Fallen and living pine needles bearing ascocarps were collected throughout the country from February, 1987 to October, 1988 to identify and describe Lophodermium species associated with Lophodermium needle cast disease of pines in Korea. All of the observed characteristics of given species were compared with published descriptions of the Lophodermium species. As a result of this study, six Lophodermium species were identified and described. L. pinastri was previously recorded while the other five species, i.e., L. australe, L. durzlabrum, L. nitens, L. pini-excelsae and L. pini-pumilae, were unrecorded in Korea. One Lophodermium species has not been fully identified in this study, and tentatively named as L. sp-1. L. australe was observed on the needles of Pinus rigida, P. rigida ${\times}$ taeda and P. taeda, L. pini-excelsae on P. parviflora and P. strobus, L. nitens, L. durilabrum and L. pini-pumilae on P. koraiensis, L. sp-1 on P. thunbergii and L. pinastri on P. densiflora and P. taeda. L. sp-1 was collected from the diseased regions of 2-year-old needles of P. thunbergii and L. durilabrum from P. koraiensis, suggesting pathogenic nature of these fungi.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether vitamin B6(B6) deficiency affects fuel utilization and blood cholesterol profile with exercise-training. Twenty-four rats were fed a B6 deficient(-B6) diet or a control (+B6) diet for 5 weeks and either exercised(EX) or nonexercised (NE). EX rats were exercised on treadmill(10$^{\circ}$, 0.5-0.8km/h) for 20 minutes everyday. Glucose(GLU), glycogen (GLY), protein(PRO), trglyceride(TG), free fatty acid(FFA), total cholesterl(TC), HDL-cholesterol(HDL-C) and LDL-choleterol(LDL-C) were compared in plasma(P), liver(L) and skeletal muscle(M) of rats. There was a vitamin effect on the level of P-GLU, P-TG, M-TG, L-GLY, L-PRO and an exercise effect on the level of P-PRO, P-FFA, M-PRO, L-GLY, L-TG, P-TC, P-HDL-C, P-LDL-C. Compared to +B6 rats were lower and there were no differences in P-GLU, P-FFA, P-TG. M-GLY, L-TG, P-TC and P-HDL-C. In EX group, the level of P-TG was higher and M-PRO was lower in -B6 rats. There were no differences in M-GLY, L-TG, P-TC and P-HDL-C. These results suggest that a lowered intake of vitamin B6 may impair the adaptation of animals to fuel metabolism related to a decrease of fatty acid oxidation and attenuates the exercise-traning effect on blood lipid profile.

To increase the consumption of head-type kimchi cabbage leaves as fresh food ingredients, the physicochemical composition was investigated depending on leaf parts. Kimchi cabbage leaves were divided into three portions, such as outer (L1), mid (L2), and inner (L3), and their proximate compositions were determined along with dietary fiber, free sugar, organic acid, free amino acid, and mineral contents. Contents of moisture, crude protein, and crude fat were highest in L1, whereas contents of crude ash and carbohydrate were highest in L3 (P<0.05). Calories ranged 24.5~26.5 kcal/100 g with no significant difference among leaf parts, and dietary fiber content of L1 was highest (P<0.05). Fructose, glucose, and sucrose contents were highest in L3 (P<0.05). Citric acid, malic acid, and succinic acid were detected, and contents of citric acid and malic acid were highest in L3, in contrast, succinic acid was highest in L1 (P<0.05). Glutamic acid, constituting over 30% of the total free amino acid contents, was highest in L3, whereas ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid contents were highest in L1 (P<0.05). K, Na, Ca, and Mg were the major minerals in head-type kimchi cabbage, and their contents showed no significant differences (P<0.05). It can be proposed that marketing of head-type kimchi cabbage as a fresh-cut vegetable could be enhanced due to the different quality characteristics of its leaf parts.
Portulaca oleracea L. is known to have many biological benefits such as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-tumor. The objective of this study is to explore the neuroprotective effect of P. oleracea L. against glutamate-induced oxidative stress in mouse hippocampal HT22 cells. P. oleracea L. 70% ethanol extract and solvent fractions have the potent neroprotective effects on glutamate-induced nerotoxicity by induced the expression of heme oxygenase (HO)-1 in HT22 cells. Especially, ethyl acetate fraction showed higher protective effect. In HT22 cell, P. oleracea L. treatment with ERK inhibitor (PD98059) and c-JUN N-terminal kinase (JNK) inhibitor (SP600125) reduced P. oleracea L. ethyl acetate fraction induced HO-1 expression and P. oleracea L. ethyl acetate fraction also increased ERK and JNK phosphorylation. Furthermore, we found that treatment of P. oleracea L. caused the nuclear accumulation of Nrf2. In conclusion, the ethyl acetate fraction of 70% ethanol extract of P. oleracea L. significantly protect glutamate-induced oxidative damage by induction of HO-1 via Nrf2, ERK and JNK pathway in mouse hippocampal HT22. Taken together these finding suggest that P. oleracea L. ethyl acetate fraction is good source for taking active compounds and may be a potential therapeutic agent for brain disorder that induced by oxidative stress and neuronal damage.
An R$^{n}$ -geometry (P$^{n}$ , L) is a generalization of the Euclidean geometry on R$^{n}$ (see Def. 1.1). We can consider some topologies (see Def. 2.2) on the line set L such that the join operation V : P$^{n}$$\times$ P$^{n}$ \ $\Delta$ longrightarrow L is continuous. It is a notable fact that in the case n = 2 the introduced topologies on L are same and the join operation V : P$^2$$\times$ P$^2$ \ $\Delta$ longrightarrow L is continuous and open [10, 11]. It is a fundamental topological property of plane geometry, but in the cases n $\geq$ 3, it is no longer true. There are counter examples [2]. Hence, it is a fundamental problem to find suitable topologies on the line set L in an R$^{n}$ -geometry (P$^{n}$ , L) such that these topologies are compatible with the incidence structure of (P$^{n}$ , L). Therefore, we need to study the topologies of the line set L in an R$^{n}$ -geometry (P$^{n}$ , L). In this paper, the relations of such topologies on the line set L are studied.

We ran a feeding trial to determine optimal dietary protein and lipid levels for growth of juvenile long snout bullhead Leiocassis longirostris Gunther. Eight experimental diets (P20L7, P20L14, P30L7, P30L14, P40L7, P40L14, P50L7 and P50L14) were formulated to contain 20%, 30%, 40% or 50% protein combined with either 7% or 14% lipid. Three replicate groups of fish (mean mass: 3.9 g/fish) were fed one of the experimental diets ad libitum for 8 weeks. Survival of fish fed the P20L14 diet was lower than that of fish fed the P40L14, P50L7 and P50L14 diets. Growth of fish fed diets containing 7% lipid increased with increasing protein level (up to 50% protein); growth of fish fed diets containing 14% lipid increased with increasing protein level (up to 30% protein). The feed efficiency of fish fed a diet with 50% protein and 7% lipid was higher than that of other groups. Whole body moisture and lipid contents were affected by dietary lipid level but not by dietary protein level. The crude lipid contents of fish fed 14% lipid diets were higher than those fed 7% lipid diets across all protein levels (other than the 50% level). Thus, under our experimental conditions, an increase in dietary protein level improved growth and feed efficiency of fish; a diet containing 50% protein with 7% lipid was optimal for growth and effective feed utilization in juvenile long snout bullhead.
1. L-Tyrosine-${\alpha}$-ketoglutaric transaminase and p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid oxidase are distributed in Aspergillus oryzae. 2. L-Tyrosine oxidation in extracts of acetone powder, cell free extract and culture liquid of Aspergillus oryzae cultivated in the shaking culture are considerably accelerated by the addition of ${\alpha}$-ketoglutaric acid and then formation of glutamic acid was identified by chromatography method. 3. The roles of ${\alpha}$-ketoglutaric acid and pyridoxal phosphate have been shown to be an amino group acceptor in a transamination reaction. 4. Enzyme systems of an extracts of acetone powder and cell free extract also rapidly oxidized L-tyrosine and p-hydroxyphenlpyruvic acid to homogentisic acid. 5. The optimum pH for L-tyrosine-${\alpha}$-ketoglutaric acid transaminase was pH values of 6.0 and 6.5, and that for p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid oxidase was at pH values of 7.5.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of 0.5% calcium lactate(CaL) on the fermentation of dough and quality and shelf-life of bread. Calcium lactates(CaL-A and CaL-P) were prepared from ash of black snail which contained shell and tissue together(ABS) and powder of the snail(PSB). pH of dough with the CaLs were higher than that of the control md, volume of the dough, loaf volume of bread were lower than those of the control products. But the volumes were almost the same when the pH of the dough were adjusted to pH 5.5. Mean calcium contents of treated bread (39.36~49.70 mg/100 g) were higher than that of control products(13.43 mg/100 g). There was no difference in Hunter $L^{*}$, $a^{*}$, $b^{*}$ values between the control and the treated group. Hardness and gumminess of CaL-A treated bread were the highest, but springiness and cohesiveness were the lowest. All the attributes showed no difference in case of pH adjustment(pH 5.5). The smaller pore and larger air cell with rough surface were observed in the CaL treated bread by SEM analysis. Sensory scores of CaL treated bread showed relatively lower values than those of the control products, but the scores increased by pH adjustment. The shelf-life of bread with CaL-P and CaL-A at 2$0^{\circ}C$ were 4 and 3 days, respectively, while that of the control group 1 day.day.y.

This study evaluated the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder from halophyte plants added to noodles at ratios of 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% in order to examine its applicability as a substitute for salt. For quality characteristics of noodles with Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder, pH increased (p<0.05) and salinity decreased (p<0.01) with higher added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder content. Water absorption ratio decreased (p<0.01) while turbidity decreased (p<0.001) with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. However, volume expansion ratio increased with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder, but there was no significant difference. For chromaticity, L value and a value decreased (p<0.001) while b value increased (p<0.001) with greater addition of Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. For texture, hardness (p<0.001), gumminess (p<0.001), and cohesiveness (p<0.01) increased with greater amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder; however, there were no significant differences in adhesiveness, springiness, and chewiness according to the amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. In the sensory evaluation, for color, the score was 5.55 points when 1.5% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added, which was the best preference (p<0.001); for flavor, preference was best (5.64 points) when 2.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added; for taste, preference was best (5.36 points) (p<0.001) when 2.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added; for overall preference (overall quality) the score was 5.55 points when 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added, which was the best preference (p<0.001). For antioxidant activities, antioxidant activities including total phenol content, total flavonoid content, and DPPH free radical scavenging activity increased (p<0.001) with the amount of added Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder. As a result of the above research, preference was the highest and quality was excellent overall when 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb powder was added. Thus, addition of 1.0% Spergularia marina L. Griseb instead of salt would be desirable.
A variety of nuruks collected in different areas in Korea were explored to isolate sixty yeast strains that was able to grow at 44℃. MBY/L1569 strain, which showed the highest growth rate, was selected and identified as Pichia farinosa (Millerozyma farinosa). The isolated strain exhibited superior resistance to heat, acid, and alkali compared with those of P. farinosa KCTC27412 as a control strain. The specific growth rate of P. farinosa MBY/L1569 at 46℃ was 0.37 ± 0.05 h−1, and the highest specific growth rate of 0.50 ± 0.02 h−1 was obtained when it was grown at pH 7.0 and 37℃ with 50 g/l (w/v) glucose as the carbon source. Under optimum growth conditions, strain MBY/L1569 produced ethanol 19.66 ± 0.68 g/l from glucose 50 g/l, with an approximate yield of 40%. P. farinosa MBY/L1569 was deposited at the Korean Collection for Type Cultures as pichia farinosa KCTC27753.
