The Preparation and Characterization of BLT Thin Films by MOD Process (MOD법을 이용한 BLT박막의 제초 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Ferroelectric $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (BLT)thin films with various compositions(x=0.65, 0.70, 0.75) were prepared on Pt//Ti/SiO$_2$/Si(100) substrate by metal-organic deposition. The electrical and structural characteristics of BLT thin films were investigated to develop ferroelectric thin films for capacitor layers of FRAM. After spin coating, thin films were annealed at $650^{\circ}C$ for 1hour in oxygen atomosphere. Scanning electron micrographs showed uniform surfaces composed of rod-like grains. The $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (x=0.70) thin film capacitors with a Pt top electrode showed better ferroelectric properties than other films. At the applied voltage of 5V, the dielectric constant($\varepsilon$$_{r}$), dissipation factor(tan$\delta$),remanent polarization(2Pr), and coercive field(2Ec) of the $Bi_{4-x}$La$_{x}$Ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (x=0.70)thin films were about 272.54, 0.059, 32.4 $\mu$C/cm$^2$, 2Ec=119.9kV/cm. Also the capacitor did not show any significant fatigue up to 4.8$\times$10$^{10}$ read/write switching cycles.hing cycles.s.

  • TRISO(tri-isotropic)-coated fuel particle technology is utilized owing to its higher stability at a high temperature and Its efficient retention capability for fission products In the HTGR(high temperature gas-reeled reactor). The typical spherical TRISO fuel panicle with a diameter of about 1mm is composed of a nuclear fuel kernel and outer coating layers. The outer coating layers consist of a buffer PyC(pyrolytic carbon) layer, Inner PyC(1-PyC) layer, SiC layer, and outer PyC(O-PyC) layer Most of the Inspection Items for the TRTSO-coated fuel particle depend on destructive methods. The coating thickness of the TRISO fuel particle can be nondestructively measured by the X-ray radiography without generating radioactive wastel. In this study, the coaling thickness for the simulated TRISO-coated fuel particle with $ZrO_2$ kernel Instead of $%UO_2$ kernel was measured by using micro-focus X-ray radiography with micro-focus X-ray generator and flat panel detector The radiographic image was also enhanced by image processing technique to acquire clear boundary lines between coating layers. The coaling thickness wat effectively measured by applying the micro-focus X-ray radiography The inspection process for the TRISO-coated fuel particles will be improved by the developed micro-focus X-ray radiography and digital image processing technology.

  • 마그네슘 합금은 낮은 비중, 높은 비강도, 주조성 및 절삭가공성, 치수안정성, 내흠집성이 우수한 특성을 지니고 있는 경량금속으로써 우수한 주조성과 상온강도, 연신율을 나타낸다. 최근에는 마그네슘 합금을 사용한 IT 기기의 케이스 및 자동차 내, 외장 부품 등의 제품이 다양하게 출시되어지며 금속 질감의 감성 기능까지 적용시킨 전자 기기 제품에 대한 수요가 급증하고 있는 추세이다. 하지만 마그네슘 합금의 낮은 부식 저항성은 마그네슘 합금을 적용시킨 제품에 큰 단점으로 작용되고 있으며 이를 해결하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 본 연구에서는 플라즈마 전해산화법과 실리카 졸-겔 코팅법을 이용하여 마그네슘 합금의 내부식성을 향상시킴과 동시에 금속질감의 감성 기능을 구현하고자 하였다. 플라즈마 전해산화 공정으로 형성된 산화피막층과 $SiO_2$ 코팅으로 형성된 코팅층의 표면과 단면에 대해서는 FE-SEM(Field emission Scanning Electron Microscope)과 FE-TEM(Field emission Transmission Electron Microscope)으로써 확인하였고 전기화학적 특성 분석을 통한 동전위(Potentiodynamic polarization)와 EIS(Eletrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) 그리고 Salt spray등을 분석하였다.

Self-healing Anticorrosion Coatings for Gas Pipelines and Storage Tanks

  • In the present study, chitosan based self-healing anticorrosion coatings were prepared by layer by layer (lbl) addition of chitosan (Ch) and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) on mild carbon steel substrate. Chitosan coatings exhibited enhanced coating stability and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments by the application of a PVB top layer. Chitosan layer in the lbl coatings have been modified by using glutaraldehyde (Glu) and silica ($SiO_2$). Performance of different coatings was tested using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and immersion test. The best anticorrosion performance was observed in case of 10 % Ch_$SiO_2$_PVB coatings, which withstand immersion test over 25 days in 0.5 M salt solution without visible corrosion. 10 % Ch_$SiO_2$ coatings without the PVB top layer didn't last more than 3days. Application of PVB top layer sealed the defects in the chitosan pre-layer and improved its hydrophobic nature as well. Raman spectra and SEM of steel surfaces after corrosion study and removal of PVB_Ch/Glu_PVB coatings showed a passive layer of iron oxide, attributing to the self-healing nature of these coatings. Conducting particle like graphene reinforcement of chitosan in the lbl coatings enhanced corrosion resistance of chitosan coatings.

Characterization of Microstructure, Hardness and Oxidation Behavior of Carbon Steels Hot Dipped in Al and Al-1 at% Si Molten Baths

  • Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1 at% Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small amount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1 at% Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$, however, decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.

  • Pure $TiO_2$and 10 mol % Pb-doped $TiO_2(Pb_xTi_{1-x}O_2$(x = 0.1)) powder and thin films have been prepared by the sol-gel method. Titanium isopropoxide and ethanol are used for pure $TiO_2$, lead acetate trihydrate and titanium triisopropoxide monoacethylacetonate are used for Pb-doped $TiO_2$, respectively. Films are coated on p-type Si(100) wafer and ITO glass substrates by the sol-gel spin-coating method. The powder and multi-coated films are annealed at different temperature (400~$800^{\circ}C$) for phase formation and crystallization. TGA/DTA, XRD analysis, SEM and UV-visible transmission spectroscopy have been used to study the characteristics of the powder and films. XRD results show that the films are polycrystalline, anatase type and oriented predominantly to the A(101) plane. A slight shift in the d-spacing for the Pb-doped film indicates the incorporation of the Pb into $TiO_2$lattice. A shift of the absorption wavelength in the transmission spectrum towards longer wavelength has been observed about $Pb_xT_{1-x}O_2$(x = 0.1) thin film, which indicates a decrease in the bandgap of $TiO_2$upon Pb-doping.

An Innovative Solution for the Power Quality Problems in Induction Motor by Using Silica and Alumina Nano Fillers Mixed Enamel for the Coatings of the Windings

  • Power quality has always been a concern of power engineers. Certainly an argument can be successfully made that most parts of power engineering have the ultimate objective to improve power quality. AC motors were widely used in industrial and domestic applications. Generally, AC motors were of two types: Induction and Synchronous motors. In motor many parameters like different load cycling, switching, working in hot weather and unbalances creates harmonics which creates major reasons for temperature rise of the motors. Due to high peak value of voltage, harmonics can weaken insulation in cables, windings and capacitors and different electronic components. Higher value of harmonics increase the motor current and decrease the power factor which will reduce the life time of the motor and increase the overall rating of all electrical equipments. Harmonics reduction of all the motors in India will save more power. Coating of windings of the motor with nano fillers will reduce the amount of harmonics in the motor. Based on the previous project works, actions were taken to use the enamel filled with various nano fillers for the coating of the windings of the different AC motors. Ball mill method was used to convert the micro particles of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO into nano particles. SEM, TEM and XRD were used to augment the particle size of the powder. The synthesized nano powders were mixed with the enamel by using ultrasonic vibrator. Then the enamel mixed with the nano fillers was coated to the windings of the several AC motors. Harmonics were measured in terms of various indices like THD, VHD, CHD and DIN by using Harmonic analyzer. There are many other measures and indices to describe power quality, but none is applicable in all cases and in many instances, these indices may hide more than they show. Sometimes power quality indices were used as a basis of comparison and standardization. The efficiency of the motors was increased by 5 – 10 %. The thermal withstanding capacity of the motor was increased by 5º to 15º C. The harmonics of the motors were reduced by 10 – 50%.

Also the capacitor did not show any significant fatigue up to $8{\times}10^{10}$ read/write switching cycles at a frequency of 1MHz.

  • Lead-free bismuth-layered perovskite ferroelectric europium-substituted $Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}(BTO)$ thin films have been successfully deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by a sol-gel spin-coating process. $Bi(TMHD)_3,\;Eu(THMD)_3,\;Ti(OiPr)_4$ were used as the precursors, which were dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol. The thin films were annealed at various temperatures from $600^{\circ}\;to\;720^{\circ}C$ in oxygen ambient for 1 hr, which was followed by post-annealed for 1 hr after depositing a Pt electrode to enhance the electrical properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to analyze the crystallinity and surface morphology of layered perovskite phase, respectively. The remanent polarization value of the BET thin films annealed at $720^{\circ}C\;was\;25.95{\mu}C/cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 5 V.

  • Effect of electrolyte composition and concentration on PEO coating layer were investigated. Mg alloy, Surface of AZ31 and AZ91 were oxidized using PEO with different electrolyte system, Na-P and Na-Si. and applied voltage and concentration. We measured thickness, roughness, X-ray crystallographic analysis and breakdown voltage of the oxidized layer. When increasing concentration of electrolyte, the thickness of oxide layer also increased too. And roughness also increased as concentration of electrolyte increasing. Breakdown voltage of coated layer showed same behavior, the voltage goes high as increasing thickness of coating layer, as increasing concentration of electrolyte, and increasing applied voltage of PEO. $Mg_2SiO_4$ phase were observed as well as MgO.
