcation perforations. But so far no material has been found to satisfy all of the requirements of an ideal restorative material. Recently, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been suggested for use as a root end filling material and for the repair of furcation perforations. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of MTA on the proliferation of MC3T3/E1 osteoblastic cell, formation of bone nodule, alkaline phosphatase activity, and finally the tissue reaction of bone with those of amalgam, IRM, SuperEBA, dessicated ZOE, and Ketac-Silver. The following conclusions were drawn within the limits of the experimental results : 1. MTA showed a excellent proliferation of osteoblastic cell and Ketac-Silver showed moderate proliferation of osteoblastic cell. The rest of test materials showed no proliferation of osteoblastic cell. 2. Many of definite bone nodules were found in the MTA group. In contrast, Ketac-Silver group showed no definite bone formation but only showed mild sign of bone formation. 3. Alkaline phosphatase activity of Ketac-Silver and MTA showed similar results. But both of them showed higher activity than that of other materials (p<0.005). 4. The tissue reaction to implanted MTA in the calbarium of mouse was milder than that observed with other materials. The tissue reaction of dessicated ZOE showed the worst results among the test materials.

Purpose: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a relatively rare tumor that arises in glandular tissues of the head and neck region and sometimes has a protracted clinical course with perineural invasion and delayed onset of distant lung metastasis. Treatment failure of salivary ACC is most often associated with perineural and hematogenous tumor spread. However, very little has been known about the cellular and molecular mechanisms of perineural invasion and hematogenous distant metastasis of parotid ACC. This study was designed to develop an orthotopic tumor model of parotid adenoid cystic carcinoma in athymic nude mice. Experimental Design: A melanoma cell line was injected into the parotid gland of athymic mice to determine whether such implantation was technically feasible. A parotid ACC cell line was then injected into the parotid gland or the subcutaneous tissue of athymic mice at various concentrations of tumor cells, and the mice were thereafter followed for development of tumor nodule. The tumors were examined histopathologically for perineural invasion or regional or distant lung metastasis. We used an oral squmous cell carcinoma cell line as control. Results: Implantation of tumor(melanoma) cell suspension into the parotid gland of nude mice was technically feasible and resulted in the formation of parotid tumors. A parotid ACC cell line, ACC3 showed no significantly higher tumorigenicity, but showed significantly higher lung metastatic potential in the parotid gland than in the subcutis. In contrast, mucosal squmous cell carcinoma cell line doesn’t show significantly higher lung metastatic potential in the parotid gland than in the subcutis. The ACC tumor established in the parotid gland seemed to demonstrate perineural invasion of facial nerve, needs further study. Conclusion: An orthotopic tumor model of salivary ACC in athymic nude mice was successfully developed that closely recapitulates the clinical situations of human salivary ACC. This model should facilitate the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of tumorigenisis and metastasis of salivary ACC and aid in the development of targeted molecular therapies of salivary ACC.
This paper takes a half-through steel truss arch bridge as an example. A seismic analysis is conducted with nonlinear finite element method. Contrast models are established to discuss the effect of simplified method for main girder on the accuracy of the result. The influence of seismic wave direction and wave-passage on seismic behaviors are analysed as well as the superstructure and arch ring interaction which is mostly related with the supported bearings and wind resistant springs. In the end, the application of cable-sliding aseismic devices is discussed to put forward a layout principle. The main conclusions include: (1) The seismic response isn't too distinctive with the simplified method of main girder. Generally speaking, the grillage method is recommended. (2) Under seismic input from different directions, arch foot is usually the mostly dangerous section. (3) Vertical wave input and horizontal wave-passage greatly influence the seismic responses of arch ring, significantly increasing that of midspan. (4) The superstructure interaction has an obvious impact on the seismic performance. Half-through arch bridges with long spandrel columns fixed has a less response than those with short ones fixed. And a large stiffness of wind resistant spring makes the the seismic responses of arch ring larger. (5) A good isolation effectiveness for half-through arch bridge can be achieved by a reasonable arrangement of CSFABs.
This paper presents results and observations obtained from a study of the optical and thermal properties of alkali tellurite depending on the composition. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra showed evidence of chemical modification from $TeO_4$ trigonal bipyramids (tbp) to $TeO_3$ trigonal pyramids (tp) in tellurite glasses. The optical band gaps of the different glass samples calculated using Tauc's method were found to range from 3.5-3.8 eV. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and glass stability (${\Delta}T$) of alkali tellurite glasses were investigated, as $M_2O$ [M: Li, Na, K] amounted to 25 mol%, through the use of differential thermal analysis (DTA). The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) was measured in a thermo mechanical analysis (TMA) with a slow heating rate after the glass samples were annealed. The results confirm that the optical band gap of alkali tellurite glasses depends on the Te-O-Te structural relaxation related to the ratio of bridging/non bridging oxygen (BO/NBO). In contrast, the thermal properties are related to the ionic field strength of the Te-O-M and M-O-M bonds, and the Te-O-Te breakage depends on the ratio of BO/NBO.
The purpose of this retrospective study was to describe the characteristics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in dogs with meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology (MUE), and to evaluate the usefulness of meningeal enhancement. Thirty-two dogs were included in MUE group on the basis of clinical signs, MRI findings and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) results, and for comparison of the meningeal enhancement, twenty-three dogs with normal MRI, normal CSF and no clinical sign were included in the control group. The evaluated MRI findings included lesion site, lesion number, signal intensity of each MRI sequence, mass effect, perilesional edema, contrast enhancement, and meningeal enhancement. The MUE was most frequently associated with multiple lesions (50%) with perilesional edema (72%) in forebrain (66%) that were hyperintense (92%) in T2W and FLAIR images. Of the meningeal enhancement, there was no significant difference between the control group and the MUE groups in the pachymeningeal enhancement. However, leptomeningeal (or both) enhancement was found relatively high proportion in the MUE group than in the control group (P < 0.001, Odd ratio = 10.26), and based on this result, leptomeningeal (or both) enhancement is considered to be significant finding for indicating MUE.

Conventional electroexplosive devices (EED) commonly use a very small metal bridgewire to ignite explosive materials i.e. pyrotechnics, primary and secondary explosives. The use of semiconductor devices to replace “hot-wire” resistance heating elements in automotive safety systems pyrotechnic devices has been under development for several years. In a typical 1 amp/1 watt electroexplosive devices, ignition takes place a few milliseconds after a current pulse of at least 25 mJ is applied to the bridgewire. In contrast, as for a SCB devices, ignition takes place in a few tens of microseconds and only require approximately one-tenth the input energy of a conventional electroexplosive devices. Typically, when SCB device is driven by a short (20 $\mu\textrm{s}$), low energy pulse (less than 5 mJ), the SCB produces a hot plasma that ignites explosive materials. The advantages and disadvantages of this technology are strongly dependent upon the particular technology selected. To date, three distinct technologies have evolved, each of which utilizes a hot, silicon plasma as the pyrotechnic initiation element. These technologies are 1.) Heavily doped silicon as the resistive heating initiation mechanism, 2.) Tungsten enhanced silicon which utilizes a chemically vapor deposited layer of tungsten as the initiation element, and 3.) a junction diode, fabricated with standard CMOS processes, which creates the initial thermal environment by avalanche breakdown of the diode. This paper describes the three technologies, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each as they apply to electroexplosive devises, and recommends a methodology for selection of the best device for a particular system environment. The important parameters in this analysis are: All-Fire energy, All-Fire voltage, response time, ease of integration with other semiconductor devices, cost (overall system cost), and reliability. The potential for significant cost savings by integrating several safety functions into the initiator makes this technology worthy of attention by the safety system designer.

Purpose: This study was conducted to describe the knowledge and attitudes of nursing and non-nursing college students toward HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. Methods: A descriptive design was used for this study. The subjects were 123 nursing college students and 128 non-nursing college students. Self-administered questionnaires were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. Results: Nursing students showed a greater understanding and more favorable attitudes towards HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B than non-nursing college students. Most non-nursing college students learned about HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B from Mass Media. In contrast, many nursing college students learned about HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B from technical books and lecture. Students who learned from technical books and lecture showed a higher score for knowledge and more favorable attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrated that educational opportunities in school are crucial to enhancing knowledge and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. A structured education program using strategies to improve attitudes is necessary for college students.
Ectopic expression of $14-3-3{\zeta}$ has been found in various malignancies, including lung cancer, liver cancer, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), and so on. However, the effect of $14-3-3{\zeta}$ in the regulation of interactions between tumor cells and the immune system has not been previously reported. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether and how $14-3-3{\zeta}$ is implicated in tumor inflammation modulation and immune recognition evasion. In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell lines and cancer tissues, we found that $14-3-3{\zeta}$ is overexpressed. In OSCC cells, $14-3-3{\zeta}$ knockdown resulted in the up-regulated expression of inflammatory cytokines. In contrast, $14-3-3{\zeta}$ introduction attenuated cytokine expression in human normal keratinocytes and fibroblasts stimulated with interferon-${\gamma}$ (IFN-${\gamma}$) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Furthermore, supernatants from $14-3-3{\zeta}$ knockdown OSCC cells dramatically altered the response of peritoneal macrophages, dendritic cells and tumor-specific T cells. Interestingly, Stat3 was found to directly interact with $14-3-3{\zeta}$ and its disruption relieved the inhibition induced by $14-3-3{\zeta}$ in tumor inflammation. Taken together, our studies provide evidence that $14-3-3{\zeta}$ may regulate tumor inflammation and immune response through Stat3 signaling in OSCC.
The study purpose was to investigate psychosocial factors related to smoking among adolescent boys. The Theory of Planned Behavior provide the basis for the study. Twenty-five attitudinal beliefs, 9 normative beliefs and 20control beliefs were identified through questionnaire development. The data were analyzed using t-test and χ2-test. Thirty-three percent of 300 students were smokers. Most of the beliefs examined were significantly different between smokers(n=92) and nonsmokers(n=92). With respect to attitudinal beliefs, smokers responded less negatively on the items of bad health effects of smoking such as sore throat, headache, chest pain, risk of cancer and bad blood circulation(p<0.001), and decreased physical strength(p<0.05). Smokers believed less negatively on the items that smoking leads to bothering others, bad breath, yellow teeth and making them spend money(p<0.001). In contrast, smokers felt more positively on smoking as a means of stress management, relaxing, helping digestion(P<0.001). Smokers felt less pressure for not smoking from significant others. Especially mother, siblings, friends, girl friends, seniors of school were important sources of influence regarding subject's smoking. Smokers felt less confident in controlling the urge to smoke in several situations including; when they were with friends or asked to smoke by friends; after the meal, or drinking; when they were bored or stressed, upset, and when they felt unstable(p<0.001). Smokers also scored lower on specific skills to quit or control the urge to smoke as well as overall perceived control, compared to nonsmokers(p<0.001). These results suggest that interventions for adolescents incorporate diverse strategies to increase the perceived control over smoking in specific situations as well as overall perceived control, to help them realize and modify attitudinal beliefs, and to elicit support from significant others for not smoking.
